I'm far superior to any man.
~ Gorilla Grodd.
That's right, puny ones-- scurry away like the mice you are! You are no match for-- the wrath of Grodd!
~ Gorilla Grodd.

Gorilla Grodd is one of the main antagonists of the DC Animated Universe, serving as the secondary antagonist of Justice League and Justice League Unlimited.

He was a hyper-intelligent ape native to Gorilla City who sought to destroy his former home and take over the Earth, resulting in him becoming an enemy of the Flash and the Justice League. He was the leader and founder of the Secret Society (and subsequently the Legion of Doom, before being usurped and later killed by Lex Luthor).

He was voiced by the late Powers Boothe.

His Evil Ranking[]

What Makes Him Heinous?[]

Justice League[]

  • He punched The Flash for getting him a banana since he dislikes the fruit. And he uses mind control to force him to kill Green Lantern and Solovar.
  • Grodd uses a colossal energy surge to attempt to kill his enemies.
  • He uses mind control on citizens to make Flash, Green Lantern and Solovar to fight against them.
  • He and Sarah Corwin activated the missile-target on Gorilla City.
  • He tries to kill The Flash in their fight, in the Brave and the Bold.
  • He recruits villains to join to kill Justice League in front of the football stadium.
  • He tries to talk his way to Superman to use him as a weapon.

Justice League Unlimited[]

  • He arranged a breakout for Lex Luthor to get out of prison, so he joins his Legion of Doom.
  • He installed a fail-safe mechanism in each of his allies' minds so that if they were ever in a situation where his plans could be revealed, their brains would automatically "short circuit" and shut down, wiping their memories and leaving them comatose.
    • Giganta was a victim of this and was in a condition for a time. When she was arrested, Grodd did not try to break her out. This causes her to betray him eventually.
  • He sends his Legion of Doom members to invade Gorilla City.
  • He uses a machine to transform every humans into Gorillas.
  • When Flash was stuck inside Lex's body and asked Grodd for help, the Gorilla refuses and shows he knew all along Flash was inside Lex's body.
  • He tries to brainwash Lex Luthor. although it only backfires.
  • Although his fate of getting ejected into space is harsh and played for sympathy, it doesn't make him a scapegoat given his atrocities.

What Makes Him Inconsistent?[]

  • Unlike his comics counterpart, he is too affable to qualify as NPE. For example, he didn't manipulate Sarah Corwin as a pawn, and insisted in asking for help for his plans and treats his followers well.
  • He recruited Shade and somehow put a fair amount of trust in him.
  • When Parasite questions him, Grodd remains sternly polite.
  • He liked Tala. And agreed to take her back for the Mutiny against Lex and his followers.
  • He has a sense of honor, like bring Clayface in to join the Secret Society. He promised turning Clayface back as a human.
  • Grodd didn't execute Morgan Edge. Killer Frost killed him.
  • While it doesn’t make him a scapegoat, his final fate of getting ejected into space and being left to die is played for sympathy, particularly since he was arguably less evil than Lex Luthor.

Trivia[]

  • He is the first version of Gorilla Grodd to be Inconsistently Heinous and one of two overall, along with his Arrowverse counterpart.
  • He is far more sympathetic than his Injustice version.
