Beldam: My queen! You have returned to us!
Shadow Queen: Ahh, Beldam... What ages have passed? So... You are the one truly responsible for calling me back, yessss?
Beldam: Yes, my queen... I searched for a pure heart that you might inhabit... And as I did, I spread the rumor of a great treasure... Then I led the fools who had gathered the Crystal Stars here to open the seal...
Shadow Queen: Yesss... You have fulfilled your duties admirably.
Beldam: I am not worthy, my queen...
~ Beldam revealing the ultimate role she played into bringing back the Shadow Queen.

Beldam is one of the two main antagonists (alongside Sir Grodus) of Paper Mario: The Thousand Year Door.

Serving as the leader of the Shadow Sirens, she is first seen as one of the minions of Sir Grodus, usually being sent to stop Mario and company. In actuality however, she's the main lackey of the Shadow Queen and the mastermind behind her resurrection.

Her Evil Ranking[]

What Makes Her Heinous?[]

  • Prior to the events of the game, she was the main lackey of the Shadow Queen, meaning that was possibly responsible for some of the crimes that she committed.
  • She was responsible for starting a rumor about the legend of an ancient treasure that was behind The Thousand-Year Door, encouraging people to search for the Crystal Stars, when in reality she was encouraging them to open the door and release her mistress.
  • She was the one that gave Princess Peach the box that contained the Magical Map of the Crystal Stars, later telling Grodus that she intended to take the map from Peach and capture her once she was successful in opening the box but was unable to do so due to potential witnesses in the plaza.
  • She manipulated Sir Grodus into stealing the Crystal Stars to revive the demon hidden behind The Thousand-Year Door, saying that she would obey any command that he said if he revived her, meaning she basically sent him to his near-death as the Shadow Queen struck him down when she got annoyed with him.
    • This also makes her indirectly responsible for all of his crimes that he does in the game, including him forcing Peach to be possessed by the Shadow Queen.
  • Although she called them "lovelies," she was constantly abusive towards her younger sisters, with Vivian being her usual target, often gaslighting her by saying she was at fault for mistakes and misfortunes she didn't even create.
    • In the Japanese version of the original, a few European versions of the original, and all versions of the remake, Vivian is a transgender female and Beldam constantly told her that she's not their sister and that she's an ugly man.
  • Alongside her sisters, she battled Mario and his team and tried to claim one of the Crystal Stars.
  • She was given a Superbombomb, a powerful explosive, that she planned to use to kill Mario. After she loses the bomb, she once again gaslights Vivian by saying it was given to her and forces her to look for it by herself.
    • This would end up being the final nail in the coffin for Vivian, as she would then join sides with Mario for being the only person to treat her with kindness.
  • Following Vivian's absence, Beldam halfheartedly replaced her with Doopliss, who she doesn't treat any better.
  • Because of her actions, the Shadow Queen was unleashed, who then nearly destroyed the whole world.
  • Despite the high heinous standard, she stands out for her personal villainy towards Vivian as well as unleashing the Shadow Queen and endangering the whole world, with limited resources.

What Makes Her Inconsistent?[]

  • She is very loyal towards her master the Shadow Queen, only working towards her reawakening, cheering up once she saw her return, and becoming upset once Shadow Queen is defeated.
  • She redeemed herself after the Shadow Queen was defeated, as she promised Goombella that she would never be mean to Vivian again, with Goombella also saying that she doesn't think Beldam is into evil anymore.
  • Despite how much she insults both Marilyn and Vivian, especially the latter, she ultimately proved she loves and cares for them both by the end of the story, promising Goombella to treat her better and living a peaceful life with her and Marilyn.
