Blah, Blah, Blah...Don't you ever stop your prattling? I don't remember such things. The past is the past. I'm a demon now, that's all that matters. We don't get old. We don't need money to eat. We don't get sick...and we never die. We never lose anything! We never fade. We're eternally young and beautiful. And we're strong! Demons can do whatever we want!
~ Daki's response to Tanjiro after he berates her for her crimes.
You humans are so miserable. No matter how hard you try, this is all you got. How unfortunate...
~ Daki to Tanjiro after he overexerts himself while fighting against her.

Daki (堕姫 Daki) is a major antagonist in the manga/anime series Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba, serving as the secondary antagonist of the Entertainment District arc. She is a member of the Twelve Kizuki, holding the position of Upper Rank Six, which she shared with her brother Gyutaro.

As a human, Daki lived over a century ago during the Edo Period and was a sex worker by the name of Ume (梅 Ume) who lived in the Rashomon Riverbank of Yoshiwara, the lowest class of the Entertainment District, with her brother before they were nearly killed by a vengeful samurai and subsequently turned into demons by Doma.

She is voiced by Miyuki Sawashiro in Japanese and Erica Lindbeck in English.

Her Evil Ranking[]

What Makes Her Heinous?[]

  • When she was 13, she stabbed out the eye of one of her customers, a high-ranking samurai, with her hairpin for mocking her brother.
  • After becoming a demon, she started viciously bullying the other girls that she worked with to the point that many of them committed suicide.
  • As an Upper Rank of the Twelve Kizuki, she devoured hundreds of innocent people in order to gain more power for herself. She also killed and devoured 7 Hashira over the course of her life as a demon.
  • She killed an unnamed brothel manager simply for calling out her malicious behavior and then dropped Omitsu, the manager of the Kyogoku House, to her death when the latter discovered her true nature.
  • She captured Tengen's three wives - Hinatsuru, Makio, and Suma - upon discovering that they were working as spies for an outside party and would've eaten them all had Tengen not arrived in the entertainment district soon enough to save them.
  • She captured numerous courtesans and stored them in her obi sashes to keep them fresh so that she could consume them later.
  • She assaulted a little girl for not cleaning her room fast enough and pulled on her ear so hard that it almost came off.
  • She punched Zenitsu through several walls for standing up to her and only backed off when Omitsu's husband begged her to calm down. After realizing that Zenitsu was a Demon Slayer, she captured him and stored him away in her sashes so that she could eat him later.
  • When Inosuke discovered her hideout, she ordered her sentient obi sash to eat and kill all the women she'd stored away before he could free them all with his swords.
  • She captured Koinatsu, the Oiran of the Tokito House, upon discovering that she was leaving the entertainment district for good the very next day and would've devoured her that night had Tanjiro not managed to rescue her.
  • While fighting against Tanjiro, she annihilated an entire street with her sashes out of pettiness when a man came out of his house and scolded them for making too much noise. Her attack not only sliced off the man's left hand, but also killed scores of innocent people inside the houses that it destroyed.
  • She tried to kill Nezuko on Muzan's orders.
  • After being beheaded by Tengen, she called her brother for help and told that she was being "bullied" by the Demon Slayers.
  • During the battle with the Demon Slayers, she used her sashes to destroy a large portion of the district, pinning down Tanjiro, Inosuke, and Zenitsu, and temporarily taking them all out of the fight. She also watched with sadistic glee as Gyutaro later tormented Tanjiro and broke his fingers.
  • After she and her brother were both beheaded and beaten, she started screaming at him for letting them both die and insulted him by declaring that someone so hideous didn't deserve to be her brother.
  • While she and her brother didn't choose to become a demon, much like her brother, she didn't feel remorse for any of her crimes.
  • Although she does have a few moments of comedy, like her breakdown after Tengen beheads her or getting frustrated upon getting beheaded the second time, they don't detract from her villainy, and arguably only shows how much of a pathetic womanchild she is.

What Makes Her Inconsistent?[]

  • While she committed many heinous crimes during her life as a demon, her backstory is incredibly tragic, as she was born into extreme poverty to an abusive mother who tried to kill her several times when she was a toddler just because of her unusual hair and eye color. She and her brother were also both viewed as nuisances in the entertainment district, and the only reason why anyone cared about her at all was because of her striking beauty. As a result, she spent most of her human life treated as an object instead of an actual person.
    • As she grew older, her beauty allowed her to start training to become an oiran at a prestigious brothel in the entertainment district and enabled her brother to work as her debt collector. In time, they were able to make enough money to afford good food to eat and better clothes to wear. However, just when it looked like life was taking a turn for the better, everything came crashing down when she lashed out at one of her customers, a high-ranking samurai, when he insulted her brother and stabbed one of his eyes out. Unfortunately, her brother was not present at the brothel that day and was working outside, leaving no one at the brothel to protect her. As a result, the samurai swiftly retaliated by burning her alive and bribing her brothel manager into looking the other way. Her brother didn't find out what happened until he returned from work later that night and before he could do anything to help, he was attacked from behind by the same samurai that she'd blinded earlier.
    • After Gyutaro viciously killed the samurai and his sister's former manager with his sickle, he grabbed her charred body and carried her around the district to get her medical aid. However, nobody wanted to help them and they were turned away at every door. After running around the district for several hours, her brother collapsed from exhaustion, leaving them both on the brink of death, and just when it looked like it was the end for both of them, they ran into Doma, who just happened to be strolling through the district at the time and chose to save their lives by turning them into demons.
  • She genuinely cared for her brother, who she trusted more than anyone else, and relied on him for protection when they were humans and even after they became demons. Despite losing her memories of her human life when she turned into a demon, she never lost her familial love for her brother and looked out for him even though she wasn't as strong as him. This was demonstrated when she grew concerned when Tanjiro knocked him over with a headbutt and then tried to help him after realizing that Tanjiro had poisoned him with wisteria.
    • Despite screaming at her brother for his role in their defeat and disowning him for his unsightly appearance, she didn't truly mean any of it and only said all of those things to him out of frustration. She also started shedding tears when he lashed back at her by claiming that she never should've been born and spent her last moments helplessly calling for him to save her from her impending death.
    • While she never appeared to feel any remorse for her crimes, she felt remorse for what she said to her brother before they died. As a result, when they reunited in the afterlife, she tearfully apologized for saying all those things to him and begged for his forgiveness. When Gyutaro tried to leave her behind due to his belief that she was better off without him, she refused to abandon him and reminded him of the promise that he made to her long ago that he'd always be there for her. This led her brother to change his mind and walk into the fires of hell while carrying her on his back, just like he'd always done before when they were humans.
    • She is a villain by proxy, as she was taught by her brother to be selfish and cruel from a young age. She also didn't have a choice when she was offered the chance to become a demon and was forcefully transformed into one by Doma with her brother's consent.
  • Her death is played for sympathy, as the music in the background is very somber and her tragic backstory is revealed in its entirety. Tanjiro and Nezuko also can't help but feel sorry for both Gyutaro and Daki, and Tanjiro even covers Gyutaro's mouth when he starts insulting Daki for her weakness so they can at least die in peace together.
