My children, my whole poisoned issue. A lot of them out there right now... killers, fighters, thieves, some more peaceful than others. But they still carry it... the disease. If the Mark wants blood, I'll give it mine.
~ Cain

Cain, otherwise known as the Father of Murder, is the overarching antagonist of Season 9 and one of the two overarching antagonists (alongside The Darkness) of Season 10 of the CW horror series Supernatural.

He was portrayed by Timothy Omundson.

His Evil Ranking[]

What Makes Him Heinous?[]

  • After becoming a Knight of Hell, he began serving Lucifer as the deadliest demon to ever walk the Earth.
  • He created the other Knights of Hell, including Abaddon, who would eventually attempt a demonic invasion of the world to kill billions of humans.
  • When Dean comes to him to get a copy of the Mark, Cain begins killing demons once again, reigniting his desire for murder.
  • Having given into the Mark once again, Cain begins hunting down all of his descendants, and as he is Adam and Eve's first born, Cain estimates that it will include one-tenth of all humanity in order to completely eradicate his bloodline.
  • Despite some of his descendants being more peaceful than others and many being children, Cain is indiscriminate in his massacre, freely admitting that he is committing a genocide.
  • He attempts to kill Dean in order to "save" him from giving into the Mark, but in the process making Cain practically unkillable and allowing him to resume his slaughter.
  • While the heinous standards for Supernatural are extremely high and villains have done worse than Cain, his crusade to kill one tenth of humanity was done without any outside help, whereas apocalyptic villains such as Abaddon or Dick Roman had armies at their disposal, and universal threats such as Lucifer, God, and the Darkness are far more powerful than Cain. Cain is also the one who created the knights of Hell in the first place, making him indirectly responsible for Abaddon's actions.

What Makes Him Inconsistent?[]

  • He is very tragic, having originally been a normal human, until his brother Abel began being corrupted by Lucifer, prompting Cain to beg Lucifer for a chance to save him, which Lucifer accepted under the condition that Cain kill his brother himself and take the Mark of Cain from Lucifer.
  • Disgusted with himself for having killed Abel, Cain turned the First Blade onto himself, resurrecting him as a Knight of Hell, corrupting his soul.
  • He genuinely loved his wife Colette, and was heartbroken when he accidentally killed her while trying to kill Abaddon, and even abandoned killing after her death as it was her dying wish.
  • He is affable towards Dean, being polite to him in their first encounter and giving him the Mark of Cain to kill Abaddon, and later when trying to kill him expressing that he felt it would prevent Dean from having to suffer under the Mark.
  • His slaughter of his descendants appears to be a case of extremely misguided well-intentioned extremism, as Cain genuinely believes that his bloodline is the reason the world is so violent, and that getting rid of it will render the Earth free of killers like him.
