Inconsistently Heinous Wiki

Now, watch me trap a spider in a web of my own--a web made of my new-found arms! Your strength is merely that of a spider, but mine is the energy of an atom, born of a nuclear accident! You dared to mock me before! Why aren't you mocking me now? Where are your brave words and taunts now, Spider-Man?!
~ Doctor Octopus confronting Spider-Man in Amazing Spider-Man #3.
Farewell, Peter Parker. Know this, I will carry on in your name. You may be leaving this world, but you are not leaving it to a villain. I swear. I will be Spider-Man. Better yet, with my unparalleled genius-- --and my boundless ambition-- --I'll be a better Spider-Man than you ever were. From this day forth, I shall become... ...The Superior Spider-Man!
~ Superior Spider-Man after swapping minds with Peter Parker

  • Although his actions do not excuse his past, he had a tragic childhood where he had an abusive father and an overprotective mother that sheltered him frequently, and lacked any friends at school.
  • He genuinely loved his mother
  • He genuinely loved his ex-girlfriend Mary and tried to save her from dying of an HIV infection. Upon witnessing her death, he mourned for her and felt bitter. While these two points do not excuse his actions, they were catalysts to his villainy, making him understandable.

  • He was friendly to Betty Brant when she was unknowingly his prisoner, though he latter plotted against Aunt May, who he also took hostage.
  • As the Superior Spider-Man, while he did end up turning back to his villainous ways in the end, he has done good actions, such as saving several officers from supervillains like Boomerang and creating Spider-Bots to help patrol the city better. It was also his choice to give Peter his body back so he could save Anna Maria and stop the Green Goblin.
  • Some comic book issues give him comedic moments, such as him comparing himself to a walrus upon watching a video of himself on his prime.
  • He seems to have gained some level of respect for Peter in recent years and was shown to be horrified when Norman brainwashed him into the Spider-Goblin, questioning what had happened to him.
