Jesus watches from the wall, but His face is cold as stone. And if he loves me - as she tells me - why do I feel so all alone?
~ Words of Carrie White (describing both the crucified Jesus statuette in Margaret White's Prayer Closet and her loneliness in her poem/journal).
Everyone isn't bad, Mama! Everything isn't a sin!
~ Carrie White to her mother Margaret in Carrie (1976).

Carrietta Nadine "Carrie" White is the titular main protagonist of Stephen King's first novel of the same name. She is a shy, lonely outcast who's father abandoned her and is frequently abused by her religious mother and her cruel classmates, but soon gets revenge on them when she unleashes her telekinetic powers.

She was portrayed by Sissy Spacek in the 1976 film adaptation, Angela Bettis in the 2002 remake made-for-TV movie, and Chloë Grace Moretz in the 2013 remake film.

Her Evil Ranking[]

What Makes Her Heinous?[]

  • In the book and the film adaptations, she commits mass murder and kills almost everyone at the prom for laughing at her when she got pig blood dumped on her by Chris and Billy.
  • The book shows that she has violent revenge fantasies about murdering her bullies, and as she develops her powers she thinks about using them to hurt people, suggesting her revenge was something she'd dreamed of doing even before the prank.
  • When a five-year old boy taunts her, she angrily imagines him falling off his bike, causing her powers to do just that, and it says that she wanted him to split his head open. While this was an accident she's glad when she realizes she made it happen, and enjoys the sound of him crying.
  • The book implies that she shares some of her mother’s religious extremism, as Chris claims Carrie has said that everyone but herself and Margaret is going to hell, though this may have been in response to being bullied, and she was likely repeating Margaret's beliefs and didn't realize this wasn't an appropriate thing to say.
  • When she gets pig blood poured on her in public and laughed at, she unleashes her telekinesis and murders many students and some staff members, trapping them inside the burning gym and leaving them there to die.
  • She kills the students and staff members in sadistic ways and even laughed when she electrocuted a female student and made her body move like a crazy puppet. She even kills innocent people who weren't laughing at her and were nice to her, such as Mr. Morton, Frieda Jason, and Freddy Holt and showed no remorse for killing them.
  • In the 1976 film she kills Miss Collins, whom she thought was laughing at her, but wasn't as it was only her hallucination.
  • She attacked Miss Desjardin despite her being nice to her, but she didn't kill her.
  • She caused mass destruction to Chamberlain and killed hundreds of people, electrocuting random people in the street while thinking to herself that they should burn, and committed various acts of property damage such as flipping cars, blowing up gas stations, and using the sparks from the wires to set buildings ablaze with gasoline. This ultimately resulted in it becoming a ghost town.
  • Her psychotic behavior traumatized Sue Snell, Miss Desjardin, and the rest of the survivors and it made Sue go to an institution because of Carrie's rampage.
  • She killed Chris Hargensen and Billy Nolan by blowing up their car, although this is justified since they were the culprits behind the prank and they tried to kill her.

What Makes Her Inconsistent?[]

  • She is far too tragic as she is constantly bullied by her peers and abused by her religious mother, Margaret White.
  • She had a friendly relationship with Miss Desjardin, Tommy Ross, and other people who didn't bully her before her rampage. She also cried when she saw Tommy die.
  • She loves her mother, Margaret dearly despite all the abuse she suffered from her and only wanted their relationship to improve better.
  • In the 2013 film, she is willing to spare those who didn't cross her, such as not killing Miss Desjardin who was nice to her, Sue who made up for bullying Carrie and had nothing to do with the prank, and Chris, even though she tried to run her over, showing her heroism and probably redeeming herself in the end. She also saved Sue from her house when it was collapsing when she realized Sue was pregnant with a now-deceased Tommy's baby girl.
  • She showed great remorse for her actions in the 1976 film and the 2002 remake.
