“ | It is known by many names. My people called it Galactus, the devourer of worlds. It must feed on energy to survive, both thermal and organic. | „ |
~ The Silver Surfer tells of Galactus. |
Galactus, also known as Gah Lak Tus, is the overarching antagonist of the 2007 superhero film Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer, the second and final installment in Tim Story's Fantastic Four film series.
He is a massive eldritch entity that feeds on worlds.
His Evil Ranking[]
What Makes Him Heinous?[]
- While his origin is not clear, Galactus is shown to be extremely selfish and ruthless, feeding on numerous planets, star systems and even galaxies, almost certainly killing from tens to hundreds of billions at least. Upon reaching Norrin Radd's homeworld, he makes a deal with him that he will spare his planet in exchange for servitude. Norrin is granted powers and becomes known as Silver Surfer, and Silver Surfer would become his slave, who would go on to help Galactus. He lacks any of his mainstream version's redeeming qualities and intends to keep committing mass murder for as long as he can possibly get away with it. Furthermore, the story never once implies that Galactus lacks moral agency or doesn't comprehend right and wrong.
- When Galactus arrives on Earth he attempts to consume it.
- Although he does not consume the other worlds, it's not out of moral standards because Jupiter and Saturn are bigger than he is, and the other seven worlds lack the organic energy he feeds on due to having no known lifeforms on them.
- When the Silver Surfer turns against Galactus, Galactus tries to murder him for it without any preamble at all.
- He doesn't care about the Silver Surfer since he never bothered to question his betrayal and just immediately started attacking him instead. And while he honored his deal with him to leave his homeworld alone, it was only out of pragmatism. As stated prior, Galactus only ever thinks about himself.
What Makes Him Inconsistent?[]
- He has little to no characterization, given that Galactus has no dialogue and only appears on-screen during the film's climax.
- Galactus is genuinely sympathetic because the Silver Surfer reveals that much like his iconic graphic novel counterpart, he must feed on massive levels of thermal and organic energy to survive, meaning he only eats planets so he can stay alive. This makes him a Villain By Proxy because he cannot help that he is so big and is in need of meaty sustenance like any other non-herbivorous organism is.
Trivia[]
- He is one of the two versions of Galactus to be Inconsistently Heinous, along with his original comic book incarnation.
