Dr. Nousou is a major antagonist in the Elfen Lied series, appearing only in the later manga chapters.
An expert and genius in genetic engineering, he worked at the island facility of Director Kakuzawa, and at his orders, bred over one thousand clones of the most powerful Diclonius, Mariko Kurama. Only four of these were viable. Most were horribly deformed and disfigured and led horrid short lives before being harvested for body parts. The four who met his standards were fitted with control devices and were under this influence devoted to him.

What Makes Him Heinous?[]
In General[]
- Despite the high heinous standards of Elfen Lied, he stands out for his violent gruesome experiments and impact of then on many Diclonius as it would fuel their hatred for humanity. This makes him one of the most heinous villains only behind Lucy, Diclonius DNA Voice and Director Kakuzawa in terms of kill counts.
Elfen Lied[]
- He would create 1108 Diclonius clones of Mariko and out of all of them only 4 came out alive with rest having their spines harvested. What worse since they're sapient as humans which makes it even more heinous especially with them already mistreated badly.
- While off panel they were shown in flashbacks and mentioned by characters preventing it from being fridge-horror.
- Even though the Diclonius are a hostile species, it been shown repeatedly they can do good and mistreatment only made them worse.
- He would brainwash the 4 Diclonius clones of Mariko and while it alone isn't painful the experiments done under it do as noted by Diana when he freed her later as she stated her sisters suffered in pain from the experiments
- In order to prove to Director Kakuzawa the clones are obedient he would stab one to death to show it.
- When retrieving Lucy, he and Agent would invade the Maple Inn with the Diclonius Clones endangering Lucy's friends in their attempt to recapture her and intended to harvest Nana of her spinal column. This would drive Lucy to her breaking point more because of it this would allow Agent to shoot Kouta.
- Even after his demise he would play role in the Diclonius further hatred of humankind due his actions making them more violent towards humans when they broke free of their containment later on.
What Makes Him Inconsistent?[]
- He's too remorseful for Near Pure Evil as he would later soften up to his creations and shown remorse for his actions on them. There he would free Babara from her mind control device and he would've redeemed himself had he not been killed by Barbara as he would've like to take them to a carnival had he survived.
- While his death don't make him a scapegoat, this shown the clear remorse for what he done in his final moments when Barbara was gonna kill him.
- He is a Anti-Villain and Extremist due to only wishing to protect humankind from the Diclonius.
- He is also very affably to others like Agent and the Diclonius clones showing care to them after awhile.
- He is loyal to Director Kakuzawa despite being reluctant in following orders.
Trivia[]
- He, Lucy and the Diclonius DNA Voice are the only official Elfen Lied Inconsistently Heinous as the rest are not inconsistent, fails the heinous standards, or both.
- Out of all of them he is the only one to not appear in the Anime adaption due to it ending before his introduction can be done.
