~ Sein to Ori. |
Kuro is the main antagonist of the 2015 video game Ori and the Blind Forest. She is a massive dark owl who was responsible for stealing Sein from the Spirit Tree and shrouding Nibel in darkness. She despises the light and attempts to murder every Spirit Guardian in Nibel to prevent it from being restored.
Her Evil Ranking[]
What Makes Her Heinous?[]
- After losing three of her four hatchlings to the light of the Spirit Tree, she became blinded with hatred and attacked the tree and its Spirit Guardians.
- She took away Sein, the source of the tree's light, which caused the forest of Nibel to wither and be consumed by the Decay. This caused the failures of the three main locations that maintain the land in Nibel, throwing the forest into disarray. These major locations were:
- The Ginso Tree, which caused the water in Nibel to become toxic and dangerous.
- The Forlorn Ruins, which caused most of the air circulation in the Valley of the Wind to stop and made the usually warm ruins freeze up. This also caused the deaths of the Gumon, a race of great inventors who lived in the ruins.
- Mount Horu, which caused warmth to stop circulating through Nibel, also contributing to the Forlorn Ruins freezing up.
- The Decay would indirectly cause the death of Naru, Ori's foster mother, due to the lack of food in the forest.
- Over many years, Kuro hunted down the remaining Spirit Guardians around Nibel, slaughtering almost all of them.
- The remaining Spirit Guardians would suffer in the Decay caused by Kuro's actions, and die as a result.
- After Ori escaped the Ginso Tree, Kuro attacked them and launched the spirit off the tree. She then tried to kill them while they were falling, but she was stopped by Gumo.
- When Ori and Sein reached Mount Horu's core and rekindled the Element of Warmth, Kuro attacked them once again and hunted them down, nearly killing them as a result.
- Overall, her theft of Sein kickstarted all of the events of the story.
What Makes Her Inconsistent?[]
- She has a genuinely tragic backstory where she lost three of her four hatchlings after they were killed by the Spirit Tree's light. As revenge, Kuro attacked the tree and its Spirit Guardians to protect her last remaining child, developing an intense hatred for the light.
- In the end, she redeems herself after witnessing Naru protecting Ori. Seeing Naru in distress reminded Kuro of her own grief, so she took Sein to the Spirit Tree to restore the balance between light and darkness in Nibel, sacrificing herself in the process.
