Why, hello there, Old Sport!
~ Dave's catchphrase to Jack.
Dave: At Freddy's... do you have children inside your robots?
Peter: What?! I- Wh-
Dave: Oh, you do? Well then! YOU'D BETTER LET THEM OUT!
(laughs evilly)'
~ Dave "prank calling" Peter, sadistically taunting him about the kids he's killed and are inside the animatronics.
DaveTrap: Sportsy, failing to snag me in flames when you had the chance was the biggest mistake that you've ever made. This kid's gonna die because of YOUR bad choices, Sportsy. You're gonna know what it feels like to burn, like I did.
Jack: I need you to leave my restaurant, Dave.
DaveTrap: Oh, no, Sportsy! Step any closer, and I'll cut this kid's throat. You know I'll do it.
~ DaveTrap threatening to murder a toddler he's abducted out of petty revenge for Jack trying to kick him out of his restaurant.

William Afton, better known as Dave Miller, is the main antagonist/deuteragonist of the Dayshift at Freddy’s fan-game trilogy, serving as the deuteragonist/main antagonist of Dayshift at Freddy's and Dayshift at Freddy's 2. In Dayshift at Freddy's 3, his good side is the deuteragonist, while his evil side, DaveTrap, is the secondary antagonist.

He is a serial killer who targets kids and comes across the player when he starts working at Freddy Fazbear’s Pizza.

Evil Ranking[]

Debatable Validation[]

  • Due to it being vague as to when exactly Dave's soul split, it's possible that Dave's soul was split sometime before any of the games even began. If that were to be true, then all of the onscreen crimes that Dave committed would be done by his feral side, who has moral agency issues. However, it's unclear when exactly Dave's soul split in two, and it's possible that the actions that Dave did in the first two games were done with an intact soul.

What Makes Him Heinous?[]

  • Before the series began, he and Henry Miller were serial killers who targeted children.
  • After Henry’s death, Dave would travel to dozens of Freddy Fazbender’s locations and kill 5 children at each one.
  • He attempts to convince the protagonist to help him murder children when Fazbender's got dirt on him, and depending on the ending, might actually succeed it.
  • Whether or not the player decides to help Dave, 5 kids will die and Dave merely shoves them in animatronics.
  • At the end of the first game, regardless of choices, Dave will unleash at least one deranged animatronic on either the protagonist or a group of kids.
  • In one of the first game's endings, he frames the player for his crimes and sends him to jail as a result.
  • If he and the player become friends, they will celebrate the killings by partying at Vegas.
  • After the player gets a new job at a different Fazbender’s, Dave will try to do the same thing as in the first game by trying to convince him into killing kids.
  • Kills 5 more kids before they’re brought back by the Puppet.
  • Shares no remorse for his killings, instead having the player try to kill the animatronics the spirits were in.
  • After becoming DaveTrap, he tries to either convince the player to kill more kids with him, or to get revenge on them for abandoning him.
    • If the player accepts the offer he kills an infant along with him. Aditionally he, with Jack, can pin the blame on someone else for their crime, being responsible for an innocent person goint to jail. He can also kill the person who was going fire a lawsuit agaisn't Jack's restaurant if he lets him handle it.
  • In the Good Ending of Dayshift at Freddy's 3, DaveTrap holds a child hostage to spite the player and later tries to kill them by bringing an army of animatronics.

What Makes Him Inconsistent?[]

  • Dave is very comedic despite being a killer, with far too many examples to list.
  • He did like Henry Miller as a friend/father figure and felt hurt and betrayed upon learning of his true nature.
  • Even at his absolute worst, he's completely affably evil to everyone, excluding some rather harsh insults.
  • If the player teams up with him, he becomes incredibly overprotective of them (with it being implied that it's genuine love to some degree), even creating a Nightmare animatronic to kill and/or traumatize Phone Guy for firing them.
  • He has some moments of mischievousness, such as when he throws a Foxy the Pirate robot into the Grand Canyon.
  • Ultimately he's too tragic to be NPE let alone PE. He grew up in an orphanage due to no one wanting a purple-colored child with a way too long neck, had to sing and play songs to earn money while homeless, was manipulated by Henry into joining him in killing kids, and was constantly killed and mutilated by Henry to see how far would Dave go to revive himself, just so he could be together with him.
    • One major body part that Henry had been tampering with was Dave's brain, removing segments of it each month. The process caused Dave's personality to shift drastically, causing his moral agency to be corrupted as well.
    • It's left clear that all William ever wanted was a family that loved for him for who he was, and he wouldn't have become the monster he is today had he been adopted by someone or never found Henry. To further prove this, the only person in his life who he saw as a family and was there for him was someone who, in the end, never really cared about him and constantly tortured and mutilated him for his own gain. William also fully relied on Henry as he was the only one who gave him hope, and the first person who ever taught him how to dream, and he saw him and his time at the diner as the father and childhood he never had and was always out of his reach. To make things worse he had felt remorse for the first children he killed with Henry, and was fooled by him into thinking that all the children would be happy if they were always in The Dinner, as he saw them having fun and thought he was doing them a favor by making it experience it forever.
  • In the Bad Ending of DSAF 3, he has a sympathetic death where Jack, haunted by Henry, brutally kills him by ripping his head off. Prior to this moment Dave had revealed to Jack how he felt remorse about what he did to him, and after being told he murdered Jack's sister he immediately regrets his actions, finally in his last moments he begs Jack to not hurt him while telling him that he loves him, only for him to end up being betrayed and killed by the second person in his entire life who he saw as a friend and family, on top of that his screams and cries for help make this even worse, to the point where his fate can fall into an "Alas Poor Villain".
  • He admits that he felt remorse for his first murders with Henry before getting over it. If he learns that one of the kids he killed was the player character's sister, he expresses immense regret over it.
  • Genuinely thought he was doing his victims a favor by giving them a second, more eternal life in a stronger body, making him somewhat of an extremist.
  • He's disgusted by Freddy Fazbender's and claims that it is a monster that creates more monsters by making people desperate, being implied to hate the fact the company revives old employees by replacing their heads with phones and he is also horrified by Jack's behavior at the end of An Ending, showing that he have moral standards.
  • After cheating death one time too much, his soul split into two halves, both of which have seperate preventions:
    • The good and reasonable side of him redeems himself by helping the player defeat Henry and free the souls of the children, having a sympathetic death where he thanks the player for putting him back together, even becoming a wholly reformed Pure Good.
    • The bad and feral side of him has moral agency issues due to being nothing but Afton's evil, and has a honorable moment where he admits the player's trick to kill him is very clever.
