| ~ Humpty Dumpty's most famous line, revealing the lengths of his betrayal to Puss. |
Humpty Alexander Dumpty is the main antagonist of DreamWorks' 23rd full-length animated feature film, Puss in Boots, a spin-off of the Shrek franchise.
He used to be Puss's best friend when the two were living their childhood at the orphanage, but their friendship would come to a halt when Humpty tricks Puss into helping him rob the San Ricardo bank, which Puss abandons him for at the hands of the guards, thus causing Humpty to develop a grudge against him and seek revenge in the later years.
He was voiced by Zach Galifianakis, who also voiced the Joker from The LEGO Batman Movie.
His Evil Ranking[]
What Makes Him Heinous?[]
- He caused a good amount of trouble when he was young with Puss, as they committed thievery on a certain basis in their search for the magic beans, and while Puss grew out of those habits and turned over a new leaf, Humpty increased that hobby even further to the point of an obsession. Notably, Puss took Imelda’s words to be better than petty thieves to heart while Humpty disregarded them.
- He randomly threw some rocks at a barn, unwittingly unleashing a bull on the street. Seeing this, he wanted to leave the scene before getting caught, completely uncaring about what would happen to the bystanders.
- The rampaging bull would've probably injured, if not killed, the mother of one of the guards if Puss had not saved her.
- He tricked Puss into helping him rob the San Ricardo bank and caused Puss to take all the blame, which ruined Puss's life and reputation, and when Puss called him out for tricking him, Humpty self-righteously defended himself by saying it was for his own good.
- His robbery also caused the stolen gold to be lost to the river, which Puss said was all the townsfolk had, meaning Humpty caused town-wide poverty.
- Even if he went to prison for that, he never regretted the robbery and was merely mad at Puss for leaving him on the bridge.
- Upon bringing the golden goose to San Ricardo, Humpty betrayed Puss by having the guards arrest him without clearing his name as revenge for abandoning him to the guards years ago, before using the golden goose so he could lure its mother, the Great Terror, to the town to get it destroyed, which would also end up with its townsfolk slaughtered.
- While he is not as heinous as Rumpelstiltskin or Big Jack Horner, Humpty still stands out due to having lower resources than them, doing the most he can with them, which leads to the endangerment of a whole city, and having personal villainy towards Puss, as him betraying Puss by tricking him into robbing the bank and leaving him to take all the blame led Puss to become a fugitive for many years.
- And while the bird herself had a more major role in imperiling the city compared to Humpty, she was doing wrong ignorantly, owing to her complete lack of sapience, merely seeking her baby despite there being buildings in her way and being oblivious to anyone she was endangering. Not to mention Humpty was straight-up using her due to having premeditated her showing up.
What Makes Him Inconsistent?[]
- He is tragic and sympathetic to a degree, as he was bullied at the orphanage when he was young, which was the main reason why he would come to hate San Ricardo and not understand why Puss would grow attached to the town.
- He had a genuine friendship with Puss and even seemed to feel a bit of guilt and conflict over his betrayal as he sadly stared at a drawing he and Puss had made when they were young.
- He redeemed himself by helping Puss lure the Great Terror out of San Ricardo and return the golden goose to her, even sacrificing himself in the process.
Trivia[]
- Humpty is the only villain for both Puss In Boots and Shrek to be both Inconsistently Heinous and Inconsistently Admirable.
