One year. I gave you one year to make your peace with your God. And what do you do? Celebrate the day you killed my wife! One year I gave you while I assembled my armies, and now... I bring your death. You had your chance...
~ Dracula right before slaughtering the people of Wallachia.
Kill everything you see. Kill them all. And once Targoviste has been made into a graveyard for my love, go forth into the country. Go now. Go to all the cities of Wallachia: Arges! Severin! Gresit! Chilia! Enisara! Go now and kill. Kill for my love! Kill for the only true love I ever knew. Kill for the endless lifetime of hate before me.
~ Dracula to his night creatures, ordering the genocide of the human race.

Count Vlad Dracula Tepes is the main antagonist of the Netflix animated dark-fantasy series, Castlevania, based on the video game franchise of the same name.

He is the king of the vampire race and is regarded as the strongest of his kind. After losing his beloved wife, Lisa, Dracula planed a genocidal crusade on all of humanity, as he had lost all faith in them for what they had done, slaughtering countless innocent people across the country. He is also the father of Alucard and the arch-enemy of the Belmont family.

He was voiced by Graham McTavish in English and by Naoya Uchida in the Japanese dub.

His Evil Ranking[]

What Makes Him Heinous?[]

  • In the past, he slaughtered countless people who dared to oppose him, wiping out entire villages and impaling people outside of his castle.
    • In one instance, he set fire to a village and massacred a cabal of local merchants who had “offended” him before impaling them outside the ruins of the village for their families and friends to find, with survivors shown to be traumatized by the act. He’s shown to have taken sadistic pleasure in carrying out the act.
  • According to his son Alucard, Dracula had a hobby of ripping the skin of his most hated foes and use them as covers for his books.
  • Almost immediately after learning of his wife's death, he intends to wipe out all of humanity as an act of revenge, giving the people of Wallachina one year to flee or he would wipe them all out despite the fact that only a few people actually orchestrated her execution.
  • After his son tries to talk him out of his genocidal goals, Dracula attacks him in a fit of blind rage, scarring him across the chest.
  • He wipes out Targoviste one year after his wife was killed, slaughtering people who weren't even involved in the death of his wife, including the children.
  • He orders his monsters to wipe out every single town in Romania, intending to slaughter the entire country for his revenge.
  • If Dracula succeeded in wiping out the human race, it is made clear that this would have lead to the vampire race starving and dying out as they would have nothing left to feed on. Dracula is completely aware of this, yet due to his depressive state, he doesn't care one bit.
  • He would try to slaughter the entire town of Braila, sending his armies into the city before they were slaughtered by Carmilla's soldiers.
  • He tries to kill Trevor, Sypha, and Alucard after killing the other vampires.
  • Even after his death, Dracula's influence has affected the world for the worst with multiple monsters running around and being indirectly responsible for Carmilla's motivations and Prior Sala going insane and wiping out an entire town with the Visitor.

What Makes Him Inconsistent?[]

  • He is far too tragic to be NPE, as his wife was burnt alive after being suspected for witchcraft when he was away travelling the world, with his home burnt down afterward. With nothing left to convince Dracula that maybe humanity had some good in it, he'd snap and begin his genocidal rampage.
  • No matter how horrible he became, he still loved his wife, Lisa, with his motivation being driven by her death, not to mention he was genuinely happy after they were reunited.
  • When Dracula declares war on humanity, he requests an elderly woman who had payed her respects to Lisa to flee the country before he begins his genocidal crusade, seeing her as one of the last good parts of humanity.
  • He has genuine friendships with his forgemasters, Isaac and Hector, considering them to be his only true friends. He spares them both after declaring war against humanity and has them help him, and he saves Isaac when his castle is attacked.
  • Despite scarring him and nearly killing him, he genuinely loves his son, Alucard, breaking down when he realizes he nearly killed him after being reminded of his childhood.
  • His death is played for sympathy, with Dracula remembering his son as a child after breaking into his room, realizing he nearly killed his own son. Before being stabbed, he tells his son that maybe he really did die a long time ago, realizing the monster he truly had become. As Dracula begins to wither away after being stabbed by his own son, he reaches out to Alucard to presumably embrace him for one last time.
  • After being revived in the series finale with his wife, Dracula ultimately redeems himself, leaving his evil acts behind in the past and planning on living a more peaceful life.
