The Dark Star, later known as Dark Bowser (in Japanese: ダークスター, Dāku Sutā), is the overarching antagonist of the 2009 Nintendo video game Mario & Luigi: Bowser's Inside Story and its 2018 remake. It is an ancient artifact of terrible power that was sealed away beneath Toad Town due to causing mass destruction. Fawful wanted to absorb it in order to gain immense dark power, but Bowser ends up attacking him while he does so, which interrupts the process and leaves half the power in Fawful and the other half in the Dark Star. Eventually though, it absorbs Bowser's DNA and transforms into Dark Bowser, the game's final boss. After some chasing around, it eventually absorbs Fawful, gaining it's full powers back and then proceeds to try to consume the world in darkness.
Its Evil Ranking[]
What Makes It Heinous?[]
- Several thousand years in the past, it terrorized Toad Town, with this being the reason it was sealed in the first place.
- While this was offscreen, it still has a clear impact on screen as its effects were vividly shown in Peach’s flashback story.
- It enters Bowser's body and causes him immense pain in order to absorb his DNA.
- It absorbs Fawful in order to become complete again, although Fawful is eventually willing to allow this to happen to save his own spirit and deserved it for all of his crimes from the past to today.
- After regaining full power, it attempts to destroy the world by consuming it in darkness.
What Makes It Inconsistent?[]
- It is an artifact made of evil, and has no personality until it absorbs Bowser's DNA, and even the personality it does show is mostly just it being excited about consuming the world in darkness and telling others to give up. As a result, it has too many massive moral agency issues to be NPE or PE.
