Conker the Squirrel is the main protagonist of the Conker video game series. He is an anthropomorphic squirrel who first appears as a cute, innocent character in the E-rated games Diddy Kong Racing and Conker's Pocket Tales, before being retooled into an unscrupulous and much darker anti-hero in Conker's Bad Fur Day.
He was voiced by Chris Seavor, who also voiced Gruntilda in Banjo-Kazooie.
His Evil Ranking[]
What Makes Him Heinous?[]
- While a traditionally heroic character in previous games, he becomes much darker in Conker's Bad Fur Day, in which he is a greedy, self-centered alcoholic who becomes obsessed with getting rich and doesn't care what he has to do to get money. Many of his ostensibly good deeds are done for selfish reasons, with him frequently asking what's in it for him.
- He becomes more obsessed with getting money rather than finding his way home, and even kills innocents to obtain money.
- He's very perverted, flirting with numerous women despite already being in a relationship, and only agrees to help King Bee the first time because he mentioned a big-breasted babe. He also only fell in love with Berri initially because of her breasts.
- He has no problem brutally murdering his enemies and shows sadistic pleasure in their deaths, and has no problem killing innocents either, to the point that a sizable amount of his kill count consists of innocent people. He also kills some in brutal ways, such as feeding a dung beetle a bomb and causing it to explode, and later kills Marvin the Mouse by feeding him chunks of cheese until he bursts (though some of these characters inexplicably turn up alive at the end, Conker presumably had no way to anticipate this). He also tricks some characters into killing their friends.
- He's often a jerk to the other characters, making fun of them for petty reasons.
- In Chapter 3, he drains an entire river causing all aquatic life to suffocate.
- In Chapter 6, he brutally murders a baby dinosaur who had imprinted on him and thought Conker was his parent by crushing it to bits under a stone press, and sadistically quips "This is gonna be interesting!" when he's about to kill him.
- He drops a bomb into the volcano the Uggas were worshipping, causing them to be incinerated. Though this was done on Don Weaso's orders, Conker shows no problem doing this and also kills a number of other Uggas on his own, showing that he's willing to commit genocide to get what he wants.
- He aids his vampire great-grandfather by luring villagers into his grinding machine so he can feed on their blood.
- He carries out a violent bank robbery on Weaso's orders, hoping he'll become a millionaire.
- His actions get his girlfriend Berri killed since she gets put in danger repeatedly and is ultimately gunned down on Don Weaso's orders, which would never have happened if Conker had just gone home to her in the first place instead of getting sidetracked, which means the game's downer ending is largely his own fault.
- When given the power to control the gameplay, he thoughtlessly neglects to ask for Berri to be brought back to life, resulting in her dying permanently.
What Makes Him Inconsistent?[]
- He's on and off as how good or bad he is varies depending on the game he's in, as he's sometimes an innocent character with no ill will to do bad. Also, he does a number of good deeds without selfish intent, such as:
- He stands up for Franky when he's being bullied and talks him out of suicide, and repairs Franky when he's broken in half and not even demanding a reward.
- He fights against the Tediz and ultimately infiltrates their base and defeats them, while saving his friend Rodent from execution.
- He defeats Professor von Kriplespac and his accomplice Heinrich, foiling their plans for world domination.
- Due to the comedic nature of the game, many of his worst actions are played for dark humor and are never taken seriously, as well having several comical moments, especially considering that he is essentially a slapstick cartoon-style character, such as:
- Having his eye pupils rotate and become a symbol of money when he sees money.
- Getting comically drunk.
- Making an incestual joke with Franky in reference to him being a hillbilly.
- Him commenting on how Gregg the Grim Greaper is short.
- He cares for a number of people, such as his parents, his best friend Rodent, and his girlfriend Berri.
- He's tragic as he's shown to feel very guilty about Berri's death and his fate of being stuck as the king (which he no longer cares about) is played for sympathy.
Trivia[]
- He is one of two Rare characters to be Inconsistently Heinous, along with Gruntilda. Curiously both characters were voiced by Chris Seavor.
- He's also the only hero from a Rare video game (let alone a Nintendo 64 game) to be Inconsistently Heinous.
- He is the only character in the game to be both Inconsistently Heinous and Inconsistently Admirable.
- If the Conker series was never revamped into an adult-oriented series or if he showed remorse for his murders in Conker's Bad Fur Day, Conker would not be Inconsistently Heinous due to having far less corrupting factors and never having crossed the Moral Event Horizon since he was only truly heinous in Bad Fur Day, meaning he would be at the very least Near Pure Good.
- In the intro of Conker's Bad Fur Day, he references A Clockwork Orange (1971) and Alex DeLarge who is Near Pure Evil.
