Today is a special day, a day of life. Do not force me to make it a day of death. This is your last chance. Leave or die!
~ Avizandum telling Harrow and Viren to leave Xadia, as he did not want to make his son's birth into a day of death.
What is this?!
~ Avizandum's last words, noting that the spear Harrow stabbed him with was turning him into stone.

Avizandum is a major character in the Netflix TV Show The Dragon Prince. He was the former king of the dragons and the Archdragon of the Sky, as well as the father of Azymondias and the Zubeia's mate. He was murdered by King Harrow and Viren for murdering the former's wife, Queen Sarai.

He was voiced by Chris Metzen.

His Evil Ranking[]

What Makes Him Heinous?[]

  • For hundreds of years, Avizandum would murder any human he found in Xadia's border, showing no reluctance or remorse in doing so. This makes his kill count be on the thousands given how many humans he killed over the centuries.
    • While he did this to protect Xadia and the Border, it was revealed that Avizandum also enjoyed talking about his victories against humans, and the reason why there were still remains of human armies in the border was because he wanted to keep them as a reminder of his triumphs over humans.
  • When Harrow and his allies went to the border to retrieve the heart of a magma titan, Avizandum appeared and tried to kill them.
  • He killed the Queens of Duren, Annika and Neha. This would cause their daughter Aanya to become a queen at a young age, and their deaths have a great impact on her as well.
  • When Queen Sarai went to save Viren, Avizandum would kill her, even when she was leaving and didn't want to fight him. This would make Harrow get filled with hatred towards him and decide to kill him for the murder of his wife. Ezran would also live his life without knowing his mother, as he was an infant when she died.
  • When confronted by Harrow and Viren, while he told them to leave because he didn't want to taint his son's birth with death, he still felt no remorse for murdering the former's wife.
  • According to the role-playing game Tales of Xadia, he was letting Whirlpool dragons and Moonshadow assassins cross the border to kill humans, even without a valid reason.
  • Despite the high heinous standards of the Dragon Prince, Avizandum still stands out because of just how personal he is to Harrow, Callum, Ezran, Amaya, and Aanya, even more than Viren himself, as well as for his significantly high kill count.

What Makes Him Inconsistent?[]

  • He loves his mate Zubeia and his son Azymondias, protecting the Storm Spire while Azymondias was hatching and leaving Xadia's border to do it. When he is about to die, Avizandum tried to go back to the Storm Spire to protect Azymondias, crying in his final moments over being unable to do so. His love for Zubeia and Azymondias is what makes him be able to break free of his brainwashing by Aaravos and motivate him into fighting against the Startouch Elf.
  • He imprisoned Aaravos and made sure he wasn't able to escape from his prison so he wouldn't cause more chaos to the world by using the mirror to watch over him while he was imprisoned.
  • He was loyal to Xadia and its people, as he once brought a storm across half of Xadia to stop a drought in the Far Reaches, and stopped a shadow-eater that was tormenting the southern Moonshadow tribes.
  • He was shown to have standards, as he was disgusted by the blood sacrifices made by the Order of the Blood Moon, to the point that he ordered them to be wiped out.
  • He showed mercy towards Harrow and Viren when he was protecting Azymondias' egg, telling them that he would not make his son's birth a day of death and told them to leave Xadia, even if they refused.
  • He redeems himself by giving his life to stop Aaravos' plans to remake the world, thus preventing his threat for another 7 years.
  • His first death is played for great sympathy, as a sad music plays in the background as he tries to fly to the Storm Spire to see his son one last time, only for him to get turned into stone and shedding a tear in his last moments, realizing he would never see his son being born. His second death is saddening as well, with a melancolic music playing as he gives his life to stop Aaravos, with there being made a memorial for him and the other archdragons after this, with even Ezran lamenting his death and thanking him for allowing him and his friends and family to not give up on their moral compass to stop Aaravos.
