~ The Joker furious response to Scarecrow unmasking Batman. |
The Joker is the main antagonist of the adult animated series Harley Quinn.
He is Gotham City's greatest criminal, Batman's arch-nemesis and the partner turned arch-rival of the titular main protagonist Harley Quinn, whom he never treated as his equal, before finally abandoning her to Arkham Asylum, which led Harley to become an independent villain and prove to herself that she is better than the Joker. Eventually, he becomes even more ruthless than he already is in his attempts at "getting back" at Harley.
He is voiced by Alan Tudyk.
His Evil Ranking[]
What Makes Him Heinous?[]
- Before the start of the series, he committed the same crimes like his mainstream counterpart, including mass murder as well as killing Jason Todd.
- He is responsible for Harley Quinn’s disfigurement as he manipulated her into falling into the chemicals.
- Attacked a yacht full of people while committing mass murder (including using a man’s face to disguise himself) before leaving Harley to face Batman herself and getting her locked up for a year.
- When he had the choice to save Batman or Harley, he coldly chose Batman.
- When Harley announces that she is breaking up with him, Joker orders his goons to kill her.
- As Usual, he frequently kills his own minions with no regret, including killing one goon just for thinking that women were funny.
- Works with the Legion of Doom for multiple episodes to help with their criminal activities.
- Although he is friends with Bane, he abuses him to which Scarecrow and Two-Face call him out on as well as his cruel behavior toward Penguin’s nephew Joshua while attacking a gala.
- Pretends to genuinely fall in love with Harley and be nice to her just to rub it in her face when he betrays her again as Batman arrives.
- Works with Queen of Fables and Scarecrow to overthrow the Legion of Doom.
- He has Scarecrow drain Ivy of her pheromones.
- He has Queen of Fables trap the Justice League In a book while trying to kill Harley and her crew.
- He Bombs the Legion of Doom base, likely killing any members there.
- After Ivy frees herself and Harley’s crew, he fires a giant flag through her chest, killing her briefly while laughing at Harley.
- Kidnaps Harley’s crew and Batman while placing a bounty on Harley’s head.
- He ruled Gotham as a tyrant for a week, killing people who don’t laugh at his jokes and torturing Batman and Harley’s crew (King Shark and Batman’s torture is more cruel than the others).
- When Batman reveals himself to be Bruce Wayne, he kills Scarecrow out of rage.
- The only reason why he releases Harley’s crew is out of spite, threatening to kill them unless Harley puts on her old costume.
- After defeating Harley in a final fight, he intends to completely erase her mementoes by dropping her in a chemical bath that returns her back to normal.
- Once Ivy arrives and saves Harley, as he’s dropped into the chemical bath to make him normal, he donates bombs all across Gotham, nearly killing Harley’s crew and Batman (the latter nearly dies via heroic sacrifice).
- In season 2, once he turns to normal, while he admits that he still wants to live with his family and has no intent to antagonize Batman nor Harley, he still intends to continue his life of crime.
- Likewise, even after realizing he genuinely loves Bethany and is therefore capable of true love, and no longer antagonizes her because of this, he still never once apologizes to Harley for being an awful boyfriend to her as well as all the other horrible things he put her and her crew through (Granted, he does give her genuine relationship advice to her on how to woo Ivy, but still.)
- During his election campaign, he steals from the Gotham Bank, though admittedly he gives all the money to the citizens.
- When he's elected mayor, he disbands the police department and mocks Jim Gordon over this.
- Corrupted his whole family into becoming evil just like himself.
- While it turned out he never actually did kill Nightwing, (It was actually Harley herself who did the deed.) as he was being treated for his sleep apnea at the time, he still took credit as his killer just so he can make a full-time comeback from villainy, knowing full well he's hurting the Wayne family and their allies (specifically Barbara, who was around where he announced he was Nightwings killer right in front of everyone in the league of villainy including her, and completely broke down in tears and then ran away, even if it turned out he actually never did kill him and only did so just to become a popular villain again.)
- After Batgirl/Barbra exposed him as not being Nightwing's killer and that he only took credit as his killer just so he could make a comeback to villainy full-time, he then gets back at her by shooting her at the waist down right in front of Harley, permanently crippling her therefore forcing her to abandon her Batgirl persona and becoming Oracle.
- Furthermore, this heinous act indirectly risked and potentially cost his relationship with Bethany and her kids, as after Harley decides to avenge Barbara, she attacks Bethany, demanding her to tell her where Joker is, Bethany initially refuses, but when her kids Sofia and Benicio got involved intending to stop Harley, Harley doesn't back down and is willing to attack them just to stop Joker, not caring that they're children, Bethany immediately backs down and rats out Joker to her, possibly ending their relationship. Therefore, he indirectly/unknowingly putted his own girlfriend and stepkids in danger just to get back at someone out of pity.
What Makes Him Inconsistent?[]
- Due to the fact that the Harley Quinn TV series is a black comedy, he has many comedic moments such as being mad over Harley choosing Sweet Home Alabama for date night instead of Legally Blonde, his hatred for raisins, having a breakdown over an electric car he ordered after discovering Batman’s identity, and torturing Doctor Psycho by making him watch feminist rallies.
- When he regained his memories and normal appearance, he still keeps loving Bethany and her kids and intends to live with them as a family, ironically even treating them even better than Harley.
- He is sometimes heroic has he helped Batman and Harley save Gotham and the Justice League and even gave Harley some legitimate relationship advice for her romance with Ivy.
- He is a very affectionate and devoted father to his two children.
- He's respectful of his kid's boundaries, not wanting to step up as their father unless they wanted to.
- He tries to get Benicio and Sophia enrolled in the Spanish Dual Immersion Program in order to help them accept their Hispanic identity and to improve their future prospects.
- He runs for mayor in order to get his two children enrolled in this program.
- When Benicio is kidnapped by Two-Face, Joker immediately rushes over to rescue his son. Then, after Two-Face forces Joker to choose between saving his step-son and dropping out of the election, Joker instantly chooses his step-son, noting that he only ran for mayor to help his children, which brings tears to Benicio's eyes.
- When Benicio calls him "dad", Joker smiles and compassionately embraces Benicio.
- As noted by Jim Gordon, Joker ironically acts as a better father to his step-children than Gordon does with his own daughter.
- After moving in with his new family, he becomes much less violent and develops standards. These include:
- When Bethany expresses the desire to violently hit Debbie with a tire iron for taking the spots from their children in the Dual Immersion Program, Joker stops her, instead attempting to bribe Debbie with food to get Benicio and Sophia spots in the program.
- Despite Debbie constantly mocking Joker over her children getting in the Dual Immersion Program, her privileges and her connections with the City Council, Joker doesn't kill her or even harm her, in spite of the fact that he's killed others for much less in the past.
- During his election campaign, he gives all the money he steals to the people, promoting policies such as free tuition and free healthcare for Gotham citizens.
- He is disgusted by Gordon's willingness to kill children, not knowing Gordon was unaware of Two-Face's plan.
- When Jim Gordon prepares to kill Two-Face, Joker stops him and convinces Gordon to spare his life, even though Two-Face had kidnapped and nearly killed his step-son. Joker instead reminds Gordon that his job as commissioner is to make things better, causing Gordon to remark on how much Joker has changed.
