Larry the Lobster is a major character in the SpongeBob SquarePants franchise.
He is an anthropomorphic lobster whose is frequently seen hanging out at Goo Lagoon, where he works as a lifeguard. He is an acquaintance and oftentimes good friend of SpongeBob.
He is voiced by Doug Lawrence, who also voiced Sheldon J. Plankton from the same series.
His Evil Ranking[]
What Makes Him Heinous?[]
- In “Bubble Buddy,” he was among the many people who attempted to pop Bubble Buddy, who turned out to be sapient.
- In “Pet or Pests,” he attempted to eat five infant worms because they were “raw protein.” He would have succeeded in doing so had it not been for SpongeBob’s quick reaction.
- Nothing indicates the worms aren't sapient, as their mother was shown being able to order a bus after it was kicked out of SpongeBob’s house by Gary. Even if he didn't know they were sapient, eating baby animals alive is still a needlessly cruel way of killing them, especially when he is also himself an animal.
- In “Larry the Floor Manager,” he disturbs the patrons of the Krusty Krab after becoming the manager, putting a fast treadmill that they have to run on while ordering and forcing people to carry their orders with large weights. He later attacks SpongeBob, Squidward, and the customers of the Krusty Krab when they try to stop him from taking over the restaurant.
- In “Squid Plus One,” he viciously beats Squidward to a pulp after he mocks his affection for protein shakes.
- While he, like all SpongeBob characters, isn't taken seriously for most of the time, having many instances of being caught up in slapstick-based humor, his worst crime of attempted infanticide, while played for black comedy, is taken seriously by SpongeBob.
- While SpongeBob has a rather sizable heinous standard, Larry stands out, if barely, for trying to devour five infants, an act that is rather unique due to infanticide being a rare crime.
What Makes Him Inconsistent?[]
- He is generally a heroic character, being a lifeguard at Goo Lagoon known for saving people from drowning. Any act of villainy he has committed was simply a blip in characterization and not anything long-lasting.
- He has many people who he cares about or respects.
- While the two don't have many long-term interactions, he's on relatively good terms with SpongeBob, always greeting him cordially and showing respect to him on multiple instances. Examples of this include:
- In "SpongeGuard on Duty", he was impressed when he mistook SpongeBob as a lifeguard, and even after SpongeBob's cover was blown, he was still helpful enough to give SpongeBob and Patrick swimming lessons so that they wouldn't drown in the future.
- In "SpongeBob Meets the Strangler", he celebrated both SpongeBob's perfect job attendance and birthday. This also helped SpongeBob defeat the Tattletale Strangler and send him to prison.
- In “That's No Lady”, Larry congratulates him on getting an attractive girlfriend when he mistakes Patricia (who was really Patrick Star in disguise) as his romantic partner.
- In “Larry's Gym”, he tries to help SpongeBob get in shape. Later, when Larry himself becomes physically unfit, he bonds with a now muscular SpongeBob over their displeasure with their new lives before joining him for a hug, which squeezes out all the water inside of him and turns him back to water. He later thanks SpongeBob for helping him get back into shape with his personal training.
- In “Pet or Pests”, he doesn't show any ill will to SpongeBob after he knocks down to save the baby worms, instead complimenting him on his strength.
- In "SpongeBob's Big Birthday Blowout", he celebrated SpongeBob's birthday again.
- He's very good friends with Sandy and frequently spends time with her on Goo Lagoon. He also respects her enough to attend her birthday party in “Feral Friends” and helps throw a Texas-themed party for her in “Texas.”
- He has an imaginary friend named Jerky Pal who he cares about, bursting into tears when he's reminded of it by SpongeBob.
- Though the latter has mixed feelings on him, he seems to be on good terms with Patrick, as he was willing to help him pick out a gift for SpongeBob in “You Don't Know Sponge” and was willing to teach him and SpongeBob how to swim at the end of “SpongeGuard on Duty,”
- While the two don't have many long-term interactions, he's on relatively good terms with SpongeBob, always greeting him cordially and showing respect to him on multiple instances. Examples of this include:
- He's a scapegoat, as there are many instances where he is unfairly mistreated for little to no reason at all. Examples include “A Life in a Day,” where he is grievously injured to the point of needing a full-body cast due to trying to save SpongeBob and Patrick from hurting themselves on a sharp coral reef and in “Larry's Gym,” where he is rendered obese and fatigued from the paperwork he has to do to get his gym running, leading to him being mocked by Mr. Krabs.
