Grand King Ghidorah is one of the main antagonists of the Pre-Paradox seasons of Monster Island Buddies, serving as the overarching antagonist of seasons 1-6, the main antagonist of season 7, and the secondary antagonist of season 8. He is the racist father and grandfather of Keizer Ghidorah and King Ghidorah respectively who seeks to kill Mothra and conquer Earth.
His Evil Ranking[]
What Makes Him Heinous?[]
In General[]
- Unlike his son Keizer who was somewhat conflicted and was willing to accept peace between him and the good monsters as long as the truce wasn’t broken and loved his son who was similarly conflicted and wanted peace, Grand is portrayed as a firm supremacist and tyrant who believes that the Ghidorah’s should conquer Earth and kill all divine moths.
Both Timeline’s[]
- Prior to the series, he constantly tried to conquer Earth for centuries, with his son Keizer even revealing to Mothra that he wanted to break several new intergalactic treaties that were made by the head Ghidorah council.
- In the past, he was shown to be verbally abusive to not only his son but also his grandson King Ghidorah, with him at one point showing anger to King Ghidorah (in a flashback when he was kid) when he admitted he didn’t want to conquer Earth while also berating Keizer for “poor parenting” and letting him “disrespect” his authority, culminating in him admitting he would slap both of them if he had hands.
- Because of this, Keizer and King Ghidorah eventually went on to be insecure and conflicted, with Keizer even admitting to Alien X that he tried to reason with grand but could never get through with him.
- As a result of the constant pressure he put on Kezier to try and conquer Earth, he’s indirectly responsible for all the things he did in seasons 3 and 4 in order to impress him.
- Sending his son King Ghidorah to try and take over Earth.
- Trying to conquer Earth himself.
- Hiring the bad monsters (Spacegodzilla, Orga, Battra, Megalon, Gigan, Hedorah, etc).
- Having Rodan kidnapped.
- Disassembling an out of battery Mechagodzilla and later using a his pieces to create a new one and having it go back in time and disguise himself as a future Godzilla.
- Having the evil Mechagodzilla try and kill Godzilla.
- Sending the bad monsters to try and kill Mothra’s new egg so that she could never be reborn and stop them.
- Upon learning that Keizer, King Ghidorah, and Mothra had created a truce, he immediately tried to stop it before later getting distracted when Keizer told mattock was on.
- When Godzilla tried to explain to Keizer that the truce was a misunderstanding and that it was Kong who instigated it, Grand immediately interrupted him and encouraged Keizer to ignore him and continue attacking and kill them all, thus preventing the situation from possibly being de-escalated.
Bad Timeline[]
- Wiped out half of Godzilla’s friends.
- Conquered Earth.
- Promoted Gigan as General and had him spent the following year capturing and killing the remaining survivors.
- Had Gigan travel 1 year into the past in order to stop Godzilla from stopping the traitor (King Kong) who broke the truce.
Good Timline[]
- Promoted King Ghidorah as General
- As the leader of the Ghidorah’s and the bad monsters, he’s ultimately responsible for everything they did. For instances:
- Biollante briefly hacking the robot monsters and making them attacking each other, resulting in Mechagodzilla getting heavily damaged and having to be transferred to his old body.
- Ultraman and King Ghidorah ambushing one of the good monsters bases, resulting in the former and the staypuff marshmallow man (one of the good monsters recruits) getting killed.
- Alien X disguising himself as Godzilla’s late stepson Zilla and attacking/injuring him causing a crack in his skull.
- Keizer and the other bad monsters imprisoning the other Good monsters.
- By going to war with the Good monsters, he is ultimately responsible for Cthulhu rising from hell (who had been empowered by the toll and chaos of the war) and starting the apocalypse in the final 3 episodes of season 8 which temporarily forced Godzilla to go back and time and cause a time paradox by killing their past selves in order to avoid suffering a fate worse than death.
- Additionally, he’s also indirectly responsible for Barack Obama trying to destroy both the good and bad monsters with the payday bomb in order to prevent the war from getting worse and, which would have killed all of them and allow Cthulhu to rise to Earth way sooner.
- Ordered King Ghidorah to kill Mothra, even if he ultimately didn’t go through with it.
- Upon realizing that Godzilla’s step son Zilla was dying of an asthma attack, he expressed confusion that he died without him even doing anything rather than sympathy.
- Planned on executing all the good monsters after Keizer had them imprisoned.
- When King Ghidorah was getting beat up by Rodan and was asking for help, he refused, claiming that if he couldn’t fight a “bird” he had nothing for him.
- When King Ghidorah eventually decided he didn’t want to conquer the Earth anymore during Mothra and Rodan’s wedding he killed him.
- After killing King Ghidorah, he began firing his gravity beams at Godzilla and the other monsters, all while gloating that he didn’t need an army to kill them.
- Upon being revived by Cthulhu (alongside Keizer, Death Ghidorah, and Cloverfield) as a member of his army, he immediately began assisting him in trying to kill the other monsters and conquer Earth for all of eternity.
- As a result of his crimes, the Ghidorah head council eventually made a rule that no rouge Ghidorah would be allowed on Earth, leading to one of their agents nearly confiscating Mothra and Rodan’s kids when they turned out to be Dorat’s in the post paradox episodes. Fortunately, Rodan managed to convince them to let them stay after the Dorats who had merged into one turned out to have Mothra’s DNA.
What Makes Him Inconsistent?[]
- Like many villains throughout the series, he has way too many comedic moments that detract from his heinous. For examples:
- Stating that if he had two hands he would “b!+ch slap” both Keizer Ghidorah and King Ghidorah.
- Keizer Ghidorah temporarily managing to prevent Grand King Ghidorah from breaking the truce by telling Matlock was on.
- Him asking if Zilla had died during the latter’s death scene.
- Him saying “oh shit” just a Mothra killed him, referencing what King Ghidorah said when he first died in season 1, which in of itself was a reference to Audrey 2’s death in Little shop of horrors.
- Him stating he thought he “sh!+” his pants while being defeated by Big Daddy Godzilla.
- It’s implied he cared for his late friends, stating “I didn’t watch my friends die face down in a mud during the Great War so this spoiled brat could question our authority!”
Trivia[]
- Him, Gojira, and King King are the only Monster Island Buddies villains to be inconsistently heinous.
- He and King Ghidorah (anime trilogy) are only versions of King Ghidorah to be Inconsistently Heinous.
