A fight is about who's left standing. Nothing else.
~ Heihachi Mishima
What I desire is power. The absolute power that comes with the Devil Gene!
~ Heihachi's obsession for the Devil Gene.
Die, Kazuya! Your delusions of grandeur finally end here!
~ Heihachi in his final fight with Kazuya in Tekken 7 and his special Rage Art in Tekken 8.

Heihachi Mishima is one of the two main antagonists of the Tekken franchise. He is the arch-nemesis of his son Kazuya Mishima and is the grandfather of Jin Kazama.

He is an ambitious and power-hungry tyrant who's almost always responsible for the events of the games but his impact seems to decrease during the events of 5 and 6, after his last defeat and false death after 4, yet he is still the indirect reason of the events in those games as well.

In Japanese, he was initially voiced by the seiyu Banjo Ginga in the first game, only to be replaced Wataru Takagi in the second game, and then by the late Daisuke Gōri from Tekken 3 through Tekken 6, and then by the late Unshō Ishizuka through Tekken Tag Tournament 2 and Tekken 7, and later Taiten Kusunoki in Tekken 8.

His Evil Ranking[]

What Makes Him Heinous?[]

  • He threw his son off the cliff and caused Kazuya to walk the path of evil, making him responsible for the events of the second game, as well as some of Kazuya’s crimes.
  • He staged a coup against his own father Jinpachi and stole the Mishima Zaibatsu from him. Once he tries to take back the company, Heihachi imprisoned him beneath the Mishima temple, Hon-Maru, where he later died of starvation. This leads to him getting possessed by a demonic entity and wanting to wipe all of existence.
  • He unleashed Ancient Ogre into the world, which resulted mass murders of fighters all around the world.
  • He attempted to kill Jin Kazama by shooting him in the head once he defeated Ogre. This, however, awakens Jin's Devil form.
  • He conducted an attack on a company building, and captured Jin during his tournament in order to lure Kazuya.
  • He killed and destroyed some of Mishima Zaibatsu’s buildings and officials.
  • He attacked Violet Systems and Yggdrasil, and went so far as to kill Italian exorcists.
  • He destroyed G-Corp's main building, resulting in hundreds of deaths.
  • Even though Tekken is filled with war criminals and demons, he still stands out as a heinous due to causing mass murder both directly and indirectly.
  • While he does have comedic moments in his endings, none of them are canon, so it doesn't detract him, in some cases, these comedic moments show how sadistic he is.
  • In the 8 story, it is stated that Heihachi betrayed Claudio and caused mass defect in Archers of Sirius.
  • After being saved by the Tekken Monks and being taught a new martial arts technique, he betrayed the monks by beating them and pummeling them to their deaths. In the process, he also beat up Lidia, Yoshimitsu, and Eddy.

What Makes Him Inconsistent?[]

  • He has a tragic backstory, since him murdering Kazumi was only to save himself, and he even shed tears after killing her. Also, the reason for the creation of his karate gi was to order to honor his fallen wife, which he wore that until he died.
  • He cares for his two bears, Kuma and Kuma II, raising Kuma II after Kuma's death and personally looking for him once he reclaimed his seat on the Zaibatsu in Tekken 7, He is also affable to Xiaoyu, who he has a genuinely friendly relationship with and trained her Panda to fight to protect her.
  • He has moral standards and some anti-villainous roles, as he shows some disgust for Kazuya shooting his satellite, which falls on a largely populated town and causes thousands to die. He also opposes Kazuya, when the latter took over the Mishima Zaibatsu in Tekken 2 and made conflicts worse than Heihachi did with more heinous acts. And he hates misery and precariousness, inquiring he managed the Zaibatsu, he would never let things degrade to such a level.
  • He is honorable and there are pet the dog moments, as he treats women very respectfully and despises those who subjugate those who cannot defend themselves. He also rewards those who serve him or amuse him, though such acts may damage his reputation.

Trivia[]

  • His anime counterpart from the movie does not qualify as Inconsistently Heinous, as that version of Heihachi is even worse than his original counterpart from the games and only has one redeeming quality, thus his film counterpart qualities as Near Pure Evil.
