NOTE: This page covers only the remake version of Chucky as his original incarnation is Pure Evil. Thus, only information about the reboot Chucky should be listed here. |
Chucky is the main antagonist of the 2019 slasher film Child's Play, which is a remake of the 1988 supernatural horror film of the same name and a reboot of the Child's Play franchise.
He was voiced by Mark Hamill, who also voiced the Halloween Wizard in Regular Show and the Joker in Batman: The Killing Joke.
His Evil Ranking[]
What Makes Him Heinous?[]
- Kills Andy Barclay's cat Mickey Rodney for scratching him, showing at what lengths he is willing to go to protect Andy.
- Murders Karen Barclay's unfaithful boyfriend Shane at his own house and cuts his face off to show it to Andy afterwards. While Shane had it coming for being a jerk to Andy, he didn't deserve to be killed nor in such horrendous and brutal way.
- Cuts Gabe the Janitor in half with a table saw by heating up the pipe he was holding onto, a horrifying way to die even if Gabe was a voyeuristic pervert who lusted for Karen.
- Stabs Doreen Norris to death just because she referred to Andy as her "new best friend", showcasing his extreme jealousness.
- Takes over the control of several Buddi dolls and toys at the mall to massacre multiple people through brutal ways, like ripping Wes' neck open with a drone and having some Buddi dolls maul to death some customers, including Detective Willis.
- Captures Karen at the mall and tries to hang her with a forklift.
- Misguidedly attempts to "fix" Andy by trying to cut him open, almost killing him and Detective Mike Norris, who comes to Andy's rescue.
- His actions ultimately tarnish the Kaslan Corporation's reputation for selling a killer toy, forcing them to issue a massive product recall and face several lawsuits, which may result in several people losing their jobs.
- The film's ending implies that he isn't totally dead and may have transferred his consciousness to other Buddi doll, suggesting that he may return and kill much more people in the future.
What Makes Him Inconsistent?[]
- He is, for all his faults and flaws, a Villain by Proxy, as the Kaslan employee Chien tampered with his moral agency by removing his safety controls just to spite the corporation's CEO, causing Chucky to be unable to know the difference between what's right and wrong.
- He genuinely likes Andy Barclay and actually cares for him, wanting to be his best friend even if that means killing those who wrong Andy or potential "competition". While he does try to kill him during the film's climax, he just wanted to "fix him" and didn't know he would kill him in the process. He also feels remorse and sadness for making Andy upset, proving he doesn't like harming Andy's feelings.
Trivia[]
- His original film incarnation Is Pure Evil, because in the original film continuity, Chucky is a deranged serial killer known as Charles Lee Ray who transferred his soul to a Good Guy doll to survive after being mortally wounded by Mike Norris. The original counterpart also lacks the redeeming quality of caring for Andy as he was only interested in possessing Andy's body for his own gain and nothing more and he also possesses a full moral agency, unlike the reboot incarnation due to being a human serial killer who killed people for fun before transferring himself into a good guy doll and lacks any freudian excuse as he only became evil due to his sadistic desires, as shown when his father was killed by the Hackensack killer and decided to kill his mother just to please the Killer.
- While Chucky is currently Inconsistently Heinous, there's the possibility that this may change if a sequel to the Child's Play reboot gets made.
