Constance Nebbercracker, also known as Monster House is the titular main antagonist of Columbia Pictures' 2006 CGI feature film Monster House.
She is the wife of Horace Nebbercracker who supernaturally interlaced her vengeful spirit the house he had finished constructing in her honor. She is also the archenemy of DJ Walters, Jenny Bennett and Chowder.
She was voiced by Kathleen Turner.
Her Evil Ranking[]
What Makes Her Heinous?[]
- Even before possessing the house, she was willing to attack and possibly try to kill 2 children with a hatchet just for throwing eggs at her and being too close to the house.
- She is stated to have terrorized the neighborhood with her desire for vengeance for the past 45 years by her husband, which is why he had to take harsh measures to keep adults and children safe from her. Examples and impacts of his measures including:
- Harshly chastising people for getting close to his lawn as a warning, which frequently presented him as a rude old man to people.
- Taking away and dismantling a 6-year-old girl's tricycle to prevent her from returning.
- Taking away and tearing up Bones' kite when he was young, which led to his resentment of Nebbercracker. Constance also intentionally caught it herself in her tree limbs out of spite for flying it too close to the house.
- Other items being confiscated from children over time.
- Chasing DJ off his lawn when he attempts to get back Chowder's basketball, leading to him having a heart attack and going to the hospital. DJ, Chowder and Jenny were also all under the impression he had died until he revealed otherwise as a result.
- Although she has one or two comedic moments, they are very faint with her being presented completely seriously in-story.
- Taunts DJ and Chowder with their fear of approaching the house by staining a sinister expression on Chowder's basketball when it lands on the lawn.
- When her husband is being taken away by paramedics, she displays a scratch in her window across DJ's neck, representing her desire to kill him.
- Beckons Bones to approach the entryway with his confiscated kite, intending for him to fall over the edge to his doom in the basement. She's also stated to regularly use this trick on potential victims with confiscated items and/or taunt them with their fear of trying to reclaim it.
- Immediately attacks and tries to kill the oblivious Jenny Bennett when she gets within range.
- Eats and almost kills Kevin the dog in front of the heroes when they realize she is selective with her movements.
- Taunts Chowder again with his stained ball, making it clear in his mind she was beginning her killing spree that night since they realized it was Halloween and meant she would target unsuspecting children.
- Eats and almost kills Officers Landers and Lister.
- Once again tries to eat and kill the 3 heroes.
- Menaces and tries to brutally kill Chowder for insulting her.
- Made clear to her husband she won't relent on her ideas, including her planned killing spree, leading her to turn against him in the process of pulling all her stops trying to destroy the heroes in the most savage and cruel way possible before continuing her plans.
- In addition to fully knowing right from wrong, she has a clear personality to compliment her motives, as she shows enough intelligence to remain inconspicuous to unaware trespassers until she attacks them.
- Her "redemption" is too small to count as she only ends pursuit of her heinous ways, having received spiritual bliss rather than true regret for her actions.
What Makes Her Inconsistent?[]
- She is far too sympathetic to be Near Pure Evil, as back when she was alive, she was frequently abused as an unwilling circus attraction and even got subjected to social abuse, which led to her vengeful nature before possessing the house. In the present, she never gets over her trauma, as her story and the details of it from her husband make even DJ, Jenny and Chowder feel sorry for her.
- Despite her volatile nature and even before her curse, she genuinely loves her husband, and this still holds up after she was cared as shown when she shares a touching last moment with her husband before departing to the afterlife.
