~ Boogey Man's plans for the Hand of Horror. |
Boogey, also known as the Boogey Man, is the overarching antagonist of The Grim Adventures of Billy & Mandy, serving as the main antagonist of the 2007 television movie Billy & Mandy's Big Boogey Adventure and the overarching antagonist of its sequel Billy & Mandy: Wrath of the Spider Queen.
He is the show's version of Bogeyman and the Grim Reaper's arch-rival, having known each other since their high school days. Responsible for Grim's selection as Reaper for breaking up his friendship with Velma Gree the Spider Queen, Boogey Man starts hating Grim when he realizes that kids nowadays aren't scared by him, leading him to plot schemes to steal Grim's job from his and be feared by everyone again.
He was voiced by the late Fred Willard.
His Evil Ranking[]
What Makes Him Heinous?[]
- Back at high school, Boogey Man always picked on Grim for his own amusement, taking every chance to humiliate him, also taunting his friend Velma Green the Spider Queen by calling her names.
- "Wished" good luck for Grim when he gave a Shakespearean performance at the school theather only to hook him up from his underwear at the scenary, making him the laughinstock of all the student body and even William Shakespeare's head.
- Once lied to Grim about offering his protection services from someone who wanted to give him a wedgie (most likely himself) in exchange for his lunch money, leading him to distract Grim when he refused and give him a wedgie, then threatening him with giving him nightmares and taunting Velma when she appeared to defend her friend.
- Taunted Grim and Velma for listing themselves alongside him to compete for the title of Reaper, likely wishing to see the two of them pit themselves against each other and let it affect their friendship.
- Threatened all of the student body to vote for him by saying that he hates everyone and would give all of them nightmares if they didn't vote for him, growling at his own mother for being the only one present who clapped for him, proving himself to be such an ungrateful jerk.
- Tries to rig the election for Reaper on his favour by burning down all of the ballot's votes and stuffing votes with his name into it, taunting Grim over his plans when he finds out and gloating that he will win through his cheat. This causes Grim to lock him inside a sarcophagus and change the votes so Velma wins, but Velma comes to the scene and misinterprets this as Grim cheating to win himself, leading her to break her friendship with him, driving Grim to take the Prototype Scythe and use it to get his revenge on Boogey for making him lose his friend, prompting everyone to vote for him. As such, Boogey is responsible for Velma's fall into villainy and Grim turning into the Grim Reaper.
- Once stole Grim's Scythe apparently.
- Tries to scare a 15 years old teenager at his home at night by possessing his fridge, failing because the teenager is no longer scared by him, which prompts him to visit Grim, who is now friends with Billy and Mandy, to "relive" some old memories together.
- Possesses Billy's television in an attempt to scare him and his friend Irwin.
- Kidnaps Billy and takes him to a thorn forested realm in the Underworld, leaving him at the mercy of a monster who would have possibly hurted or killed him had Billy not found a way to tame it.
- Feigns remorse over mistreating Grim back in school so Grim forgives him and drinks the Boogey Milk he had spiked with hot sauce to prank him, leading Grim to burn himself, get hung from his cloak by the clock and be the laughinstock of his former classmates again when they show up out of nowhere.
- Accepts Grim's and Mandy's offer for a scare-off to see who is scarier, asking for him to surrender his position and powers to him if he loses.
- Disguises himself as a werewolf to scare a bratty kid as he takes a bath in his bathtub, though it fails because the kid wished a dog.
- Assists in Judge Roy's trial for Grim due to the misuse of his powers by serving as the prosecutor, coming up with evidence that makes Grim lose his title, but rather than doing it out of concern for the Grim Reaper not doing his job as he is supposed to do and being irresponsible by sharing his Scythe with others, it's clear that Boogey does it out of spite for Grim as he admits, to the point of even testifying with false arguments himself despite that Mandy points out that a prosecutor isn't allowed to question himself.
- Tells Judge Roy that he will take Grim, Billy, Mandy and Irwin away to be exiled aboard his pirate ship the Boogey Bay, but in reality he takes them to the lava seas and tries to make them walk the plank to their deaths, tricking Billy to walk the plank and then shoot at his feet when Billy realizes how dangerous the situation in spite of his initial stupidity.
- Attempts to navigate to the Isle of Peril so he can retrieve the Hand of Horror to make himself the most scary force in all existence (to the point of being twice as powerful as the Grim Reaper) with the intent to make every nightmare real in the mortal realm, invade the dreams of all children to make them fear him again and making all mortals puke upon hearing his name.
- Although this could dismissed as Fridge Horror, it can't, as a scene of Boogey's plans for the Hand of Horror shows onscreen what he intends to do, scaring tons of children in the process and making them run away from their homes as they are terrorized.
- Expresses some excitement at the possibility of the Cyclopses cooking Grim, Billy, Mandy and Irwin, waiting for the spectable through his magical glass spehere.
- Dispatches Mandroid and Billybot to deliver a cake filled with somniferous to Grim, Billy, Mandy and Irwin, which causes them to all fall asleep and see hallucinations, which Boogey later invades to try to scare them and kidnap Mandy, due to being the most intelligent of the group.
- Offers Mandy to rule the universe together if she joins him, but when she refuses, he tortures her with his mind-breaking powers by making her suffer hideous hallucinations, leaving her in a fate worse than death until she gives up and lets her will be controlled by him.
- Although Mandy is far from a saint, she was doing the right thing at least when refusing to team up with Boogey and has never gone that far even when torturing someone, with Boogey instead assuring that he would make the rest of her life miserable for declining his "friendship".
- Allows Irwin to beat up all of his pirates to rescue Mandy as he and Creeper safely watch from a distance, showing he doesn't care for his men.
- Corners Irwin, Billy, Mandy and Grim when they get ready to escape from the Boogey Bay.
- Calls for the Kraken to come so he can eat his enemies, taking Billy with him and only sparing him as Billy managed to befriend him.
- Accepts Horror the Ancient's offer to make a race for the Hand of Horror, but cheats during it by charging his cannons with cannonballs to sink Grim and his friends or asking Billybot and Mandroid to destroy them.
- Attempts to steal the Hand of Horror from Grim despite lsoing the race by knocking it off from him and trying to use it to give him a big scare that blows Grim up. Though Grim was actually faking it and playing up a scenario, Boogey did think he had "scared to death" his rival.
- Announces his intentions to enslave Billy, Mandy and Irwin before proceeding with his plans to rule over everyone as the "scariest being in the world" with an iron fist.
- Although he ultimately gets hurt a lot after being exposed as someone not scary and develops both amnesia and panphobia that causes him to hide from everything and everyone forever at his home, this doesn't make Boogey a scapegoat, as he deserves all of it for all his actions and his plans to subject the world to unending nightmares just to suit his ego.
- Although other villains do worse, Boogey easily stands out due to the nightmare-inducing tyranny he planned to create (as Mandy warns Judge Roy of before he hires Grim back), his mind-breaking torture being unique and his lots of personal villainy towards Grim.
What Makes Him Inconsistent?[]
- He comes from The Grim Adventures of Billy & Mandy, a black comedy show with negative continuity where nothing is ever taken seriously and is always played for laughs, making him too funny to be PE or NPE.
- He has lots of comedic moments that detract from his villainy, such as:
- Complaining about how kids no longer feel fear for him thanks to cartoons, video games and the tuba, with Grim even mentioning that butterflies are scarier than him.
- Exposing his buttocks as he possesses Billy's TV set.
- Remarking that a girl he dated puked when Creeper mentioned his name.
- Getting distracted by Billy's song "Scary-O".
- Not being respected by Creeper and his fellow pirates.
- Farting after eating a three-gouda cheese omelet.
- Him being pathetically defeated in an over-the-top way, which involves him getting laughed at, ridiculed and beaten up by several things due to realizing he isn't really scary.
- Has some honor, as he states that Billy's bravery impresses him as they sing "Scary-O".
- Has a few Pet the Dog moments that prove he is capable of being nice, like when he hugs the bratty kid he tries to scare at the bathtub due to him wishing a dog, imagining himself childishly playing with the Hand of Horror if he retrieves it first, taking a photo with Grim due to planning to kill him but feeling that he would "miss" him and offering Mandy to be his friend and protector instead so they can rule the universe together.
