Fliqpy, sometimes called Evil Flippy and erroneously often called simply Flippy, is the main antagonist of the Happy Tree Friends franchise.
He is the evil DID counterpart of Flippy, who surfaces whenever Flippy is reminded of his war days, triggering his PTSD (Post-traumatic stress disorder) and causing him to sadistically kill everyone around him thinking they are enemies. His most common enemy is Lumpy.
He is voiced by Aubrey Ankrum, who also voiced his good self until 2006 (his good side is now voiced by Kenn Navarro) and Pop. Since Ankrum left the series, Fliqpy’s and Pop’s lines are prerecorded.
His Evil Ranking[]
What Makes Him Heinous?[]
- While Flippy is genuinely tragic for losing his comrades in the war, his evil persona Fliqpy cannot be considered tragic as his past has nothing to do with him killing innocent tree friends around him.
- In "W.A.R Journal", he goes on a vicious rampage against the Tiger Army and kills all of them and their leader, even if they were plotting to take over North America, he did it out of mere sadism and aggression rather than heroism or justice. It can be assumed he killed the rest of the Tiger Army at the end.
- In his debut, "Hide and Seek", he kills a woodpecker with a thrown knife, breaks Toothy's neck, strangles Flaky with a wire and makes a pit trap filled with spikes that Petunia falls into and pretends to save her, only to give her a grenade that blows her up.
- In "This Is Your Knife", he destroys Cuddles' face with a rock and cuts open his torso, stranges Giggles with his guts and throws Flaky in her sleeping bag into a campfire to burn to death.
- In "Flippin' Burgers", he murders Cuddles by stabbing with a straw, Giggles by putting mustard and ketchup through her ears and out her nose, Petunia by brutally slamming (and melting) her face into the kitchen grill and blows up the diner, leading to him killing Pop, Cub and many bystanders.
- In "Out of Sight, Out of Mime", he is shown burying the dead body of a person that he most likely killed.
- In "Class Act", he is one of the few who doesn't seem touched by, and is the only character (except maybe Cro-Marmot) who completely ignores Toothy's singing and doesn't join in with everyone else singing around the fire, instead just continuing to stab a generic character to death.
- In "Keepin' it Reel", he dismembers Mime, pops Petunia's brain, uses Flaky to fatally whack Cuddles and rip her head off, puts Toothy into a movie projector and apparently breaks Lumpy's neck.
- In "Remains to be Seen", he kills over half of the cast at the time in a truck collision, resulting in them becoming zombies due to the toxic waste, putting them in a fate worse than death, And after coming back as an intelligent zombie, he bites off Lumpy's arm, tears zombie Handy in half to use his lower-half as legs and tries to kill Lumpy himself.
- In "Party Animal", he gruesomely kills Toothy with a cake cutter, Cuddles by choking him with balloons and floating him into the fan, Nutty by using the cutter to slicing him up, Mime by blending him in the blender, and Sniffles by trapped him in a barrel with several sharp tools and rolling him down to hill to explode when it hits the tree.
- In "Easy for You to Sleigh", he guts Shifty to death, before wearing his skin to fool Lifty and get him grinded, then he turns his remains into a present. Even if they were stealing from him and indirectly scared Flippy which made him appear, what he did to them was far worse.
- In "Hear Today, Gone Tomorrow", he appears in Flippy's dream chasing him with a helicopter and kills him in it. After a horrified Flippy turns into him in the real-world, he tries to kill Lumpy reenacting what happened in the dream.
- In both parts of "Double Whammy", he commits several different violent murders in the carnival repeatedly, before trying to kill Flippy himself when he tries to cure himself of his split-personality. He also assaulted Mime and forced him to drink alcohol to set him on fire. He also stole Sniffles' arrows as well.
- In "Random Acts of Silence", he kills Sniffles by stabbing him through the eyes with pencils, knocks out Nutty and is implied to purposefully wait for him to wake up so he could grind him to death, and slices Mime's eye with paper before skinning him alive.
- In "A Vicious Cycle", he tries to attack Lumpy and Disco Bear, before getting struck by lightning and killed. This is only for him to possess Cub's tricycle and murder them along with Pop inside of the latter's house (although he debatably spares Cub).
- In "In Over Your Hedge", he successfully kills Lumpy by spinning his head off and uses it to cut his hedges.
- In the "Aggravated Asphalt" game, he kills Cuddles and Sniffles by slicing them apart with his machete.
- Unlike the rest of the cast who only cause deaths accidentally, and his normal counterpart Flippy who is a settling war veteran that is sweet, calm, social, loving, and even heroic at times, Fliqpy is simply a sadistic, violent, psychotic, terroristic, apathetic, and possibly vengeful murderer who never feels any guilt, sympathy, pity or sadness of those he intentionally and brutally murders.
- While Splendid arguably did worse in the terms of destruction or property damage, it's up to note he has more resources as a superhero and his incompetence as a superhero are usually due to factors like ignorance/stupidity, misusing his powers, arrogance, laziness, not understanding the situation properly, etc. rather than outright malice. It's not fair to compare the two here.
- Also, unlike Lumpy (who is sometimes portrayed as malicious and selfish), Lifty and Shifty (who constantly steal out of greed and kleptomania), and arguably even The Ants (who brutally torture Sniffles every episode and get away with it) who at least have Freudian Excuses for intentionally committing their crimes, Fliqpy kills out only out of aggression, sadism, and delusionally believing they are enemy soldiers.
- Although Happy Tree Friends is an exploitation work that disguises itself as a slapstick edutainment cartoon with the twist being the characters die highly graphic deaths, this doesn't make it Shock Value as Flippy and other characters apparently know Fliqpy is evil, and they sometimes even commit heroic deeds of trying to stop him from killing others, especially through the whole of Friday the 13th where Flippy shows his inner struggle and successfully (temporarily) defeats his evil persona. The show has a message of the fragility of life, even if it massively exaggerates it through graphic black comedy, and sometimes the violence is inspired by true events.
- Whenever he dies, it is not played for sympathy, but either comedy, satisfaction, or both.
What Makes Him Inconsistent?[]
- Since Happy Tree Friends is played purely for black comedy, and has zero continuity (where every single character that dies comes back the next episode with no added trauma at all without explanation), he is not taken seriously by default, even if his actions are played more as horror than the general comedy.
- He also has several different comedic moments himself, most notably in "Hear Today, Gone Tomorrow" and "By the Seat of Your Pants", where he is cartoonishly unintentionally outwitted by Lumpy while trying to kill him.
- He has severe moral agency issues, due to his insanity causing him to think of the other tree friends as enemies in the war rather than his friends.
- He follows a soldier code and doesn't harm children or disabled/sick people as he only killed Cub indirectly in "Flippin' Burgers" and it wasn't shown in "A Vicious Cycle" of what happened to Cub after the end of the episode, who was happily riding Fliqpy as a killer tricycle. He also leaves Handy (who has both arms missing), Russell (who is missing an eye, both legs, and an arm) and the Mole (who is blind) alive and doesn't hurt an incapacitated Flaky in "Party Animal" and "Random Acts of Silence" even though he has the perfect opportunity to do so.
- However, he killed Handy, Russell, and presumably the Mole by ramming into them and the other Tree Friends with his truck.
Trivia[]
- He is currently the only Happy Tree Friends character to be Inconsistently Heinous, technically making him the most heinous villain of the series as there's no Near Pure Evils or Pure Evils, with everyone else failing the heinous standards to him.
- In the original version of "Flippin' Burgers", he was going to kill The Mole by hanging him by his skin off a coat hanger, leading to him being skinned alive. If this was kept in the final episode, it would have made Fliqpy worse.
- Only the Fliqpy bad persona counts as IH because his normal counterpart Flippy is actually a good character who suffered the horrors of the war that caused his PTSD and possibly DID, tried to stop him in "Double Whammy Part I" and "Autopsy Turvy (Part II)", and usually gets in good terms with the other characters. The only lethal moment of Flippy was killing Flaky for deflating their escape boat in "Happy Trails Part II".
