Oversurge! Azure Striker! Burst forth and pulverize my enemies!
~ Asimov, shortly before the final battle of Azure Striker Gunvolt.
Rejoin us, GV. There's a place for Joule there now. With her songs, Firmament, and of course, your immense power...we'll be able to erase Sumeragi and all the non-Adepts from existence[...}Ever since I created QUILL, I anxiously waited for this day to come...It's time for Adepts to come together and rise up in the name of freedom. Come on, GV, Joule. Stand tall together with us in the new free world.
~ Asimov revealing his motives.
But...you will never...be able to...stop Adepts from uprising...with that...kind of power...you will either fight...against them...or alongside them...and sooner or later...you will be caught in the struggle. This is farewell...GV...I leave the...future of Adepts...in your hands...Good luck...
~ Asimov's final warning to GV, and his last words.

Asimov is a supporting character and the hidden main antagonist of Azure Striker Gunvolt. The founder of the Adept freedom-fighting group, QUILL, he manipulates Gunvolt into taking down Sumeragi and reveals at the end of the game that his true goal is not freedom, but domination: he wishes to completely eradicate all non-Adepts from the world to make an ideal world for Adepts alone.

He was voiced by Masashi Yukita in the Japanese versions of all the games, and by Maxwell Powers in the English dub of the OVA, as well as in his appearance in the English version of Azure Striker Gunvolt 3.

His Evil Ranking[]

What Makes Him Heinous?[]

  • In his backstory, he, lashing out for all the mistreatment he suffered, slew all the scientists experimenting on him before escaping from Sumeragi.
  • Took in GV and manipulated him into taking down Sumeragi, an organisation suppressing Adepts, while hiding his true goals from him the whole time.
  • Sent Gunvolt to destroy the Muse, Sumeragi's idol and mascot. Even after Gunvolt learned that Joule, the Muse, was a human - a thirteen year old girl, to be exact - rather than a machine, Asimov shows no empathy and still insists that he kill her.
  • Reveals that his true intentions were to use the chaos from Sumeragi's downfall to take over the organisation and use it so he can unleash his ideal world - one where Adepts reign supreme, and he wants to kill all the humans to do so.
  • In both endings, when Gunvolt refuses to go along with his plan, he kills Joule and attempts to kill Gunvolt (who is fourteen), succeeding in the Bad Ending and only failing in the Good Ending thanks to Joule's Pendant protecting GV. He then attempts to kill him again after GV confronts him.
  • While Nova is more heinous than him due to Project Muse resulting in a potential race-wide Fate Worse Than Death, Asimov has fewer resources, and stands out for his attempted genocide. His actions also led directly to Zonda being able to rise up and enact her plans.

What Makes Him Inconsistent?[]

  • He is too tragic to be NPE or PE, and his backstory helps justify his worldview. He was a part of the torturous Project Gunvolt, just like GV and Nova, and like the former, he was deemed compatible with the Azure Striker Septima, but unlike GV, Asimov's was too strong for him to fully control it. He was thrown aside and treated like a defective experiment, subjected to all sorts of horrible experiments as a lab rat, until one day he snapped and killed all the scientists working on the project, enabling his escape.
  • He is genuinely affable, making a genuine attempt to get Gunvolt to join him, being disappointed in him for refusing, and showing a sincere respect for his strength after losing to him in battle.
  • Despite killing him in the Bad Ending and attempting to twice in the Good Ending, Asimov seems to genuinely care about GV to an extent, as he appears reluctant to kill him, and not only raised him well like a son, but taught him how to use his Septima. His last words to him are even wishing him good luck. He also likes his assistant, Moniqa, despite her being a human.
  • He is a well-intentioned extremist, as he is mainly concerned with earning rights for Adepts, who have been oppressed for a long time in the setting. Supporting this is the fact that he wants Gunvolt to be the one to rule his Adept empire, killing him only when he makes it clear that he won't comply. It is also stated in the drama CDs that he likes Moniqa, a human working for him, because he sees her as the only human who truly cares for Adepts, showing that unlike his iX incarnation, he is genuinely out for the Adepts, not just himself.

Trivia[]

  • Asimov is one of two villains in the Azure Striker Gunvolt series to be Inconsistently Heinous, with the other one being Nova Tsukuyomi.
  • The version of him that appears in Luminous Avenger iX is considered Pure Evil instead, due to having shed or subverted all the redeeming qualities he displayed in the original game.
