“
That's the thing about friends isn't it? The more you love them, the more it hurts when they go. Allow me to demonstrate.

~ King Andrias hinting at his backstory, before dropping Sprig out of the castle window.
“
Now look what you've made me do.
„
~ King Andrias' most infamous quote upon impaling Marcy Wu with his sword.
“
All this time I thought you had forgotten me. Like I tried to forget you. My dear friend... but you're too late. The things I've done, the pain I caused... THERE'S NO GOING BACK!
„
~ Andrias expressing his remorse over all he's done.
King Andrias Leviathan is the main antagonist of the Disney Channel animated series Amphibia.
He is the king of Amphibia who met one of the human girls, Marcy Wu, and appeared to be jovial and kind ruler who wanted to help Marcy and her friends return home. Unfortunately, this was all a façade, as what he truly wanted was to undo the Olm Prophecy and reclaim the Calamity Box to restart his family's goal of conquering the multiverse, during which he also allowed Marcy to become the host for his master, the Core.
As Andrias and the Core managed to arrive on Earth with their rebuild army of robots, Andrias discovered that he was never truly betrayed by his friends, leading to him abandoning his villainous ways and cutting all ties with the Core, before becoming a gardener to atone for his misdeeds. He's also the son of previous King Aldrich, the former best friend of Leif and Barrel, and the former second archenemy of Anne Boonchuy (following Sasha Waybright).
While it's true to say that most of his heinous acts were done under the Core's orders and the mind hive (including his own father Aldrich by extension) did a bit worse than him, this does not cause Andrias to fail the Heinous Standards, not just because they had more resources than he had, but he himself has committed pretty unique and personally heinous crimes on his own, like throwing Sprig out of castle to spite Anne, and (both figuratively and literally) backstabbing Marcy. In fact, even when preparing for the invasion, Andrias had two attempts to lay waste on Los Angeles.
Background[]
When Leif stole the Calamity Box, he tried to stop her with high implications he tried to kill her.
Out of anger for Leif betraying him, he severed his friendship with Barrel by demoting him into protecting the furthest villages, indirectly causing him to be killed by a terrifying beast later on, now viewing friendship as a weakness thanks to his father's manipulation and gaslighting.
It’s heavily implied he established the caste system of having frogs being oppressed and heavily taxed by toads, solely to spite Leif for her perceived betrayal, which is reinforced by his statement "[Leif] and her kind will need to be kept in line." This would make him indirectly responsible for the whole conflict between Wartwood and Toad Army.
Because of this, Captain Grime was later branded as a traitor to Newtopia following the loss of his army and the tower.
Marcy’s Journal: Guide to Amphibia[]
He had Ernst, the former head of the Newtopia Night Guard, destroy every book and scroll that contained information on the Calamity Box and the Prophecy, to keep Marcy in dark about its true nature.
When Marcy revealed she had thoughts of telling Anne and Sasha the truth, Andrias convinced her to lie to them instead. He also lied to her that he would take the three of them on an adventure throughout the multiverse and after he revealed his true intentions, he hypocritically forced her to tell after she mentioned their deal.
He sent General Yunan to assassinate Captain Grime for betraying Newtopia, resulting in Grime and Sasha’s near-deaths.
Season 2[]
After meeting Marcy Wu for first time, and despite growing to care for her, he made a plan to manipulate her, Anne Boonchuy and Sasha Waybright into unknowingly returning their powers back to Calamity Box, to prevent the Olm Prophecy from happening. Once Anne gave him the box, he revealed his true intentions to use it to restart his family's conquest of the multiverse, starting with Earth.
While it was later revealed that Andrias did this to protect Marcy, as the Core originally ordered him to kill her, his plan isn't exactly any better.
He blew up the North Toad Tower to demonstrate everyone the power of the Calamity Box, presumably killing every toad there.
He purposefully told Anne and Sasha the truth about Marcy being the one who got them stranded in Amphibia in the first place, causing them and the others to turn their backs on her, despite having no reason to do and taking sadistic joy in it.
He attempted to kill Anne and the others once they opposed him.
He tried to kill Polly, who is just a baby, by stepping on her. When Frobo tried to stop him, Andrias dismissed him as "defective" and crushed him in cold-blood, nearly killing him in front of Polly.
He dropped Sprig off of his castle, not caring that he's just a child, even after Anne and Polly agree to his demand to set the Calamity Box back on the pedestal just to make Anne feel the same pain he did when he was betrayed by Leif.
After Anne severely injured him with her newfound Calamity powers, during a moment of anger and sadness over him dropping Sprig to his death, Andrias immediately sought to kill her, seeing her as a threat to his and the Core's plans.
He impaled Marcy through the chest with his laser sword, which would've killed her, after she used Calamity Box to send Anne and the Plantars to Earth.
Season 3[]
His actions gave Anne a huge impact in her life which made her became more fearful and paranoid than ever as she kept his invasion a secret from her parents out of fear of losing them, became overprotective to the Plantars as she tried to prevent others from finding out they're all talking frogs and staying up all night researching to find a way of how to send them back to Amphibia which resulted in a lack of sleep. He also caused the Plantars to be trapped in the Earth and stayed with the Boonchuys while getting chased by the FBI.
He ordered the Frobots to pursue Sasha and Grime and kill them, and later all of Wartwood Swamp.
He sent a Cloak-Bot to Earth to kill Anne and the Plantars. When it didn't initially succeed at killing them, Andrias activated a bomb in its chest that would self-destruct in one hour if it didn't complete its mission within that time before signing out with a fake cheery smile and thumbs up, showing how sadistic he is. The bomb was also indicated to be powerful enough to destroy half of Los Angeles.
Under the Core's orders, he destroyed much of Amphibia's environment through rapid industrialization to rebuild their robot army, likely causing countless deaths. On same token, he also had the local wildlife enslaved through mind-control collars and citizens to be terrorized, enslaved or even killed for resisting.
He prevented Marcy, Olivia and Yunan from escaping before allowing the Core to painfully possess the former, even if he tried to have his master reconsider the host and looked away in shame.
He brainwashed Olivia and Yunan with collars for treason.
After receiving a Drone Soldier as a Christmas gift from Triple B, he quickly used them as canon fodder for the drone without mercy, despite them serving him willingly. He then sent the Drone Soldier to Earth to kill Anne, the Boonchuys and the Plantars.
Had a path to Wartwood be blocked by a laser cannon. This cannon at one point blasted and injured a frog mailman, who didn't seem to be harmful at all.
He started drilling into the city of Proteus, endangering all of the Olms living there, as the drilling would’ve exposed them all to sunlight, which is fatal to Olms. This also caused Lysil and Angwin to nearly die while stopping the drill.
He sent Fire Frobots to incinerate Gardenton and its inhabitants. The burning of the crops during the attack caused immense mental pain to the inhabitants, due to them being psychologically connected to the plants thanks to Apothecary Gary’s spores.
He tried to have the Merry Band, which included a child, executed by the Judge Frobot.
Alongside the Core, he launched an attack on Los Angeles, with the intention to destroy human civilization and strip-mine Earth of its resources.
He threatened to destroy Los Angeles if Anne didn't show up for a rematch against him, and then blew up the Hollywood sign just to prove he wasn't joking.
He attempted to murder Anne in their duel for fate of Earth, and later tried to kill Sprig with her when he interfered.
What Makes Him Inconsistent?[]
He suffers from a genuine tragedy of being psychologically and emotionally manipulated and abused by his father, before being "betrayed" by Leif once she stole the Calamity Box for a genuinely good reason (To prevent Amphibia's destruction), during a period of emotional vulnerability, leading him to believe his father was right when saying his friends were just using him. This caused him to dismiss friendship as weakness due to his actions indirectly and accidentally stopping/halting the Leviathan family's multiversal conquest, now shutting himself from the rest of the world and serving the Core to desperately "fix" his "mistake" and re-earn his father's approval. Anne, Sprig and Marcy (especially the latter) are a shown to sympathize with him, and as a result, this tragedy is always played with huge sympathy for him for this, despite everything he did, so he simply can't qualify for NPE at all.
He also suffers from deep insecurities, as all that he truly wanted is to be loved by his father. He is also still haunted by his past friendship with Leif and Barrel despite severing it.
Despite having a few moments of sadism, it's ultimately clear he never took pride in the deeds he committed, but does so feeling obligated to his master, not to mention he was shown to be disgusted at some of the Core's cruelty.
Because of his tragedy, he's also a villain by proxy as he doesn't wish to be evil but simply feels like he has to to make up for his "mistake".
Despite their friendship being ruined, Andrias does care for Marcy, Leif and Barrel, as the latter two's "betrayal" is what resulted in his fall into villainy, and not only was he still haunted by it, but Leif's secret message is what led to his redemption. As for the former, he tried his best to protect her from The Core, and even during his final farewell with Marcy, he looked away out of shame for betraying her. Nine months later, he was shown possessing items, representing his closest friends.
Even after his true nature was revealed, he has shown to be comedic multiple times such as asking for the Cloak-Bot to get him the latest volume of the Cynthia book series and potato chips from Earth, playing with the drone soldier like a nerdy gamer, saying Merry Christmas to Anne back which gotten him tricked into failed once again and announcing his invasion of Earth in an over the top manner.
Him wishing Anne a Merry Christmas also qualifies as a Pet the Dog moment, as it was done with genuine sincerity before realizing what she was about to do.
After reading Leif's letter, he felt true guilt and regret for his crimes and allowed Anne to defeat him before begging her to save Marcy afterwards. Once he returned to Amphibia, he ultimately redeemed himself by helping the Calamity Trio fight against the Core, as well as standing up to Aldrich and the Core by crushing his crown, indirectly ending his family's reign of terror once and for all. He later happily accepted his punishment of being exiled from Newtopia and doing community service to help heal the land by becoming a farmer to atone for all his misdeeds, finally finding peace.
