HADES is a major antagonist of the Horizon franchise. It serves as the main antagonist of the 2017 video game Horizon Zero Dawn, as well as a minor character in the 2022 video game Horizon Forbidden West.
Created by erstwhile criminal hacker known as Travis Tate as one of GAIA's Subordinate Functions, as a purpose to reverse any of GAIA's failed terraforming attempts, it later soon gained human-like sentience after being bombarded by a powerful signal from Nemesis, a rogue Far Zenith AI, where it would soon attempt to use GAIA to kill all life on Earth. However, this attempt failed due to GAIA's self-destruction.
HADES would soon seek out other methods to pull off its act, before mere coincidence when Sylens' encounter with it would soon change everything for the now-sentient AI, where it would serve as the true leader of the Shadow Carja cult known as the Eclipse.
HADES is voiced by John Gonzalez in Horizon Zero Dawn, the series' narrative director, and later by Anthony Ingruber in Horizon Forbidden West.

What Makes It Heinous?[]
- HADES attempted to take over GAIA in the past after gaining sentience from Nemesis, as means to use the terraforming system to destroy all life on Earth, where it soon failed because of GAIA Prime's self-destruction.
- After being found at a FAS-BOR7 Horus machine by Sylens, where it was soon repaired, HADES would soon betray Sylens after his usefulness was outlived by giving Helis a kill order to him.
- While HADES would soon create the Eclipse as its true leader to target Meridian and retake it from Avad by force, HADES would only use them as mere pawns for its true goal: to reach the Alight, where the MINERVA broadcast tower is, as means to use it to awaken the long-buried FARO Robots around the planet to destroy life on new Earth, this time without GAIA.
- HADES would order to target Aloy a day before the Proving by using Olin as a spy, where it led to the Proving Massacre that killed numerous Nora Braves, including Rost.
- After the Eclipse Network was crashed by Aloy, following her attack into the Eclipse's secret base, an angered HADES would soon attempt to retaliate in extreme anger by sending Deathbringers to kill her in the base.
- HADES would soon give the order to Helis and the Eclipse, as well as its own army of FARO machines, during the Battle of Meridian and the Alight, where the AI is responsible for the numerous casualties that occurred during the devastating attack, including both in Meridian and in Meridian Village.
- HADES taunted Aloy about GAIA's destruction for no particular reason, leading to its deactivation.
What Makes It Inconsistent?[]
- While it has no redeeming qualities, HADES suffers from Moral Agency issues. There are parts where HADES has manipulated the Eclipse to use them as pawns for its even greater goal, and later in the sequel where it was frightened after its interrogation with Sylens. However, it lacks a coherent personality as a sentient AI, as most of its "personality" was particularly determined by its programming as a subordinate function of reversing GAIA's failed terraforming attempts.
