Echidna, also known as the Witch of Greed, Echidna of Greed and later primarily as Omega, is a major antagonist in the 2014 Japanese dark fantasy light novel series Re:Zero − Starting Life in Another World, as well as its 2016 anime television series & 2014 manga adaptations of the same name. She is the overarching antagonist of the fourth story arc.
Echidna, at some point, absorbed the Greed Witch Factor, which gave her access to the power of the Authority of Greed. With the Authority of Greed, Echidna joined the Witches of Sin, a group of seven other women and one man who each possessed a Witch Factor. The Witch of Greed had incredible wisdom and an insatiable thirst for knowledge.
Echidna and five of the other witches eventually died and were devoured by Satella, the Witch of Envy, who was the most powerful of the sins. Echidna, who was the last of the Witches to die, lived on by manifesting her soul in a dream-like realm of her creation. In this realm, Echidna could commune with the living who entered her tomb. She also siphoned the souls of the other five devoured witches, allowing them to also manifest in her realm.
Echidna is voiced by Maaya Sakamoto in the Japanese version of the anime adaptation and by Anairis Quiñones in the English version.

What Makes Her Heinous?[]
- She is literally the textbook example of a sociopath in Re: Zero as Subaru pointed out due to her being incapable of understanding the feeling of others thus and the fact she is black-hearted.
- It was stated she has collected all the witch's souls who have died by Satella and brought them to her realm before dying.
- Although she does love Subaru, it is clear that it was merely just an obsession for his return by death rather than genuine care.
- She attempted to achieve immortality by experimenting on Ryuzu Meyer
- She is the one responsible for Beatrice staying in the library refusing to leave for so many years just to wait for "that person" to come and kill her until Subaru saves her.
- She is the one responsible for creating a barrier to the sanctuary due to the fact that Ryuzu Meyer sacrificed herself for it until now.
- When Emilia entered the trial, she admits that she hates her from the moment she sees Emilia mocking her and admits in front of her that she is disgusted at her when she finished the trials out of jealousy.
- Despite Re:Zero's high standard, Echidna still stands out with lower resources than them. While there are other villains who did worse than her, they all have very high resources and it is not fair to compare her to them due to the fact she's just a witch with nothing on her but accumulating knowledge. Not to mention soul collecting is pretty unique in Re: Zero as well.
What Makes Her Inconsistent?[]
- The main reason she can't qualify as NPE or PE is the fact she is clearly a grey-zoned anti-villain. The only reason why she created the sanctuary was so it could support the barrier for both humans and demi-humans to be saved from threats.
- She truly cares for Roswaal Mathers as she saves him from his sickness and even taught him magic for years. What's more is that she saves Roswaal from Hector who was nearly dying and furthers her plans.
