~ Daki to Tanjiro Kamado. |
Daki, originally known as Ume, is a major antagonist in the action dark fantasy anime/manga series, Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba, serving as the secondary antagonist of the Entertainment/Red Light District Arc and its season two adaptation.
She and her older brother, Gyutaro, are powerful demons that hold the position of Upper Rank 6 of the Twelve Kizuki. While her brother resides inside her, Daki disguises herself as Warabihime, a popular but cruel oiran in Yoshiwara.
She is voiced by Miyuki Sawashiro in Japanese and Erica Lindbeck in English.
Her Evil Ranking[]
What Makes Her Heinous?[]
- When she was young, she poked out the eye of a prominent samurai with her hairpin. While the reason behind it was that the samurai mocked her brother, it does not justify her partially blinding him in the slightest.
- After becoming a demon, she began her reputation of being ruthless towards other brothels, especially when it comes to bullying other girls and prostitutes in the cruelest ways there are to the point they committed suicide as a result.
- While one can argue it's off-screen villainy, there was evidence of the two brothel owners calling her out for these actions as it cost them their businesses and there's been an indication that the little girl she abused could be her progress on enforcing her to make the attempt.
- She and her brother devoured so many people and became so powerful that they eventually became the Upper Rank 6.
- Killed and ate seven Hashira in the past.
- She killed an unnamed brothel owner simply for calling her out.
- She killed Omitsu when the latter found out about her true nature under suspicion and made her death look like she committed suicide to cover her tracks.
- She restrained Tengen's wives, Hinatsuru, Makio, and Suma upon discovering their letters using her Obi sashes. She would torturously restrain Makio while interrogating her.
- She trapped multiple women in her Obi sashes to keep them fresh.
- She forced a little girl to clean up a dirty room and pulled her ear abusively.
- Punched Zenitsu back against a wall powerfully, simply for standing up to her ruthlessness before backing down when Omitsu's husband begged.
- Nearly attempted to kill Koinatsu before trapping her into an Obi sash when Tanjiro intervened.
- She ordered her sentient Obi sash to devour and eat all the trapped women when Inosuke intervened while also ordering his capture to deal with him herself.
- Destroyed half of the Entertainment District out of pettiness when a brothel owner was being "too noisy", killing scores of courtesans and innocent people inside.
- Tries to kill Nezuko to please Muzan dearly.
- When she threw a tantrum about having her head decapitated easily, she calls out to her brother for help while telling him that she was being "bullied".
- Attempts to kill Zenitsu and Inosuke in their fight with her.
- While fighting, she had her sashes back up her brother's fight with Tengen as she assists him with the attempt of murdering Hinatsuru in front of him.
- After the entire district is destroyed by her brother, she would watch from afar as she sadistically enjoys the sight of her brother tormenting Tanjiro.
- After she and her brother were both decapitated, she was willing to disown him, telling him that someone so hideous does not deserve to be her brother.
- Despite the high heinous standards, Daki manages to stand out for her unique crime of enforcing suicide and being less challenging compared to other Upper Ranks due to her brother being the real Upper Rank Six despite her position. And while she did not choose to be a demon, she did not feel remorse for her actions.
What Makes Her Inconsistent?[]
- The reason she can't be a full-on NPE is that she is simply too tragic to qualify. Although it can be argued her actions overwhelm her tragedy, it's still a very strong one since Daki lived poorly as a human given she grew up in extreme poverty and had an abusive mother who tried to kill her brother before she was even born, and later on tried to kill her simply because of her hair and eye colors. She and her brother were viewed as nuisances in the district for being born, and the only reason why anyone ever cared about Daki was because of her beauty and nothing else. Due to being raised by her brother all these years, her ruthless personality was shaped as a result of her beliefs around the district regarding the fact that most prostitutes were viewed as objects. Her older brother taught her ”self-defense”, telling her to always resort to violence if someone insulted or bullied her. Because of this, she grew up learning nothing but violence at a very young age. Additionally, she was unfairly burned by the same samurai whose eye is gouged by her and nearly died at a very young age when no one helped her nor did her brother when he pleaded, which led to her becoming a demon unwillingly by Doma alongside her brother. Plus, she was allowed to go to heaven due to not giving in the choice or consent of ever becoming a demon in the first place. Regardless of what she had done, her tragedy is still played for sympathy till her death.
- Despite her rocky relationship with her brother Gyutaro, she genuinely cares for him when she grew concerned about him being decapitated by Tanjiro and even though they argued about their loss and her disowning him, she didn't mean any of it as she was frustrated and she did seem hurt by her brother's words despite it was all a lie. She was even willing to go to hell with her brother in the afterlife due to his promise.
- Even though she had no remorse for any of her actions, she felt remorse for what she said to her brother in the afterlife and apologized for it.
- She is a villain by proxy, as she had no choice but to turn into a demon due to being very close to death and was forcefully turned into one by Doma from her brother's consent, not hers, which played a role in her becoming evil.
- She is nothing but loyal to Muzan. Part of the reason she kills humans is because Muzan manipulates her into doing so by showering her with compliments.
