Balthazar Bratt is the main antagonist of Illumination's 8th full-length animated feature film Despicable Me 3, the fourth installment in the Despicable Me film series.
He is a vengeful supervillain who used to be a child actor for his own titular show in Hollywood before it got cancelled due to him hitting puberty and as such, becoming the character he was on his own show, seeks revenge for the event by causing the whole city to float away into space. Due to his growing threat, the Anti-Villain League dispatches Felonius Gru and Lucy Wilde to capture Bratt.
He was voiced by Trey Parker, creator of the popular mature cartoon show South Park, who also voices Eric Cartman, Mickey Mouse and many other characters in the aforementioned series, and Kim Jong-il in Team America: World Police. While disguised as Lucy, he was voiced by Kristen Wiig.
His Evil Ranking[]
What Makes Him Heinous?[]
- While he was once a nice kid who turned evil because of his TV show getting cancelled when he went through puberty, becoming the character he played on TV, this doesn't make him tragic due to his actions and it makes him come off as immature, with it not being played for sympathy at all, not to mention his crimes going way too far for his Freudian Excuse to hold up anyways.
- He tried to steal the Dumont Diamond, the largest diamond in the world, by using bubblegum to prevent the guards from stopping him, possibly killing the guards via suffocation.
- He blew Gru away with a Sonic Keytar after Gru prevented him from stealing the Dumont Diamond, taking off all of his clothes in the process expect for his underwear.
- He disguised himself as an overweight jewel inspector to retrieve the Dumont Diamond from a museum.
- After he discovered Gru has a twin brother, he immediately decided to try to kill the two.
- He sent toys of him from his 'Evil Bratt' days to attack Gru, Dru and later Lucy.
- He tied up Gru's wife Lucy, stuff her in a closet and disguise himself as her to enact his plans.
- He shot bubblegum at Hollywood and sent them into space, which would have killed thousands of innocents.
- He kidnapped Gru's daughters Margo, Edith and Agnes, as well as Agnes' pet one-horned goat, and forced them to watch his mass murder unfold, before leaving them on the side of a building to die.
- While he keeps his minion Clive around with him and constantly talks to him about his motivations and feelings, it is not clear if this is out of care, as it may just be a memento from his time as a child actor or because he may potentially be useful for his goals.
- He lacks the league of villains and advanced weaponry that Scarlet Overkill has and he isn't the leader of an army like El Macho as he only has a weaponized robot, a weaponized keytar and bubblegum, allowing him to stand out from them.
- While He was shown dancing in the climax of the film with the other inmates with no animosity towards Gru. However, it is too vague to tell and he could just be enjoying the moment
What Makes Him Inconsistent?[]
- Just like every other villain from the Despicable Me franchise, he's not taken seriously at all since his character and mannerisms are a parody of 80's culture, and he has a comedic defeat as Gru defeats him with his own keytar.
Trivia[]
- He, alongside Kim Jong-il, is one of the two Inconsistently Heinous characters voiced by Trey Parker who aren't from South Park. Fittingly enough, they are both considered too comedic to be NPE or even PE.
- Out of all Inconsistently Heinous characters played by Trey Parker, whether from South Park or not, he is the only one to come from a children's media.
- It's believed by some that he was inspired by the Batman: The Animated Series villain Baby-Doll. If this is true, this would be very fitting, as Baby-Doll is likewise Inconsistently Heinous.
- He is an icon of the Proposal Needed template.
- He is the only character that Trey Parker has played that was not written by either himself or Matt Stone.
