NOTE: This page is only about the comic book version of Brutus as all other versions of Brutus are not considered Inconsistently Heinous yet, and thus only the comic book version of Brutus's info and crimes should be put here.

But I'll have that baby, even if I had to put all Gaul to the fire...and the SWORD!
~ Brutus declaring that if he can't have the baby all for himself, every Gaul shall die.

Brutus is a major antagonist in the Asterix comic book series. He is the adopted son of Julius Caesar and the adopted older brother of Caesarion.

His Evil Ranking[]

What Makes Him Heinous?[]

  • In Asterix and Son, Brutus is determined to find a baby (who happens to be his adoptive younger brother Caesarion) before Julius Caesar does, so that Asterix couldn't find the baby that he found near his doorstep.
  • He attempts to kidnap Caesarion (an innocent child) numerous times and shows no remorse for his crimes.
  • After failing to capture the child, Brutus vows to put every single Gaul to fire and at the sword if the baby is not recovered. That night, Brutus launches an attack, commanding his legionnaires to fire flaming arrows at the village, setting the entire place on fire and killing several people.
  • When the male Gauls are attacking the legionnaires, Brutus confronts Impedimenta and takes the baby from her, and makes an escape in a rowboat heading to the Pirates ship where Captain Redbeard is waiting.
  • While he seems to be in love with Irina, it's implied that Brutus wanted to marry Irina in order to gain political powers such as being king, showing that Brutus's love for Irina is not genuine as he prefers power over love.

What Makes Him Inconsistent?[]

  • He is too comedic to be Pure Evil or Near Pure Evil, as Asterix isn't taken seriously in general as almost everything is played for laughs. Even his pettiness and dangerous tendencies are played in an over-the-top, peppy and quirky fashion.
  • He is somewhat insecure and his lack of self-confidence is occasionally depicted sympathetically.

Trivia[]

  • Brutus is currently the only Asterix villain to be considered Inconsistently Heinous.
  • Only the comic version of Brutus qualifies as Inconsistently Heinous, as all other versions of Brutus (i.e. the animated, live-action and video game incarnations) are more debatable as they may or may not have the same crimes as the original version of the character.
