In a sense, yes, but my aims extend beyond the boy. He's more of a means to an end. I suppose I never revealed my proper name, so allow me to introduce myself: Ardyn Lucis Caelum.
~ Ardyn Izunia
Am I alive? Does it matter? Perhaps not. Nothing matters - none of it. Not the blessed gods above nor the accursed kings below. To hell with them all! All that matters is I have my revenge. I will spread this scourge across the earth, lure out this "King of Light" and kill him. Then the entire world of Eos will be drenched in the darkness of despair for time eternal.
~ Ardyn Izunia's final line in Episode Ardyn.

Ardyn Izunia (real name: Ardyn Lucis Caelum) is the main antagonist of Final Fantasy XV. He is the ancestor of Noctis Lucis Caelum, who is the chancellor of the Niflheim empire, which was well-known for its magitechnology.

He was voiced by the late Keiji Fujiwara in the Japanese version, and Darin De Paul in the English version. Both his Japanese and English voice actors reprise the role in Dissidia Final Fantasy NT.

His Evil Ranking[]

What Makes Him Heinous?[]

  • Ardyn is responsible for the development of the Niflheim Empire including experimentations on daemons.
  • In Episode Ardyn, Ardyn Izunia joined forces with the Niflheim Empire to attack Crown City. During the attack, he summoned Ifrit to massacre the town. Then, he killed the Royal Guards of the city who were in his way.
  • After battling Regis, he brutally assaulted him to summon his brother. He then had Glauca kill Regis years later.
  • Upon revealing his true nature, Ardyn killed Lunafreya out of his sadism.
  • Tried to kill Ignis, who opposed him while disguising as Gladio.
  • Tricked Noctis into pushing Prompto off the train.
  • Revealed to Prompto that he was a creation by Verstael.
  • Kidnapped Prompto and mocking Noctis, who was on his way to save him.
  • Daemonified both Iedolas Aldercapt and Ravus Nox Fleuret to kill the heroes.
  • Once again, he tricked Noctis into the consumption of the Crystal.
  • Plunged the world into darkness and daemonified it.
  • Was responsible for the events of Episode Aranea with his daemonified machine.

What Makes Him Inconsistent?[]

  • Even if his acts are vile, they are all motivated due to the neglection of his brother and sympathy, as well as the hypocrisy of Bahamut. This would make him tragic.
  • His deaths in both timelines are played for sympathy due to him only wanting peace.
  • He genuinely loved Aera, and even after redemption, he still sought to reunite with her at the end.
  • In Dawn of the Future, he desired to reunite with Aera in his death, helping our heroes to defeat Bahamut in the Beyond, showing that he is redeemed.
