Sweet Pete: I got cast in the biggest movie in the world, as the boy who wouldn't grow up, Peter Pan. I'd never been so happy in my entire life. Then I got older, and they threw me away like I was nothing.
Chip: This business can be so tough.
Sweet Pete: (scoffs) You said it. I was scared, desperate, and all alone.
~ Sweet Pete telling Chip and Dale his backstory.
Eda: We know what it’s like to feel alone.
King: And abandoned.
Luz: And misunderstood.
~ Luz, Eda and King sympathize Collector with his backstory.
It all began on the day of my birth where my parents failed to show up.
~ Heinz Doofenshmirtz telling Perry his backstories.

Inconsistently Heinous villains who are either heavily played for sympathy, too much to make them Near Pure Evil, or have some factors that make them sympathetic.

They include:

  1. Villains who suffer from genuine tragedies, that serve as Freudian excuse for why they are evil (e.g. Baby-Doll, Davy Jones, Vaas Montenegro, Jason Voorhees, Sweet Pete, Herrscher of the Void, Tai Lung and Luke Castellan).
  2. Villains who show redeeming qualities/mitigating factors and/or having some humanizing moments or simply a kinder side to them that paint them a sympathetic kind of tone (e.g. Henry J. Waternoose III, Bowser, Thanos, Zaheer, Meruem, Dr. Nefario, Eric Cartman and Mr. Krabs).
  3. Villains who have insecurities that are played for sympathy (e.g. Lilly, Plankton, Sunset Shimmer, Cecil Terwilliger, Waluigi, Lord Business and SMG3).
  4. Villains whose either deaths or going through events where they suffer greatly are played sympathetically (e.g. Megatron, Satan (Devilman), Sunset Shimmer, Shou Tucker (2003) and Martin Brenner).
  5. Villains who have a combination of all four mentioned factors (e.g. King Andrias, Darth Vader, Tomura Shigaraki, Count Bleck, Joker (2019), Andrew Detmer, Saul Goodman, Heinz Doofenshmirtz, Rick Sanchez, Walter White, Azula, Cassandra, Kokushibou, Catra, Sweeney Todd, Kratos, The Collector, Ace, Number 6, and Shadow the Hedgehog (Sonic Cinematic Universe)).

NOTE: Not every villain that has a Freudian excuse or is insecure falls under this category, as the story can make them unsympathetic, or eventually invalidate their Freudian excuses (e.g Dark Stanley, Balthazar Bratt, and Joey Drew).
