| ~ Beldam revealing the ultimate role she played into bringing back the Shadow Queen. |
Beldam is one of the two main antagonists (alongside Sir Grodus) of the 2004 RPG Paper Mario: The Thousand Year Door and its 2024 remake of the same name.
Serving as the leader of the Shadow Sirens, she is first seen as one of the minions of Sir Grodus, usually being sent to stop Mario and company. In actuality however, she's working for the Shadow Queen and the mastermind behind her resurrection.
Her Evil Ranking[]
What Makes Her Heinous?[]
- Prior to the events of the game, she was the one of the Shadow Queen’s lackeys, meaning that was responsible for some of the crimes that she committed.
- She was responsible for starting a rumor about the legend of an ancient treasure that was behind The Thousand-Year Door, encouraging people to search for the Crystal Stars, when in reality she wants them to open the door and release her mistress.
- She is the one that gives Princess Peach the box containing the Magical Map of the Crystal Stars, later telling Grodus that she intends to take the map from Peach and capture her once she is successful in opening the box but is unable to do so due to potential witnesses in the plaza.
- She manipulates Sir Grodus into stealing the Crystal Stars to revive the demon hidden behind The Thousand-Year Door, saying that she would obey any command that he said if he revives her, meaning she basically sends him to his near-death as the Shadow Queen strikes him down when she got annoyed with him.
- This also makes her indirectly responsible for all of his crimes that he does in the game, including him forcing Peach to be possessed by the Shadow Queen.
- Although she calls them "lovelies," she is constantly abusive towards her younger sisters, with Vivian being her usual target, often gaslighting her by saying she is at fault for mistakes and misfortunes she doesn’t even create.
- In the Japanese version of the original, a few European versions of the original, Vivian is a transgender woman and Beldam constantly tells her that she's not their sister and that she's an ugly man.
- Alongside her sisters, she battles Mario and his team and tries to claim one of the Crystal Stars.
- She is given a Superbombomb, a powerful explosive, that she plans to kill Mario with. After she loses the bomb, she once again gaslights Vivian by saying it was given to her and forces her to look for it by herself.
- This ends up being the final nail in the coffin for Vivian, as she then joins sides with Mario for being the only person to treat her with kindness.
- Following Vivian's absence, Beldam halfheartedly replaces her with Doopliss, who she doesn't treat any better.
- Because of her actions, the Shadow Queen is unleashed, who then nearly destroys the whole world.
- Despite the high heinous standard, she stands out for her personal villainy towards Vivian as well as unleashing the Shadow Queen and endangering the whole world, with limited resources.
What Makes Her Inconsistent?[]
- She is very loyal towards her master the Shadow Queen, only working towards her reawakening, cheering up once she sees her return, and becoming upset once Shadow Queen is defeated.
- She redeems herself after the Shadow Queen is defeated, as she promises Goombella that she will never be mean to Vivian again, with Goombella also saying that she doesn't think Beldam is into evil anymore.
- Despite how much she insults both Marilyn and Vivian, especially the latter, she ultimately proves she loves and cares for them both by the end of the story, promising Goombella to treat her better and living a peaceful life with her and Marilyn.
