Joseph Korso is one of the two secondary antagonists of the 2000 animated film Titan A.E..

His Evil Ranking[]
What Makes Him Heinous?[]
- After witnessing the destruction of Earth at the hands of the Drej, the death of his friend and humanity being scattered across the galaxy and slowly going extinct, Joseph Korso has become nihilistic as he doesn't believe the Drej can be defeated. This has led him to believe that he shouldn't abide to any morals and that he needs to take as much as he can, so he can lead a comfortable life before his own time comes.
- Around 15 years after the destruction of Earth, he has made a deal with the Drej that he would find the Titan spaceship and then reveal its location to them, so the Drej could destroy it if they pay him. It's explicitly stated in the film that the human race would eventually go extinct if they don't have a planet which they could inhabit and the Titan can create a new planet with the same living conditions as Earth. This means that by collaborating with the Drej, Korso is depriving the remnants of the human race of their last chance for survival simply because he has lost all hope and believes the Drej can't be stopped.
- He lies to and manipulates the members of his crew, except Preed, who is Joseph's collaborator. He has told Cale, Akima, Stith and Gune that the goal of their mission is to ensure the survival of the human race by locating the Titan and using it to create a new planet for humanity, but in reality he has planned to betray them from the very beginning and inform the Drej about the location of the Titan as soon as they find it.
- During one of his transmissions to the Drej Queen, he gets angry at her for trying to cut him out of their deal and capture Cale on her own, so she can find the Titan herself without Korso's help. Korso threatens her that he is the one who holds Cale and if she tries something like that again, he would rip Cale's heart out and she wouldn't get anything.
- After Cale and Akima overhear this conversation, they realise that Joseph Korso is a traitor. When they get captured by Preed for eavesdropping and are brought before Korso, Korso explains his views on the world to Cale and when Cale refuses to accept them, Korso mocks both him and his father for being idealistic fools in his mind.
- When Cale attacks him for insulting his father, Korso pins him to the ground and gives him a vicious beatdown.
- After Cale and Akima manage to escape, Korso commands Preed to stop them. This leads to Preed shooting at them and endangering their lives with him even managing to shoot Akima through the shoulder.
- When Stith and Gune ask him why Cale and Akima have run away from him, Korso subtly threatens them both that if they don't obey him, he is going to have them killed, by angrily answering that Cale and Akima ran away because they were afraid what would happen to them if they disobeyed him.
- Upon reaching the Titan, Joseph Korso starts thinking that Stith and Gune would cause troubles and he should get rid of them.
- After Korso and Preed see Cale and Akima inside the Titan, they threaten them not to activate the Titan. Even when Cale tries to convince Korso not to do it and that the Titan is humanity's last chance of survival, Korso is still unmoved, plans to sell out the Titan's location to the Drej for money and states that nothing can defeat the Drej.
What Makes Him Inconsistent?[]
- He is tragic because he witnessed how the Drej destroy his home planet Earth, has experienced the death of his friend Sam Tucker and presumably of many other people he knows, and has witnessed humanity being scattered across the galaxy and being further hunted down by the Drej and slowly going extinct. These events have led him to believe that there is no point in trying to stop the Drej and that no matter what he does, he can't save humanity from them which prompts him to think that the only right way for him to lead his life is by taking whatever he can even if it means allying with the Drej and working for them to get paid handsomely.
- By the end of the film, he redeems himself. When Korso is hanging from a railing and is about to fall, Cale still tries to help him and save his life despite Korso's betrayal. When Korso sees that Cale is endangering his own life to save him, he tells him that he doesn't need to do it and he wouldn't blame him if he lets him fall to his death but Cale doesn't listen to him. In the end, Cale is unable to pull Korso and Korso falls but he is able to survive. The fact that Cale tried to save him at the risk of his own life and despite what Korso had done, prompts Korso to regret his actions. He climbs back, takes a weapon, saves Cale's life from an approaching Drej soldier and frees Cale when he is pinned by a Drej spaceship. When Cale is unable to repair one of the breakers which are needed to start the Titan, Korso tells Cale to still activate the ship and he would take care of the breaker. Korso holds his gun as a bridge in the breaker which makes the reactor start but this costs his life. Thanks to Korso's sacrifice, the Titan is started, the Drej and their ship which are nearby are used to fuel it since they are made of pure energy and the titan creates a new planet for humanity where they can repopulate and start their civilisation again.
- He views Sam Tucker as a friend. He also sometimes acts in a fatherly manner to Sam's son, Cale, tells him his father would be proud of him if he could see him and allows him to drive the spaceship on one occasion so Cale could have a little fun. After Korso's betrayal is revealed and Cale still tries to save him at the cost of his own life, Korso tells him to let him go and that he wouldn't blame him if he lets him fall which doesn't have an effect on Cale. After Cale fails to save him and Korso still falls but survives, he decides to repay Cale, saves his life from an approaching Drej soldier, frees him when he is pinned by a Drej ship and sacrifices himself, so Cale would be able to activate the Titan and wouldn't have to sacrifice his own life for that.
