It's my character! I'm the Trash Man! I come out, I throw trash all over the- all over the ring! And then I start eatin' garbage! And then I pick up the trash can, and I bash the guy on the head!
~ Frank Reynolds most famous quote

Franklin “Frank” Reynolds is one of the five main protagonists of It's Always Sunny In Philadelphia. He is the legal father of Dennis and Dee Reynolds and the ex-husband of Barbara Reynolds. He is a successful businessman who lives with his roommate Charlie Kelly.

He was portrayed by Danny DeVito.

His Evil Ranking[]

What Makes Him Heinous?[]

  • Owned and operated multiple sweatshops in Vietnam, being responsible for thousands of deaths, even enforcing cannibalism among some of his workers.
  • Somehow stole millions of dollars from his former business partner.
  • Cheated on his wife Barbara with numerous secretaries and prostitutes, including Charlie's mother.
  • He is a xenophobe and misogynistic, as he regularly uses slurs and treats people who are part of racial groups as subhuman and sexually harassed and assaults many of his assistants and employees.
  • He has recklessly driven without the use of vision, resulting in him crashing into Dennis at one point.
  • During Dennis and Dee's childhood Frank would buy them great Christmas presents but gift them to himself, claiming he was trying to teach them the value of hard work.
  • He cancelled Dennis and Dee's health insurance when they were nine and never bothered to tell them about it.
  • After finding out Dennis and Dee are the product of an affair between his wife Barbara and Bruce Matthis he tries to get Mac and Charlie to kill the latter.
  • Alongside Mac and Charlie, he made Dee think she was a famous celebrity by paying people to praise and work for her, even going as far as to fly a plane around Philadelphia for 6 hours while making Dee think she was going to Los Angeles.
  • Pretended to be engaged to Dee as part of a depraved scheme to get money from Bruce. He almost went as far as having sex with her.
  • He set Dee on fire twice while trying to stage her heroically rescuing some cats which also endangered the animals.
  • In one episode he pimps Dennis out, being manipulative and physically abusive to him.
  • He waterboarded Dee in the men's bathroom to get a confession.
  • He manipulates Dee into digging up her dead mother just because she implied that he was losing his mind.
  • He deliberately attempts to instill fear in people after buying a share in a gun store so they will buy guns and doesn't care what havoc it will cause so long as he makes a profit out of it.
  • Along with Dennis and Dee his reaction to learning Bill Ponderosa is suicidal is to take out a life insurance policy on him.
  • In one talk between Dennis and Frank, Dennis states that Frank's poor parenting and irresponsibility are what caused Dennis to become a sociopath. If this is true, it makes Frank indirectly responsible for Dennis’s crimes, and presumably Dee's.

What Makes Him Inconsistent?[]

  • He genuinely cares about Charlie, as shown by how devastated he was when the latter was thought to be dead (not knowing he faked his death) and he's the only one who tries to comfort him when the Waitress turns down his marriage proposal. At times he even acts like a genuine father figure towards him.
  • He has "Pet the Dog" moments with the rest of the gang along with other people such as being sympathetic to Dennis when he talks about how empty he feels inside, arranging for Mac to meet Chase Utey and being the member of the gang most likely to treat Cricket with empathy.
  • He has some honor and standards as he stops a 12 year-old from getting soaked in a wet t-shirt contest after learning her age, disapproves of Dennis and Mac hunting Cricket for sport, considers the idea of Dennis and Dee having sex perverted and states he draws the line at sleeping with anyone younger than his daughter even though they aren't biologically related.
  • He is tragic, as when he was young, he was falsely portrayed as a disabled child, causing him to be sent to a school for disabled children. There, he was constantly abused by the staff for something he didn’t understand, causing him so much trauma, he tried making a new personality called "Frog Kid" to cover it up. Another episode shows that he was betrayed by his brother after an incident, resulting in him losing his first business and feeling that he couldn't trust anyone.
  • Much like the other members of the Gang, Frank is almost always played for laughs and his more serious actions are played for black comedy.
