~ Hyness's infamous rant which shows how insane he is and explains his backstory, right before fighting Kirby. |
Hyness (in Japanese: ハイネス, Hainesu) is the main antagonist of the 2018 video game Kirby Star Allies.
He is an insane mage who leads the Jambastion Cult and is the superior of The Three Mage-Sisters. His goal is to bring back Void Termina in order to bring an "age of awesome" with the Jamba Hearts. He was presumably sealed away by the Ancients out of fear of his power, but he came back somehow. At the beginning of the plot, he accidentally caused the Jamba Hearts to rain upon Dreamland, thus causing the events of the plot.
He was voiced by Shigeru Chiba, who also played F.A.N.G in the Japanese version of Street Fighter V, and Kefka Palazzo in the Japanese version of Dissidia Final Fantasy Opera Omnia.
His Evil Ranking[]
Debated Validations[]
- While never played for sympathy, it is possible his tragedy could excuse his actions due to being sealed away in fear of his power, and that he stopped a "nightmare of a galactic crisis", which shows he could have been good beforehand. Furthermore, it is possible this is the reason he is so insane in the first place. However, it is unknown how long he was sealed away, what the nightmare of a galactic crisis even is isn't known, and it is unconfirmed if it is actually responsible for his insanity. Furthermore, this information is most likely unreliable due to how insane he is, which means it may have not have actually happened at all and he is just randomly spouting out stuff.
- According to Meteorz's "What is Kirby Canon?" series, others who suffered this same fate (like Galacta Knight) likely may have had at least the same reaction.
- It is possible he does care for The Three Mage-Sisters, as he saved their lives, and although he treats them abusively, The Ultimate Choice shows he is remorseful about it. However, the fact he still puts them through horrible abuse, and was willing to sacrifice their lives without any hesitation makes this debatable.
What Makes Him Heinous?[]
- He treats the Three Mage-Sisters rather horribly, as seen by the fact that when Zan Partizanne was knocked out, he just says that she is in his way and slaps her out of the way. Not only that, but he had their energy drained just to use them as battering rams against Kirby, and he uses them as a sacrifice to bring back Lord Termina.
- While doing a ritual to bring back Lord Termina, he accidentally causes the Jamba Hearts to spread everywhere and corrupt the inhabitants of Popstar. While this was unintentional, he did not care about the fact everyone was corrupted, and just cared about getting the hearts back so that he could resurrect Void Termina.
- Ultimately, he does end up resurrecting Void Termina, even sacrificing himself to do so, knowingly putting the entire universe at stake.
What Makes Him Inconsistent?[]
- He is too insane to have a proper moral agency, as he can hardly even speak without making random outbursts, he is filled with delusional beliefs that he genuinely will be bringing back the universe in a peaceful state, he is highly prone to fits of insanity, and The Ultimate Choice shows he may not even have control over his own actions, as he seems to constantly forget things and is apologetic about him neglecting Zan Partizanne while still doing it, which means he may not be able to control what he does to them.
- He does show some degree of remorse for his abuse and neglect of The Three Mage-Sisters, even before his redemption, apologizing for constantly forgetting them and his abuse of them.
- He redeems himself in the end, as when Kirby ends up freeing him from being consumed by darkness, and when The Three Mage-Sisters tell him about how Kirby did that, he ends up becoming an ally out of gratitude.
