“ | It's been a long time, hasn't it Mario? | „ |
~ Gonzo's most famous quote |
Gonzo is the main antagonist of the Cute Mario Bros. franchise. He is Mario and Luigi's ultimate arch-nemesis and Kermit's former boss.
Although Bowser was originally the main antagonist of the series, Gonzo turned out to be more evil than Bowser, making him the true main antagonist of the entire franchise.
He was voiced by Tyler Zanon.
His Evil Ranking[]
What Makes Him Heinous?[]
- He tried to beat Mario and Luigi in The Blue Terror.
- After becoming more powerful with an unknown substance, Gonzo went back in time and kidnapped Yoshi and turned him into evil.
- When Gonzo unleashes a lightning attack on Mario and Luigi, Kermit sacrifices himself to protect them, making him indirectly responsible for his death.
- He tried to drown Mario and Luigi in lava after Kermit's death.
- Upon returning in Mario's Rock Band!, he disguised himself as a record producer and convinced the gang to become famous. Meanwhile, he slowly corrupts Luigi into thinking he can be cool without his friends, eventually making him end his relationship with Mario.
- Not long after Mario leaves the house, Gonzo tries to kill him until Mickey saves Mario.
- In Toadsworth's prophecy, he mentioned Gonzo would've killed Luigi and his remaining friends after Mario went missing, and eventually obtained the Fire Flower, rampaged the world, and killed billions.
- He resurrected Kermit to aid him in his quest to find the Fire Flower.
- He interrogated Jack into giving him the location of Mario and Luigi, and the map to find the Fire Flower, under the threat of destroying his picture of Robin Williams. When he does tell him, he destroys the picture anyway.
- He interrogated the Toad whom he assumed to have the map, and due to his speech impediment, he cannot understand him. Eventually, he nearly beats him to death for the map.
- After obtaining the Fire Flower, he betrays Kermit and tries to kill him the second time.
- Although in the video Mario's Amnesia, where he tries to help Mario reconcile with his friends when he ran away, it was just a dream, and that wasn't the real Gonzo.
- While he seems to have redeemed himself in the Mail Time videos, where he was seen delivering fan mail for the main cast, those videos weren't canon.
What Makes Him Inconsistent?[]
- He had a tragic backstory, as he was regularly bullied by others and seen as a weakling, and was once the biggest fan of Mario and Luigi who were by then regarded as the greatest people in Mushroom Kingdom. When he asks Mario to invite him to a party, Mario rudely insults and punches him, saying nobody likes him. Although it doesn't justify his actions, it's played sympathetically since it's the main reason why he hates Mario.
- Because the series is a parody, Gonzo is too comedic to be NPE.
Trivia[]
- He along with Constantine and Wilkins are the only Muppets to be Inconsistently Heinous, although this Gonzo originates from a fan work.
- He's also the first (and currently only) version of Gonzo (so far) to be Inconsistently Heinous.
