Krang is the secondary antagonist of the 1987 Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles cartoon series, a major antagonist in the 2009 animated television film Turtles Forever and a supporting antagonist of the 2012 Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles cartoon series.
He is an Utrom warlord from the alien Dimension X who seeks to conquer the Earth and his homeworld, originally belonging to the reañotu of the 2012 show before he was banished for his incompetency to the reality of the 1987. To do so, Krang often teams up with the Foot Clan's Shredder, resulting in the two and their forces often coming across the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, who always foil their plans.
In the 1987 show and the 2012 show, he was voiced by Pat Fraley. In Turtles Forever, he was voiced by Bradford Cameron.
His Evil Ranking[]
What Makes Him Heinous?[]
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (1987)[]
- Rules the Dimension X with an iron fist upon rising out as a powerful warlord who leads brutal campaigns, which likely claimed thousands of innocent lives.
- Turns on Berserko by blasting him out of Dimension X despite Berserko making the Technodrome for him. He then obliterates Berserko's homeworld just to prevent his family from plotting revenge against him for betraying Berserko, killing thousands in the process. The loss of his homeworld eventually turned Berserko into a villain, making Krang indirectly responsible for his villainy.
- While it is occasionally for justified reasons, Krang is frequently abusive to Shredder, degrading him and even physically beating him multiple times, even though Shredder usually turns the other cheek on these occasions. He is just as horrible to Rocksteady and Bebop, bluntly admitting that he loves it whenever they suffer, and he doesn't even approve of Shredder working with them in the first place.
- Krang eventually sends Shredder back to Earth but cut him from all of his resources, and denied him access to his foot soldiers and his technology or the aid of Bebop and Rocksteady, until he proves that he's worthy of it.
- He directly endangers the entire city by messing with its gravity, and while he kept telling Shredder he was going too far in doing likewise, it was only out of hypocrisy and pragmatism and he himself started overloading their evil machine with a maniacal grin when the turtles used a satellite to counter the effects of his and Shredder's destruction.
- Tries to conquer the Earth multiple times throughout the show through unique yet ruthless means, often coming to blows against the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles:
- Attempts to bring Rock soldiers to the planet so he and the Shredder could take over the world.
- Almost kills the Ninja Turtles with his new body and nearly summons his Dimension X troops to Earth before the Turtles use the Technodrome against him.
- He betrays Lord Dregg alongside Shredder even though he rescued them from Dimension X after their latest defeat at the hands of the Ninja Turtles. Whilst Dregg had planned to betray Shredder and Krang all along to steal their life energy, neither Shredder and Krang didn't know this, meaning it was still an ungrateful move from them.
Turtles Forever (2009)[]
- He and the Shredder are both responsible for the events of the film by, after arriving at the reality of the 2003 cartoon with the Technodrome, tracking down and defrosting the imprisoned Utrom Shredder from his exile, allowing the Utrom Shredder to start a scheme to wipe out the whole Multiverse in an attempt to finally get rid of all Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles in existence.
- Before the Utrom Shredder takes over the Technodrome, Krang and his Shredder consider him too insane and knock him out, with Krang expressing interest in dissecting the Shredder's Utrom counterpart alive (though as cruel as it sounds, it's not like the Utrom Shredder didn't deserve it for being an atrocious Pure Evil criminal).
- Though both Krang and the Shredder side with both the Ninja Turtles from their universe and with the 2003 cartoon's Turtles, Splinter and Karai, they only do so to save the Multiverse because if it were erased, they would all die. Following the Utrom Shredder's presumed final defeat at Turtle Prime (the original Mirage Comics universe), Krang and the Shredder go back to the Technodrome assuring that their temporal alliance is over.
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (2012)[]
- Attempts to bomb both the 2012 and 1987 dimensions, which will see them both annihilated.
- When the turtles deactivate both bombs, Krang had planted one on the Mirage dimension to destroy it entirely, which will cause a chain reaction that will destroy the 1987 and 2012 dimensions at once since the Mirage dimension was the original Turtle dimension where both realities sprung from.
- To show how bad it is, the moment Kraang Subprime, a Pure Evil villain, finds out about this plot, he immediately turns on Krang and beats him up, though it was only because he and his master, Kraang Prime, have been trying to mutate and conquer those dimensions for thousands of years and he was going to undo all of it just to destroy the Turtles.
- Teams up with the 1987 Shredder again after being sent back by his cousin to his exile universe and hires Bebop and Rocksteady to capture the 1987 Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles and then tries to destroy the 2012 cartoon's Earth with his Technodrome.
What Makes Him Inconsistent?[]
- He is too comedic, rarely being taken seriously despite being one of the most dangerous threats to two versions of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles and has several comedic moments such as awkwardly introducing himself to Michelangelo, whining that the Neutrinos encourage people to have fun, him and Shredder arguing like an old married couple every other episode (such as him hypocritically asking Shredder if he is "out of his skull"), his extremely awkward evil laugh, his fight against the 1987 Ninja Turtles in the 1987-2012 crossover episode, or the slapstick beating he receives from Kraang Subprime after showcasing his incompetence.
- Despite how much he mistreats the Shredder, they do occasionally show care for each other. In Season 10, Krang showed genuine concern for Shredder when he was threatened by Lord Dregg's men and later, Shredder donates some of his life energy to save a dying Krang.
- The episode, Shredderville shows a reality where the Shredder took over the world, and despite not sharing power with Krang, Shredder still allows Krang to live freely in relative luxury in the Technodrome. Whilst this was a dream, the fact that all the Turtles had it, implies that it was prophetic and further showcases that the two villains aren't willing to kill the other.
- He is sincerely affable to the Rock Soldiers, promising two of them medals once he gets hands for which to administer them, and in turn they sincerely respect him and are very concerned about what happened to his body.
- He is On & Off, as he does help the heroes to stop the Utrom Shredder from destroying the whole Multiverse in "Turtles Forever". Even if he may have just done so to save his own life, Krang didn't try to betray the heroes even once and assisted them as much as possible until they got rid of the Utrom Shredder, showing he has standards.
- It's also worth mentioning that he saved Michelangelo at one point.
- He also attempted to fight the Utrom Shredder.
Trivia[]
- In the 2012 cartoon, Krang is revealed to be Kraang Subprime's cousin, who banished him from their home reality to the one from the 1987 cartoon. However, as the 2012 cartoon stated that Kraang Prime (who is Pure Evil) brainwashed all the Utroms into becoming his evil lackeys as the Kraang, but it's unknown whether Krang was among the brainwashed Utroms or if he was banished by Subprime before Prime used his psychic powers on his fellow Utroms. It's made even more ambiguous by the fact that he still remains evil even after Kraang Prime's death, as well the fact he speaks perfect English just like Kraang Subprime, who is confirmed to not be brainwashed.
- In the 1987-2012 cartoons crossover episode, Krang tries to destroy Turtle Prime to wipe the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles out of existence despite learning that if Turtle Prime is destroyed, all Earths would follow as shown in Turtles Forever. Thus, one can argue that if the events of the crossover episode happened before the 2003 cartoon movie finale, Krang wasn't aware of this and later opposed doing that again or that the Krang of Turtles Forever may have been from a 1987-lookalike universe like Word of God suggests. However, he does say that destroying said universe is all that's needed to destroy all the Turtles, which implies that he was aware of this.
- To date, he is the only IH from the original series (although Talbot Breech and Wilhelm Vanilli definitely might fill in all the boxes as well).
