NOTE: This page is only covering Homura in the film series continuity, as Homura in Anime continuity is not a villain. |
“ | You don't know how long I've waited. | „ |
~ Homura, right as she was about to drag Madoka out from the heaven. |
“ | I just wanted you back with me. It didn't matter what I had to do. I'd commit the worst sins for one more chance. Even if it turned me into a monster, I wouldn't matter as long as I could have you back. | „ |
~ Homura declares her willingness to do anything for Madoka. |
Homura Akemi (暁美ほむら) is one of the main protagonists of the Puella Magi Madoka Magica: The Movie film series. She first appeared as a mysterious magical girl in Madoka Kaname's nightmare as she fought Walpurgisnacht. Despite her main goal being to protect Madoka, her desire is so self-destroying obsession and ultimately leads to her becoming a demon to give Madoka the life she believes she wants.
She is voiced by Chiwa Saitō in Japanese and by Cristina Vee in English dub of the anime, who the latter also voiced Nu-13 from BlazBlue series.
Her Evil Ranking[]
What Makes Her Heinous?[]
- Everytime she restarts the timeline trying to save Madoka's life, she's starting to lose value of other magical girls' lives to the point of even neglecting them.
- She threatened other magical girls' lives if they hurt Madoka, unintentional or not.
- She made a wish to go back in time, so she could stop Madoka from becoming a magical girl. However, each time she reversed, the 'threads' of each timeline would remain connected to the current Madoka. This, in turn, would increase the potency of Madoka's overall destiny. She would become capable of both saving and destroying the world several times over. Although Homura did not know about this side effect, so this was not her fault.
- In Rebellion, she grabbed Madoka from the heaven and took her god powers before her soul could be taken to rest and elevates herself to the level of a devil and gains newfound powers to match, thus breaking the Law of Cycles. She then rewrote the current reality to keep Madoka a sweet, innocent girl who no longer has to struggle with any hardships, disregarding whatever Madoka's feelings on the situation might have.
- Her form of interrogation is brutal, as shown by her treatment toward Bebe. Although she had every reason to be suspicious of what's really going on, her subjecting physical harm was unwarranted, given this time, Bebe posed no threat to her and is an innocent young girl unlike her original witch counterpart.
- She sentences all of the Incubators to eternal damnation. And while they do deserve to be punished for ruining the lives of all magical girls and the countless lives lost in the process, the film still paints Homura on an immoral light and how she became no better when doing so.
- She might decide to destroy the universe if all of the wraiths have been wiped out.
What Makes Her Inconsistent?[]
- She is far too tragic to be NPE. She had to move to Mitakihara without her parents supporting her, thus she struggled with life until she met Madoka, whom she formed a genuine bond with. However, this was short-lived when Madoka was killed by Walpurgisnacht. Homura then made a contract with Kyubey so she could reverse time to save Madoka, only for her to fail and witness the death of her best friend over and over again.
- She is an extremist as all she wanted was to create a universe where Madoka will not have to suffer from being a magical girl.
- Despite turning into a villain, she genuinely cares for some people in her life.
- While her relationship with Madoka gradually became more obsessively toxic, she still deeply cares and loves her as Madoka is the sole reason for her to do all the heinous acts.
- While she started to lose value of her other friends (Mami, Kyoko, and Sayaka Miki), she still cares about them deep down. One example is when Homura is about to shoot defenseless Mami in the head, she hesitated and moved her gun to aim at her leg instead.
- When she realized the frailty of her new created universe where happiness of both her own and all magical girls is simply a temporary distraction from the cruel reality and it took away every magical girl's happiness, she felt genuine remorse for all the horrible things she had done.
Trivia[]
- She is one of two Madoka Magica characters, so far, to be Inconsistently Heinous, along with her archenemy Kyubey.
- Unlike Kyubey, however, Homura is also Inconsistently Admirable.
