No. We can both be heroes. We're a team. Just you and me, like we used to be. What happened was an accident. We we're trapped. I made a mistake, alright?! I'm sorry! I'm so fucking sorry, Curly!
~ Jimmy's breakdown as he tearfully apologizes to Curly in his hallucination.
I guess I... I'm afraid.
~ Arthur Morgan telling Sister Calderon that he fears death due to his tuberculosis.
Oh, what have I done? I want another chance! I didn't learn anything! I lost me best fry cook! I don't want this foul money! I want SpongeBob back!
~ Mr. Krabs after selling SpongeBob's soul for 62 cents.
Batman: Do you remember that night? When you told me Lois was pregnant.
Superman: You knew. Even before I said anything.
Batman: That was a good memory.
Superman: From another lifetime.
Batman: ...I miss the people we were then.
Superman: Me too...
~ Superman and Batman's final conversation, deeply regretting his actions and wishing to become the person he once was before.

Although these villains did not (currently) achieve redemption, they deeply regret their past or present actions.

Do not add Redeemed villains into this category as since they have achieved redemption and are forgiven for what they have done, they no longer need to regret their actions any longer. Also, villains who only feel remorse for one or maybe some exceptional crimes they committed but learn nothing from it and continue committing more crimes still count, as that still makes them inconsistent (e.g. Thanos, Henry J. Waternoose III, King Dedede, Eric Cartman, Todd Alquist, Dabi, and El Macho).

This category is also distinct from Remorse Fakers, villains who fake remorse for their crimes. Though these categories are not mutually exclusive as a villain can feel remorse for one action and fake remorse for another.

Their good counterparts have a huge degree of remorse, despite their actions never being evil.

Psychopaths/Sociopaths do not usually apply to this category as most of those villains are incapable of feeling remorse or empathy for others though there are exceptions.
