Hey, Adora.
~ Catra's catchphrase.

Catra is the deuteragonist of the Netflix original series She-Ra and the Princesses of Power, which is a reboot of the 1985 Filmation series She-Ra: Princess of Power.

Catra was Adora's childhood friend and was obsessed with her but couldn't bring herself to share her true feelings for her. She decided to stay with the Horde, even though she knew they were evil, and fight against Adora and the Rebellion. She was abused by Shadow Weaver throughout her childhood which caused her to have deep insecurities. Eventually, she redeems herself, joins the Rebellion and helps them defeat Horde Prime, and finally confesses her true feelings for Adora.

She is voiced by AJ Michalka.

Her Evil Ranking[]

What Makes Her Heinous?[]

In General[]

  • Due to the tragedy and trauma she was holding up, she regularly abuses Scorpia and some of the other Horde soldiers by insulting them, controlling and manipulating them around, acting bullish towards them, taking her anger out on them, sometimes even getting physical and blaming them for her problems either. At one point, she even threatens to send Scorpia to Beast Island. She only does this to vent her frustrations. However, her treatment is what makes them leave the Horde including Scorpia and the Horde Trio.
  • She mocks and disrespects Hordak and even outright lies to him to get what she wants.

Season 1[]

  • At the very beginning, it's revealed that she knows that the Horde is an evil and genocidal regime but she doesn't care, deciding to help them conquer the entire planet, not caring about all the people that will suffer as a result, showing that she enjoys it. This shows clearly that Catra was already a bad person at the very beginning, even after revealing her true nature to Adora.
  • She partook in the attack on the civilian village of Thaymor, uncaring of the innocent civilians who were being endangered or hurt by the Horde.
  • She led an attack on Salineas, and when she found Adora trying to reactivate the kingdom's shield, Catra tried to emotionally manipulate her into rejoining the Horde before beating her up and calling her weak.
  • In the episode "Princess Prom", she and Scorpia infiltrated Princess Prom at the Kingdom of Snow's palace and began to bully and taunt Adora which got the latter imprisoned in Frosta's ice cage after she retaliated. Later, she kidnaps Bow and Glimmer (Adora's new friends) and hands them over to the Horde. As a result, Glimmer is brutally tortured by Shadow Weaver.
    • She also rejects Adora's offer to be rescued and refuses to show her gratitude.
    • Also, after kidnapping Bow and Glimmer, Catra sadistically taunts her before leaving the Kingdom of Snows.
  • When Entrapta is left alone in the Fright Zone, she manipulates her into joining the Horde and eventually betraying the Rebellion.
  • When Adora is hanging from a cliff and begs Catra to help her, Catra decides to leave her former friend to die because this way she wouldn't be forced to live in her shadow any more.
  • Betrayed Shadow Weaver by allowing Entrapta to experiment with First Ones' technology and the Black Garnet, which causes cataclysmic events throughout the entire planet, and presumably many people were endangered.
  • She personally oversees many battles for the Horde in their conquest of the planet and almost succeeds in capturing Bright Moon and ending the Rebellion.

Season 2[]

  • She threw herself and Bow off a cliff to make Glimmer save them and get freed.
  • When Bow tried to gag Catra to stop her from talking due to him being tired of her constant taunting, Catra bit him multiple times.
  • Taunting both Glimmer and Bow by revealing Entrapta's betrayal to the Rebellion, leaving them to be devastated after hearing this.
  • In the episode "White Out", Catra brainwashes Adora and plans to use her as a brainwashed pawn against the Rebellion and force her to kill her former friends. She delights in the thought of Adora killing her friends against her will and even chuckles a little. She also refused to destroy the corrupted disc to keep Adora in control, even if it meant almost facing her death from the Snow Monsters which she didn't care, about until Scorpia managed to destroy the disc.

Season 3[]

  • When she is exiled by Hordak after one of her failures, Catra fights against a local bandit named Tung Lashor and leaves him to die in quicksand.
  • Attacked Glimmer, Shadow Weaver, and Bow despite the fact Shadow Weaver offered her to join them.
  • When Entrapta tries to warn her about the dangers of opening a portal, Catra betrays her by zapping her and commands that she be exiled to Beast Island (this is a death sentence because nobody has returned from Beast Island). She would then lie to Hordak about Entrapta's betrayal and declare her a traitor to the Horde.
  • Even though she is aware that the portal might collapse and destroy the whole world, Catra still decides to activate it as long as she denies a victory from Adora. When she sees that the whole world is being erased, Catra proclaims that she would rather watch the whole world end than let Adora win. The portal would have destroyed not only the planet but reality itself even though Catra was only aware that it would destroy the planet.
    • However, this even makes her indirectly responsible for Queen Angella's sacrifice which caused Glimmer to want to get revenge on the Horde in the fourth season.
  • In the alternate dimension, while fighting Adora, a corrupted Catra sadistically taunts and psychologically torments her by telling her that everything that happened was her fault, asking where her friends are, and calling her the world's worst She-Ra.

Season 4[]

  • In the episode "Flutterina", she kidnaps the population of an entire village to lure Adora and then attempts to electrocute her slowly to death while taunting her about how it was her fault the villagers getting captured was her fault.
  • When Scorpia went to comfort Catra after she failed to win against Adora, she coldly told Scorpia that she was not her friend and that if she didn't keep Emily away from her, Catra would sell her for scrap. It led Scorpia to leave Horde out of sadness for her treatment and join the Rebellion.
  • After Glimmer discovered the Horde's base, Catra activated a bot that would blow up half the Whispering Woods so she could escape.
  • She leaves many of the Horde's fortresses with minimal defense to use for her plan to ruin the friendship of the Best Friends Squad. In the process, she risks the lives of many of her soldiers who are stationed in said fortresses.
  • She and Hordak lead an attack on the kingdom of Salineas to destroy it. Some of the citizens may have even been killed, though it's not confirmed.

What Makes Her Inconsistent?[]

  • She is very tragic for multiple reasons, which affects her mental health and shapes her into what she has become.
    • She was horribly abused by her foster mother, Shadow Weaver, throughout her childhood (both physically and mentally). Shadow Weaver would harm her with her magic, would constantly compare her to Adora to make her feel bad about herself, and, on one occasion, she even threatened she would have killed her if Adora hadn't been so attached to her.
    • She was raised as a child soldier by the Etherian Horde to fight against the Princesses and their Rebellion. This means she didn't have a family, was expected to eat bland food like ration bars, was expected to train relentlessly and learn military tactics, and couldn't even celebrate her birthday.
    • She is not very good at making friends. Her only friend throughout her childhood was Adora and it's heavily implied that the other Cadets bullied her at the Horde.
    • She had to live in Adora's shadow throughout her childhood because Shadow Weaver clearly favored her over Catra and Adora also performed a lot better than Catra which made her resentful and jealous even though she still cared about Adora.
    • When Adora left the Horde to join the Rebellion, Catra felt hurt on a personal level which drives a lot of her actions.
  • She is also played for sympathy on numerous occasions throughout the story:
    • During her time as a Force Captain, she was abused and tortured by Hordak for her failures and at one point was even sent to the Crimson Waste to die.
    • After Shadow Weaver is imprisoned, she starts manipulating Catra to unwittingly help her escape. Then, Shadow Weaver makes her escape and leaves Catra to deal with the consequences she would face. After Catra sees that Shadow Weaver has escaped, she breaks down because she feels betrayed yet again. Hordak then sends her to the Crimson Waste to die for her role in Shadow Weaver's escape.
    • When the Princess Alliance along with Shadow Weaver attacks the Horde fortress, Shadow Weaver starts tormenting her with her magic which further deteriorates her mental state and makes her desperate enough to open Hordak's portal to bring the Galactic Horde to Etheria even though she knows it's unstable and might instead collapse and destroy everything.
    • She is subjected to mind rape and brainwashing by Horde Prime to become part of his cult because she decided to save Glimmer. She is forced to fight against Adora even though Adora is trying to rescue her and then Horde Prime forces her to jump into a chasm and commit suicide. Adora is barely able to save Catra's life by using her powers.
    • Catra suffers from deep insecurities because of her tragic life and feeling unappreciated and because she feels betrayed by multiple people throughout her life which drives her actions and lust for power. This is best displayed in the final episodes of season 3 when Adora and Catra get into the dream reality, Catra's dream is to be loved by Shadow Weaver and respected by the other cadets and not to be a powerful person.
  • She is caring and protective of some people:
    • She has a genuine friendship with Adora. Despite trying to hurt or kill her on multiple occasions throughout the show, deep down Catra still cares about her former friend and her actions are motivated by feeling betrayed. After redeeming herself and restoring her friendship with Adora, Catra confesses her love to Adora in the final episode and the two of them become girlfriends.
    • Even though she is abusive towards Scorpia, it's clear that she cares about her (has a few good moments with her, tries to protect her by making sure that she won't rescue Catra when she is imprisoned, and is emotionally devastated when Scorpia leaves her).
    • She also cares about Entrapta and tries to protect her from Hordak's wrath, even trying to warn her not to enter his lab when Entrapta does this anyway, Catra apologizes for her behavior in front of Hordak because at first, she thinks Entrapta is in danger. She later feels bad about betraying her, zapping her, and sending her to Beast Island, and makes amends with her.
    • She cares to an extent about Shadow Weaver and wants to have a relationship with her even though the latter has abused her. She tries to form a bond with Shadow Weaver while the latter is imprisoned and tries to save her from being sent to Beast Island. When Shadow Weaver betrays her trust and leaves her to join Adora and the Rebellion, Catra is emotionally devastated which causes her to become even more destructive. When Shadow Weaver sacrifices her life for Catra, she starts crying out of sadness.
    • She becomes friends with Double Trouble. When the latter leaves, Catra feels betrayed and breaks down, having now lost everything.
  • She has some moral standards as she is visibly disturbed by Horde Prime's cruelty and ruthlessness, in particular how he abuses and subjects Hordak to mind-rapes despite Catra not liking him very much.
  • During her time at Horde Prime's ship, Catra starts feeling bad about the things she has done. She forms a bond with Glimmer and helps her escape to do one good thing in her life even though she knows that Horde Prime will punish her severely afterwards. Once she is saved by Adora, Glimmer, and Bow, she joins the Rebellion, apologizes to everyone and helps them defeat Horde Prime, thus redeeming herself.
