Nefarious: Today, you will witness the dawning of a new era! For years I plotted in secret suffering endless disappointments. But soon, it will all be worthwhile!
Clank: You will never succeed! Ratchet will put an end to your madness!
Nefarious: The only ending in Ratchet's future is the end of his life! (laughs) And you will have a front row seat. (laughs again)
~ Dr. Nefarious in Up Your Arsenal.
What do you expect!? I'm a SUPERVILLAIN! Muhahahahahahaha! Bon voyage... losers!
~ Dr. Nefarious as he escapes with Lawrence in Cronk and Zephyr's ship.
When I'm finished killing you I think I'll rewind time. So I can do it again. And again. And again! (laughs evily)
~ Dr. Nefarious vowing to kill Ratchet and Clank.

Dr. Nefarious is the main antagonist of the Ratchet & Clank franchise, serving as the main antagonist of Ratchet & Clank: Up Your Arsenal and Ratchet & Clank Future: A Crack in Time, the tritagonist of Ratchet & Clank: All 4 One and the secondary antagonist of Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart. He is a robotic mad scientist who hates organic lifeforms despite formerly being one himself. He is the arch-nemesis of Ratchet and Clank.

He was voiced by Armin Shimerman.

His Evil Ranking[]

What Makes Him Heinous?[]

  • He vowed to destroy all biological life. On one occasion, he attempted to wipe out life on Rilgar. On another, he attacked Megalopolis, Kerwan with an army of robots, but was stopped by Qwark both times.
  • While he was bullied by Captain Qwark when he was a teen, it becomes too moot to make him tragic due to his crimes.
  • He kidnapped the Captain and warned him that he would one day invade Megalopolis again after killing him.
  • He created the Biobliterator to transform everyone in Solana Galaxy into robots.
  • He sent an army of tyranoids to attack the planet Veldin.
  • He sent a message to the galaxy where he reveals his twisted plans and later learns through his butler, Lawrence, that a team called Q-Force under the command of Captain Qwark, had stolen a data disk about his Tyrannoid forces on the planet Aquatos.
  • He decides to break his "collaboration" with the Zoni after seeing that they would never reveal the location of Orvus's chamber to him.
  • He watched as Clank woke up and fled from his clutches, ordering his capture.
  • Upon reaching him at the end of sector A, Nefarious half-revealed his plans and ordered him to be rendered unconscious.
  • In A Crack In Time, he draws a plan of reverting the time where only the villains rule.
  • He decided to hire the Valkyries to destroy the Lombax in exchange for the recovery of their destroyed homeworld.
  • While he seems to be insecure to some extent, it is never played for sympathy.
  • He attempts to use the Dimensionator to bring him and Ratchet and Clank to a dimension where he always wins, inadvertently causing the Dimensionator to malfunction and cause several tears in space-time.
  • While he helps defeat Emperor Nefarious, he only did it to get revenge on him.

What Makes Him Inconsistent?[]

  • He is on & off on occasion:
    • He helped the heroes defeat the Loki Master and stop him from destroying the universe, even saving Captain Qwark from being possessed by the latter.
      • While he does shortly move back to his villainous ways, he can be seen looking at a picture of him with the heroes in a reminiscent way, proving it isn't fully pragmatic.
    • As mentioned, he helps defeat Emperor Nefarious. While it wasn't for good intentions, he wasn't shown to be planning to betray the heroes.
  • He is consistently played for laughs too much to be Near Pure Evil such as a running gag where he plays a romantic show whether he had a villainous breakdown and his popstar audition being played instead of the machine activating.
  • He was not aware that Courtney Gears was a lot more twisted and her romantic feelings with him are a facade, and its not known as to how Nefarious reacted when she revealed her true colors.
  • He is genuinely affable to other people, and he mostly cares for his butler Lawrence as he was happy when he noticed he had a child, plus allowed him to have a vacation when he felt like it.
  • He has some standards, as even he draws the line at the Loki Master destroying the entire universe and is disgusted with how vile Emperor Nefarious is, as such Dr. Nefarious is disgusted with Emps’ temper tantrum , demonstrating that the doctor learns from his mistakes and knows he can’t get everything he wants.
    • Speaking of which, the abuse he suffers from Emperor Nefarious is played for sympathy.
  • He was genuinely touched when Qwark apologised for bullying him.

Trivia[]

  • His remake version can't count as Inconsistently Heinous as he is played much more seriously and has no redeeming qualities whatsoever. Thus, the remake version of Nefarious is Pure Evil instead.
  • He is the only main antagonist in a series from the sixth gen Playstation 2 3-D platforming trio (Jak and Daxter, Sly Cooper and Ratchet & Clank) to not be Pure Evil, as Clockwerk and Metal Kor were approved to be.
