“ | Growing up in rural Georgia, you're taught not to waste. It's how I was raised and how I raised my boys. Now, you've got monsters roaming around, that do nothing but eat people! And for what? To continue to rot until they eat some more! We thought we could put that meat to better use. | „ |
~ Brenda explaining her views to Lee's group. |
Brenda St. John is one of the three main antagonists of "Starved for Help", the second episode of the first season of Telltale's The Walking Dead video game series.
Although at first they appeared friendly towards Lee and his band of survivors, they were eventually revealed to be deceptive cannibals, who resorted to murder and cannibalism in an effort to stay alive during the zombie apocalypse.
She was voiced by Jeanie Kelsey.
Her Evil Ranking[]
What Makes Her Heinous?[]
- When the apocalypse broke out, she, along with her sons, became cannibals, trapping people to their dairy farm and butchering them for meat. Some of these people possibly include their farmhands.
- Butchered their victims alive instead of killing them first, so the meat didn't become "tainted", as explained by her son Danny.
- They also used their victims' meat for trading it with the other groups, including Save-Lots Bandits. It is most likely that the groups are not aware of what they are eating, or yet to realize, as Jolene seems to know it, which makes the situation worse.
- Placed around bear traps in the woods to catch anyone. Those bear traps were seen before as David Parker got caught on one and caused his death, and Travis' indirectly.
- After Mark got shot by the bandits, Brenda takes him to her dairy farm while claiming that she will look after him, but it is later revealed that the family drugged Mark, cut his legs off for meat and abandoned him to death in a bathroom, well-hidden behind a bookshelf.
- They serve Mark's legs as dinner to the group, making Duck, Larry, and determinately Clementine eat human meat.
- Imprisons all of the survivors - except Katjaa and Duck who are taken hostage separately- to the meat locker. This later made Larry have a heart attack and murdered by Kenny, which sends Lilly into a spiral -which makes her responsible for her behavior afterwards- and everything else going downhill.
- Takes Katjaa hostage and threatens to kill Lee and her as well.
- If Lee insults or threatens her, Brenda will shoot him to death, which will result in a non-canon game over.
- Had the group couldn't free themselves from the locker, Brenda would choose one to keep alive and use them for meat, and kill rest of them, including Clementine and Duck.
- Although her sons Danny and Andrew are more heinous than her for the formers' additional offenses with less inconsistencies, Brenda still stands out by acting as the mastermind and director of the family's cannibalistic actions.
What Makes Her Inconsistent?[]
- She genuinely cares for her sons and her late husband, showing affection and love for them, missing her husband Terry and is shown to love them.
- Unlike the sadistic Danny and more delusional Andrew, she seems to be more sincere on her way of justifying her actions by saying that she only committed cannibalism in order to live, and did not show any malice from it. However, this is handicapped at a point as she thinks people killed by zombies are just waste, and they could be used in a more useful way under the action of cannibalism, which makes her delusional.
- Also unlike Danny and Andrew, she is shown to be genuinely affable, being nice to Lee’s group and feeling saddened revealing their true nature to them.
- Her final confrontation with Lee and her death scene is played for sympathy, as she feels remorse for her actions and shows hesitation in killing Lee and Katjaa, especially when Lee points out if Terry wanted this or not. Even Lee displays for her death.
Trivia[]
- Brenda is the only villain in the game to have an undead status regardless of player's choice.
