Jonah Vogelbaum is one of the overarching antagonists of The Boys comics. He is a Jewish scientist who created Compound V for use by Nazi Germany. Fleeing from Germany to the United States with a young Stormfront, he started up a superhero program at Vought, leading to much of the events in the comics.
His Evil Ranking[]
What Makes Him Heinous?[]
- He created Compound V while working under Nazi Germany. Many of his early tests with Compound V ended in disaster. Homelander and Black Noir’s father, Stormfront, was the only surviving test subject.
- After fleeing to America, he started up the superhero program at Vought, pretty much being responsible for all the death and destruction caused by corrupt superheroes.
- Under the orders of Billy Butcher, he created a device that would blow up the heads of every person with Compound V in their bloodstream, meaning that he attempted to kill every Supe, and he almost succeeded in this.
What Makes Him Inconsistent?[]
- He is insufficiently characterized due to only appearing in two scenes with no dialogue and has unclear motives.
- He appears to be a very tragic character.
- He was a Jew working for the Nazis during WWII, likely meaning he was subjected to the horrors of the Holocaust to some degree and possibly only worked with the Nazis to save himself and his family. This is backed up by the fact that he fled Germany fearing for his life.
- His family was supposed to go to America with him but due to issues with the paperwork they were left in Germany and died in a concentration camp.
- His weak and senile state is also played for sympathy to the point that Greg Mallory couldn’t even bring himself to kill him, instead giving the job to Billy.
- It's implied that he still loves his family as the Legend believed he was constantly missing them, even in his old age.
Trivia[]
- Jonah Vogelbaum from the TV series is not Inconsistently Heinous as, although he conducted horrible experiments on a young Homelander and turned him into a monster, he doesn’t stand out from every other Vought scientist who did the same thing and falls into a system standard.
