“ | I am Revan reborn. And before me, you are nothing. | „ |
~ Revan before killing Darth Nyriss, and his most famous quote. |
“ | Savior, conqueror, hero, villain. You are all things, Revan… and yet you are nothing. In the end, you belong to neither the light nor the darkness. You will forever stand alone. | „ |
~ Darth Malak describing him. |
“ | Those who use the dark side are also bound to serve it. To understand this is to understand the underlying philosophy of the Sith. The dark side offers power for power's sake. You must crave it. Covet it. You must seek power above all else, with no reservation or hesitation. The Dark Force will change you. It will transform you. Some fear this change. The teachings of the Jedi are focused on fighting and controlling this transformation. That is why those who serve the light are limited in what they accomplish. | „ |
~ Revan explains his philosophies of the Dark Side. |
Revan, renowned as the Revanchist, dreaded as the Sith Lord Darth Revan, and honored as the Prodigal Knight, is one of the main protagonists of the Star Wars Old Republic era.
He was an eminent Jedi Knight turned Dark Lord of the Sith until, stripped of his true persona, he returned to the crumbling Jedi Order and helped defeat the Sith Empire he had established. A human male, and acknowledged as a very gifted and powerful Force-sensitive pupil, he was trained as a Padawan by Kreia and a number of other Jedi Masters, both on Coruscant and at the Jedi Enclave on Dantooine. He is also the archenemy of Vitiate.
Due to his actions, philosophies, and involvement in major pivotal events and conflicts of the Old Republic era, Revan is arguably one of the most important characters of the entire Star Wars franchise due to his influence in the Old Republic series as well as his posthumous influence on the philosophies of the Sith centuries later.
He was voiced by Rino Romano in Star Wars:Knights of the Old Republic (2003), Jeff Bennett in Star Wars: The Old Republic (2011) and Spencer Garret in the expansion Star Wars: The Old Republic: Shadow of Revan (2014).
His Evil Ranking[]
What Makes Him Heinous?[]
- As the war of the Mandalorians waged on, he continued to sacrifice his morals for victory, drawing closer and closer to the dark side.
- He embraced the dark side willingly, believing that its power was needed for ultimate victory. After studying the teachings of the ancient Sith who came before him,
- According to an official art on the Campaign Guide of Knights of the old republic he force chokes a female imperial sith officer for unknown reasons.
- Later, on the moon of Dxun, a long battle was waged between the Jedi, led by him and fellow companion Meetra Surik. He drew out the conflict and put his soldiers in harm's way, believing that the trials they would endure would make them more susceptible to the dark side and easier to corrupt.
- activated a superweapon that destroyed the surface of the planet along with all the remaining Mandalorians and corrupted the surviving Jedi under his command.
- After the Sith emperor got into their minds, Revan and Malak's willpower was greater than he anticipated, however, and they quickly broke free of his control. He found the star forge and used it to create a massive army of warships to invade the Galactic Republic on their own wishes. And he and Malak planned on conquering the galaxy so that they could unify it to prepare it against Vitiate's armies.
- He and Malak, with a new fleet and millions of fallen Jedi behind them, forced the galaxy into the Jedi Civil War.
- He established a Sith Academy on Korriban to train hopeful recruits, strengthening his army.
- Due to his familiarity with the enemy's tactics and the fact that countless worlds joined his cause without a fight due to his actions in the Mandalorian Wars, the Jedi and the Galactic Republic were immediately taken aback, went on the defensive, and lost battle after battle.
- He additionally orchestrated the assassinations of numerous political figures, including Yusanis of Echani, and planted his own men in their place.
- He also instituted a sect of deadly Sith Assassins that would capture and corrupt Jedi mindlessly to the dark side of the Force.
- After Malak betrayed him, he cut off his jaw in a lightsaber dual.
- An ally strike force freed him, believing he could help the war effort. However, during his time in captivity, his mind became consumed by hatred for his captor, and he plotted revenge.
- Following his release, he went to the Foundry, a space station similar to the Star Forge he had destroyed so many years earlier. he planned on creating an army of war droids that would eliminate trillions of beings with Sith genetic material, believing them all to be abominations. Among the dead would be his tormentor Vitiate. His plan never came to fruition, and the Sith Empire's finest warriors confronted and killed him. However, his will was so strong that, in death, his mind split into two.
- While his light side embraced the Force, a darker side fueled by vengeance against Vitiate overcame death and resurrected his own body from the dead. The dark Revan vowed that he would not die until the Sith Emperor was forever banished from the galaxy.
- Due to his accomplishments, a cult was founded in his honor known as the Order of Revan.
- the returned Revan expanded the cult to galactic power with thousands of followers. A few years later, he revealed himself once more as the group's leader.
- He believed that all distractions must be swept aside so that the galaxy and himself could solely focus on eliminating the Sith Emperor.
- He and his followers tried to create an army of cyborgs fueled by the remains of the Star Forge. However, a joint task force stopped their efforts.
- He attempted to lure the Galactic Republic and Sith Empire fleets above Rishi so that they could destroy each other and allow him to pick off the remaining survivors, thus making his faction the galaxy's sole power.
- His Sith philosophy and teachings would later be adopted by the infamous Darth Bane, who used his dark techniques to destroy the Brotherhood of Darkness and reform the Sith into the Rule of Two, which led to the rise of Palpatine.
- He is somewhat responsible for several people's villainy, including Kreia's journey to the dark side, as his abandoning the Jedi Order is what drove her to the dark side. And him making Darth Malak learn about the dark side and making him his apprentice, but it also falls on Malak as he chose to continue in this path, but overall, it was Revan who introduced him to the idea, but most importantly, he is involved in turning Darth Nihilus to the dark side as he is a victim of Malachor V, which was technically Meetra Surik Bao Dur's fault, but he was in charge of the whole thing.
What Makes Him Inconsistent?[]
- He is incredibly tragic as his mind being brainwashed and not knowing who he is, and another thing to add to the tragedy is that he is imprisoned for 300 years by the Sith Emperor Vitiate and also resorted in his mind to being broken into a two.
- He is an Anti-Villain as By Sith standards He was remarkably pragmatic for a Dark Sider, leaving the conquered planets' infrastructure intact and defying You Have Outlived Your Usefulness. And since he supposedly joined the Dark Side to prepare the Republic against the True Sith, it is implied that the Dark Side was weighing on him, as some of his actions are noticeably more cruel or evil than others, such as slicing off Malak's jaw.
- He is a well-intentioned extremist, as Kreia points out in TSL, despite her opinions being notoriously unreliable. In the first game, if playing on the light side, one could make the reasonable argument that he is still a dangerous extremist, but the brainwashing simply channelled that part of their personality towards more benevolent goals. Then in The Old Republic, this gains more credibility since he was perfectly okay with exterminating the Sith to make sure they did not threaten the Republic anymore.
- He does redeem himself two times and becomes one with the force so he can have peace.
- During the Mandalorian Wars, he personally freed the young Juhani from slavers. Likewise on Lehon, he used diplomacy to learn how to access the Star Forge from the Rakatan Elders and afterwards left them in peace.
- One of the biggest reasons why he is not consistent enough to be NPE is because many of his actions, especially the side quests stories have too much assumption on how accurately he was in making Light Side and Dark Side decisions as Knights of the Old Republic is a game centered around the choices of the player.
Trivia[]
- The Light Side ending is one of the few choices that has confirmation to be canonical for Revan's storyline.
- According to the "Star Wars: The Clone Wars The Complete Season Three" DVD, George Lucas originally intended to feature Darth Revan in the Star Wars: The Clone Wars episode "Ghost of Mortis" before Dave Filoni convinced him of otherwise. Before Lucas changed his mind, the ghosts of Darth Revan and Darth Bane would have appeared in Mortis to advise the Son into taking advantage of his sister the Daughter's death to embrace himself on his pain and resentment to convince him to manipulate Anakin Skywalker to ensure that the Dark Side of the Force prevailed. Had this scene been used, it would have confirmed that Revan eventually relapsed back into the dark side, possibly making him qualify as Pure Evil or Near Pure Evil.
- It's currently unknown if his Canon version will be Inconsistently Heinous or not, as the Disney Canon's Revan has been barely fleshed out, only given mentions in either novels or tie-in material.
