| “ | Oh, and by the way... I am no longer your brother Olly. I am KING OLLY! By the time I am done, all of those miserable Toads will be folded... The flimsy paper minions of Bowser shall be reborn as loyal Folded Soldiers--serving me! And I shall fold, crease, and bend the entire paper world to my whim... The birth of a new origami kingdom! | „ |
| ~ King Olly proclaiming his goal to Mario and Olivia before summoning five streamers to relocate Peach's Castle |
| “ | If you've seen one Toad, you've seen them all! They're all the same to me! That's why I have to turn them all into blank pieces of scrap paper. So I never have to see another one of their stupid faces again! That... is my vision for a glorious origami kingdom. | „ |
| ~ King Olly when Olivia asked why he blames the whole species for the action of one Toad, while also showing his racism. |
King Olly, also known as the Origami King, is the titular main antagonist of Paper Mario: The Origami King. He is the ruler of the Origami Kingdom, the elder brother and arch-nemesis of Olivia, the leader of the Folded Soldiers, and commander in chief of the Legion of Stationery.
His Evil Ranking[]
What Makes Him Heinous?[]
- While he was upset about being "scribbled" on by his creator, this doesn't make him tragic as not only is it not played for sympathy, it makes him come across as very petty.
- While he constantly tried to convince Olivia to join him, this wasn't because he cared for her as it's more of an obsession rather than genuine affection which is evident as he had no problem trying to kill her.
- He trapped his creator the Origami Craftsmen and sister Olivia inside walls just because the former wrote on the paper he was made of and the latter disagreed with his plans.
- He folded Princess Peach into origami and folded countless of Bowser's minions into origami, controlling them against their will.
- He stole Princess Peach’s castle and turned it into his own.
- He folded Princess Peach onto the wall as a tapestry, his remark that she was silent implying she was dead, an action that horrified Olivia; in the Paperverse, this would essentially mean he is displaying her corpse.
- He stapled Paper Bowser together, basically rendering him defenseless until the Stapler is defeated.
- Along with that, he forced Paper Bowser watch how Stapler staples his soldiers and folds them into origami.
- He scrunched up thousands of Toads due to his hatred towards them that stemmed from his resentment towards the Origami Craftsmen, effectively trapping them until Mario freed them.
- He confronted Mario, Olivia, and Bobby to try and convince Olivia to join him, and when she refused, he trapped her under a massive boulder, which caused Bobby to sacrifice himself.
- This makes him indirectly responsible for Bobby's death.
- He folded 999 paper cranes, and intended to use Mario's corpse to make the 1000th in order to use this wish to turn all of the Toads into blank paper, which translates into attempted genocide against all of the Toads, simply because he deemed them all no different from the Origami Craftsman who seemingly wronged him.
- He killed two of his own henchmen and tried to excuse this by claiming that they were being punished for cowardice when really they were trying to warn him of Mario, Olivia, and Bowser progressing through Origami Castle.
- In the final battle, he tried to kill Mario, Bowser and Olivia.
- While villains like Bowser, the Shadow Queen, Dimentio and Count Bleck have done worse than him, they had more resources than he does, as while he is very powerful due to his reality warping and army, nothing implies that he could destroy the world. He also serves as a personal villain to Olivia.
What Makes Him Inconsistent?[]
- He redeemed himself and gained redeeming qualities in his final moments. While he did almost kill Olivia and attempted genocide on the Toads because of his hatred towards his creator, he cares for them in the end, as he finally noticed his creator's words on his stomach was him being kind, and showed regret he couldn't have fulfilled his request and in Olivia's case, he commends her for the fatal attack she dealt on him. He also wanted her to make the 1000th crane out of his body to give her a wish. Even though he knows this won't make up for everything he did, he still wanted her to do it for his honor, not because he wanted her to remember him as a monster, but as a brother. To further demonstrate his love for her, he didn't have a pragmatic reason for it, nor did he even force her to do it. All of this makes his death sympathetic as he feels immense remorse for his actions, apologizes for involving Mario and Princess Peach in the madness he created, begs Olivia to use his body to make the last Origami Crane as it's all he has left, and Olivia screams out the word "brother" almost immediately after he dies. It's also further played for sympathy with the fact that the Origami Craftsman still made an origami replicate for him despite all the atrocities and crimes he committed, showing that deep down, the Craftsman still cared about Olly.
