NOTE: FOR THE SAKE OF THIS WIKI, THIS PAGE MAINLY ACCEPTED THE VILLAINOUS VERSION OF DAENERYS IN SEASON 8 OF THE TV SERIES. |
“ | I was born at Dragonstone. Not that I can remember it. We fled before Robert's assassins could find us. Robert was your father's best friend, no? I wonder if your father knew his best friend sent assassins to murder a baby girl in her crib. Not that it matters now, of course. I spent my life in foreign lands. So many men have tried to kill me, I don't remember all their names. I have been sold like a broodmare. I've been chained and betrayed, raped and defiled. Do you know what kept me standing through all those years in exile? Faith. Not in any gods. Not in myths and legends. In myself. In Daenerys Targaryen. The world hadn't seen a dragon in centuries until my children were born. The Dothraki hadn't crossed the sea. Any sea. They did for me. I was born to rule the Seven Kingdoms, and I will. | „ |

Her goal is to take back the Iron Throne of the Seven Kingdoms in Westeros as the 'rightful heir' of House Targaryen, from the people that forced her family out decades before.
Initially one of the main heroes, years of trauma, loss, fear, and jealousy caused her to descend into madness and vengeance, tragically becoming a villain during the TV show's final episodes.
She was portrayed by Emilia Clarke in her first villainous role.

Her Evil Ranking
Debated Validations
- While initially her goal is to be a just and benevolent ruler and to free people, it could be argued that by the final episode she has subverted her good intentions and has become a delusional tyrant who still sees herself as good but it's clear that she cares only about satisfying her own ego.
What Makes Her Heinous?
- She crucified many slavers who were chosen at random without trial because previously they had done the same thing to many slave children, although the slavers deserved it and were presented as asshole victims.
- After Barristan Selmy was killed, she executed without trial one Slaver by having him being eaten by her dragons.
- She burned alive Randall and Dickon Tarly (with her dragon) when they refused to kneel before her, Although they chose their fate and they were also war rivals, not to mention she regretted it when she heard that Randyll's son had saved Jorah's life.
- She executed Varys by burning him alive (with her dragon) when he tries to convince Jon that he is the rightful ruler of the Seven Kingdoms.
- She caused mass destruction across King's Landing with her dragon even after they surrendered to her which claims the lives of hundreds of thousands of people and destroyed huge parts of the city. At the same time she gave the Unsullied to slaughter the Lannisters men, even after seeing them put down their swords.
- Even if she is not responsible for all the crimes caused in that war, she still saw how her people behaved and used it later to blame Cersei for using those people against her.
- She executed soldiers who were fighting for Cersei's army after she took over King's Landing.
- In a speech in front of her men, she proclaimed her intentions to conquer and "liberate" the entire world which would have caused even more destruction and death.
- Arrested Tyrion Lannister after he released Jaime from custody and abandons his position as the queen's right hand. She also refused to set him free when Jon asked her.
- Even when Jon Snow tried convince her to review her actions, she refused, which led him to decide to murder her.
What Makes Her Inconsistent?
- Daenerys is anti-villain and started as a true admirable hero, which is seen throughout the series:
- She was upset when she sees the Dothraki pillaging a settlement and she saves a woman from being raped.
- She was help her loyal Dothraki and saved them from the Red Waste and later from ambush of Xaro Xhoan Daxos.
- When she saw how the Slavers treat the Unsullified, she was angry and decided to free them and later starts caring about them. in her travels she succeeds in freeing many slave and Unsullied and gives them a new life.
- She made an alliance with many Cercei's enemies and help them to get justified Revenge on Cersei.
- She helped a lot the north army to defend against the White Walkers. She with her army and her dragons was saved many lives.
- Daenerys is very tragic. She lost her father before she was even born and lost her mother during her birth. She was born into the royal Targaryen family but she lost her birthright when Robert won the war against her family and she and her brother, Viserys, were forced into hiding and a lot of times had to live on the streets. Viserys was also abusive towards her and was taking his own frustrations on his younger sister. She was also sold to the Dothraki and raped by them. During the series, she lost many of her allies and two of her dragons to her enemies. there is no doubt that tragedy has a large part in her downfall to villainy.
- She genuinely cares about several people:
- Khal Drogo: She starts caring about him and even fell in love with him. When he is dying, she even asks a witch that claims that could heal him. When she decides to kill him, she cries over his death and suffocates him to end his suffering. She was also upset after their baby died right after birth.
- Her three dragons: She often referred to them as "children". She also very upset when two of them were killed.
- Jorah Mormont: Many times she listened to him. She was worried from his illness, forgives him that he betrayed her and finally cried over his death.
- Missandei: She was a dear friend and she was angry and depressed when Cersei executed her.
- Barristan Selmy: She listened to him, agreed when he called her father "mad king" and was depressed when he was killed.
- Daario Naharis: She cared about him. He became her lover as she started to sleep with him.
- Jon Snow: The two of them fell in love and she still loved him until the end. She was shocked that he betrayed and murdered her.
- Grey Worm: She thanked him many times for his loyalty. She was sad when he got injured and finally praised him on the victory in the war and promoted him.
- Daenerys has standards and she is disgusted by acts of another characters like slavery, raping or betrayal her enemies and she was forbids her people from behaving like this. She even confesses that her father was evil.
- She is very affable and sometimes listens to her counselors, even against her will. For example, she agreed to trial the harpy at Barristan Selmy's request or keep Jaime alive despite him being the one who killed her father (and also tried to kill her at one point). It is also considered in the show that she fell into villainy after losing her trusted advisors.
- She also shows remorse for her actions, like when she was remorseful about Randall and Dickon Tarly's burning while telling about it to Sam.
- Even when she did heinous things, her motives were very sympathetic and usually she had honor, even to her enemies (like when she warned Varys not to betray her before he did it, leading her to execute him). She also was part of a "deadly game" against Cersei and her other enemies, what is still true in the beginning of King's Landing battle (until the bell rang).
- Her death scene was played for sympathy and is presented as an "Alas, Poor Villain". Jon cried over her body after he is forced to kill her and one of her dragons appears and takes her away and there is sad music in the background.
Trivia
- She is one of two characters (besides Tyrion Lannister) from A Song of Ice and Fire Inconsistently Heinous to be originally a heroic characters.
