Inconsistently Heinous Wiki

The Ice King is the main antagonist of the Adventure Time non-canon Season 5 episode "A Glitch Is a Glitch".

He is the demented ruler of the Ice Kingdom and the archenemy of Finn the Human and Jake the Dog. Unlike his original counterpart, who started out as a mentally unstable villain obsessed with kidnapping princesses before gradually recovering his sanity and redeeming himself, here the Ice King develops a dangerous glitch virus which will erase everything in the world until only he and Princess Bubblegum remain.

Like his original version, he was voiced by Tom Kenny, who also voices SpongeBob SquarePants in the eponymous television series and Dr. Two-Brains from WordGirl.

His Evil Ranking[]

What Makes Him Heinous?[]

  • Presumably kidnapped several princesses and faced Finn the Human and Jake the Dog in the past, like his canon version did.
  • Creates a glitch virus to erase all life in the world so only he and Princess Bubblegum would remain, apparently because Bubblegum once said to him that if he were the last person in the world, she would accept to date him.
  • Sends a disturbing video of a woman eating her own hair to Finn and Jake, leading them to close the video, which activates the virus and starts deleting everything around.
    • Although one can say that the danger of the glitch virus is played for laughs due to Donut Guy screaming like a crazy because his face is being deleted and Jake commenting that he will miss his arm like if it were a sentient being, it's still seriously taken by Princess Bubblegum, Finn and Jake, with many of Ooo's citizens being scared for what's happening to them and Finn and Jake expressing concern when their limbs start to vanish, so this doesn't count as Fridge Horror.
  • He didn't even create an anti-virus to stop the glitch virus to delete everything and everyone forever minus him and Bubblegum, proving that he didn't even care for all the lives that would be lost forever thanks to his actions.
  • His actions indirectly nearly lead to the deaths of Finn and Jake, who ventured into the universe's codes to get rid of his glitch virus.

What Makes Him Inconsistent?[]

  • Just like his canon version, this Ice King has likewise too many comedic moments to be taken seriously, with his defeat being played for laughs as he ends up trapped inside a house that was restored through him and possibly killed by a snake-spider hybrid create Jake created in the universe's codes. However, his attempted cataclysm is without doubt the worst thing the Ice King in general did in the show, so this is a minor prevention.
  • Even if his "love" is more like an obsession, he does seem to be unrequitedly in love with Princess Bubblegum, given how he wanted so desperately to date her, even buying her a box of chocolates and flowers rather than kidnapping her like his canon version often did in the show's early seasons.
  • He has moral agency issues due to his insanity. His worst crime was motivated by misinterpreting Princess Bubblegum's hyperbolic claim that she'd date him if he was the last guy in Ooo. While he was aware his glitch was going to destroy the world, he didn't perceive that as a bad thing and was genuinely confused when Bubblegum was horrified over the cataclysmic ramifications of the glitch.
    • While his canonical tragedy of the Ice Crown warp his mind to the point of insanity is never explicitly mentioned, nothing in the episode subverts it, so it still should be taken into consideration.

Trivia[]

  • His canon counterpart cannot qualify for massively failing the heinous standards to other villains in the series.
