Captain Qwark is the deuteragonist of the Ratchet & Clank franchise, as well as the secondary antagonist of the first game, Ratchet & Clank, and the main antagonist of the second game, Going Commando.

He was voiced by Jim Ward in all games up to Into the Nexus, with Scott Whyte taking the role in Rift Apart.

His Evil Ranking[]

What Makes Him Heinous?[]

  • As revealed during childhood he bullied Dr. Nefarious such as making fun of his big head and using his pants to wipe on the chalkboard thus making him partially responsible for him becoming a villain.
  • Sided with Chairman Drek as the spokesman for his new planet for an endorsement deal, completely apathetic to the death and destruction caused by Drek and the Blarg despite being aware of it as his first conversation with Ratchet proves.
  • Tricks Clank into getting him and Ratchet to fall into a pit, where a Blargian snugglebeast was waiting to brutally kill them. This betrayal causes Ratchet to become a bitter and nasty person bent on revenge for a good chunk of the first game.
  • Tries to kill the two with Drek's starfighter in order to save the endorsement deal that he made with Drek.
  • Sold bogus merchandise like the personal hygienator, which he claimed were Gadgetron products, the personal hygienator itself causing severe irritation in sensitive body areas.
  • Kidnapped Megacorp CEO, Mr. Fizzwidget, and then impersonated him to accomplish his protopet scheme where he will spread trillions of protopets, a ferocious genetic experiment with a ravenous hunger for flesh and blood, all across the Bogon Galaxy. The outcome of these actions was shown onscreen, as protopets attacked and killed some of the civilians, with Clank outright saying at one point that the entire population of a planet would be devoured upon watching the infobot to said planet.
  • While impersonating Mr. Fizzwidget, he tricks Ratchet and Clank into going to a desert planet, crushes their ship, and then ejects them out to be killed by the vicious wildlife.
  • Attempts to get them killed once again by giving them the wrong password to a deep space disposal facility, causing the defenses to attack them in response.
  • Hires Thugs-4-Less to frame and imprison Ratchet and Clank, and betray their former boss, Angela Cross, as well.
  • Tries to frame Ratchet, Clank and Angela Cross for the protopet menace, and takes credit for the Angela's own invention, in order to make himself look like a hero responsible for stopping the protopet rampage.
  • Supposedly had an intimate relationship with Skrunch the Cyclops Monkey's sister and had the nerve to justify it by saying it was mating season, making him guilty of bestiality.
  • As a deranged tribal savage, he sends Ratchet and Clank to a death course, and then tries to kill them after they walk through it.
  • Even though he was determined to stop Nefarious after regaining his lost memories, he most likely only did it either to preserve his public image as a hero or out of pride, handing over most of the dirty job to his teammates.
    • He even took the credit from Ratchet of defeating the Mother Tyhrranoid.
  • The moment that his life was in danger, he abandons the Q-Force to save his skin, apathetic to Dr. Nefarious trying to turn all organic life into robots.
  • Even after his redemption, he still shown signs of cowardice as in Tools of Destruction he becomes a host in Emperor Tachyon's Imperial Fight Festival to save his skin, unintentionally bringing the Dimensinator to Tachyon and in A Crack In Time where he runs out the area for Ratchet to handle the monster alone.
  • He is indirectly responsible for Stuart Zurgo's descent of villainy due to his scandals, endangering several planets.

What Makes Him Inconsistent?[]

  • After being called out by Ratchet and Clank for his cowardice, he then eventually redeems himself at the end of the third game by helping the duo fight against Dr. Nefarious and the biobliterator. He continues to help Ratchet and Clank throughout the series, becoming an important ally to them, even helping them save the universe from the Loki Master.
  • He is constantly played for laughs throughout the series. Even the first two games, where he is portrayed as a serious threat, give him comedic moments that detract from his villainy.
  • He is a tragic figure, being forced to live with monkeys his entire life due to Otto Destruct indirectly getting his parents killed. It is played sympathetically due to Qwark getting emotionally distressed from learning the truth and attempting to switch his intelligence with Otto's as revenge on the latter.
  • When working together with Nefarious, he apologizes for the bullying he put him through when they were kids, which touches Nefarious and the two finally make up after many years.

Trivia[]

  • His movie counterpart cannot qualify as IH due to failing the heinous standard to Dr. Nefarious and Chairman Drek.
