Inconsistently Heinous Wiki

Gibeon is the overarching antagonist of the anime series Pokémon Horizons.

He is the former boss of the Explorers organization and the chairman of the Exceed corporation before being succeeded by Spinel after his passing. Through the use of the mineral Laquium, he has prolonged his lifespan for over one hundred years and dreams of using Laquium for the betterment of the world at large.

He was voiced by David Kaye in the English version, and is voiced by Show Hayami in the Japanese version.

His Evil Ranking[]

What Makes Him Heinous?[]

  • He ordered his Zygarde to force more Laquium to grow, despite Lucius warned him that too much Laquium is destructive for the environment. As a result, Laquium mist was unleashed as a result, causing the Pokémon exposed by it to lose their mind and start their rampage, and the plants exposed by it to quickly rot. Despite the effect of Laquium mist and Lucius's warning that Laquium mist would threat the whole world, he still refused to stop.
    • His actions resulted in Lucius being accidentally entrapped by the barrier created by Rystal's Terapagos to seal Laquium and Rystal being forced to leave Laqua alone. After the incident, the child of Lucius and Rystal was born, and Rystal had to raise the child alone.
  • After surviving the incident, he led a new Explorers, and founded a company named Exceed for scientific research, specifically on Laquium. He would attempt to remove the barrier created by Rystal's Terapagos and harvest the Laquium, and recruit persons to achieve his goal.
    • He guided Hamber, an formerly aimless adventurer, and recruited him into Explorers.
    • He attempted to recruit Diana, Hamber's friend, an adventurer, and Lucius' granddaughter, into Explorers but failed.
    • He found that Spinel had the talent in researching on Laquium, and entrusted him and provided him resources, therefore enabling Spinel's heinous actions.
  • He ordered members of his new Explorers to take Liko's pendant, which is later revealed to be Rystal's Terapagos, from Liko, and catch Lucius' Black Rayquaza against Black Rayquaza's will. He should be responsible for the heinous actions committed by these members of Explorers because he is the one who ordered them to do heinous actions, even if some of them may take pleasure from committing such actions.
  • After unsuccessful attempts, Gibeon decided to let Liko and her allies find all Six Heroes, and therefore allow Rystal's Terapagos, who became Liko's Terapagos, to recover its strength and remove the barrier that seals Laquium. After the barrier that seals Laquium was removed, Gibeon led most of members of Explorers to attack members of the Rising Volt Tacklers, and start harvest Laquium, causing Laquium mist to be unleashed again.
  • Since Pokémon Horizons is an independent continuity, he and other Pokémon Horizons characters who do heinous actions do not need to compete with characters who are from previous Pokémon anime series, notably the series where Ash Ketchum is the main protagonist.

What Makes Him Inconsistent?[]

  • He is a well-intentioned extremist. He believed that Laquium would benefit humans and Pokémon.
  • He genuinely cares for his grandson Amethio. Before being convinced by Lucius, he wanted to make Amethio inherit his dream. Despite he did banish him from the Explorers, it is because Spinel presented the video of Amethio helping Liko, Lucius' great-great-granddaughter, escape, therefore manipulating Gibeon into believing that Amethio betrayed him and was the traitor. After being convinced by Lucius, he started to respect Amethio's dream.
  • After being convinced by Lucius, he felt remorse for his actions and accepted to purify Laquium, knowing that the purification of Laquium would lead to his death.
  • His defeat is played for sympathy. After an intense battle, his Zygarde left him, and he had a breakdown, feeling that he was betrayed again. His breakdown has resulted in different reactions from people presented in the battlefield, and Lucius convinced him to trust the future and not to hate.
  • He possibly has insecurity issue. While he is delusional, his feeling that he has been betrayed is not incorrect from his perspective since he believed that his Zygarde betrayed him, his two travel companions (Lucius and Rystal) betrayed him, and his grandson betrayed him. The insecurity issue has led to his several breakdown, and has been exploited by Spinel.
