“ I didn't used to care about anything. But it's different now. I think I've committed irredeemable sins...But. If it meant I could return to my father...I'd do it all over again. „
~ Annie admitting her conviction

Annie Leonhart, also known as the Female Titan, is a major antagonist in the Attack on Titan franchise. She is a soldier of the Marleyan military and a member of the Army's Warrior Unit. Initially joining the military of Paradis Island's Walls with Bertolt Hoover and Reiner Braun in 847, as survivors of the Fall of Wall Maria at the hands of the Titans, Annie is eventually revealed to be the Female Titan, who secretly took part in the Titan invasion of 845.

She is voiced by YĆ« Shimamura in the Japanese version of the anime and Lauren Landa in the English version.

Her Evil Ranking[]

What Makes Her Heinous?[]

  • Assisted Marley's imperial and colonial policies invading enemy nations during his early Warrior years, helping to wipe out independent countries and have them annexed into Marley as a nation-continent.
  • Brutally beat and broke the leg of her adoptive father after succeeding in her training, though this is arguably somewhat justified, as it happened in a fit of accumulated rage during a specific day in which he had pushed her too hard, and was the last straw of the abuse she endured.
  • Brutally beats Reiner for telling him to take the blame for the mission failing.
  • Using her screams, she attracted multiple Pure Titans to the Wall outside Shiganshina District, allowing them to break in and kill thousands of innocent residents, including Eren's mother, Carla Yeager.
  • Helps steal Marco Bodt's ODM gear and allowing Reiner to feed him to a Titan when he overhears their secret.
  • Murdered multiple Survey Corps members, one of whom she spun around like a yo-yo while he was still alive.
  • Brutally murdered three Levi Squad members which enraged Eren.
  • Attempts to kill Levi and Mikasa Ackerman, twistinging the former's ankle.
  • Transforms and kills several Survey Corps members when she discovers Armin lead her into a trap.
  • Gets multiple innocent citizens caught in the cross-fire during her battle with Eren at Stohess District.
  • Holds Hitch at knifepoint and threatens to transform so she can escape her imprisonment.

What Makes Her Inconsistent?[]

  • Is incredibly tragic as she was abandoned at birth by her non-Eldian mother and placed in an Eldian internment zone in Liberio, only to be adopted by a man who abused her and raised her to become a child soldier to make his life easier. This led to her nihilistic outlook on life for years, until her father apologized for all he had done for her and begged her to come home.
  • In Lost Girls, Annie as a child is seen feeling sorry and guilty for attacking her father, after she calmed down when her father told her about his leg, although he was not angry at her.
  • Speaking of her father, despite their complex relationship, she became solely motivated to see him again afterwards during her mission. While thinking he was dead, she lost her will to live again.
  • Despite being a spy there, she developed genuine friendships with her comrades in Paradis Island.
    • She risked her life to save Connie Springer from a Titan.
    • She showed happiness that Eren Yeager wanted to learn hand-to-hand combat from her.
    • She had a genuine friendship with Mina and was horrified after she died to a titan.
    • Was genuinely affable towards Hitch and Marlowe during her brief time in the Military Police, and even left a farewell letter for Hitch four years later, thanking her for keeping her company and talking with her during her coma.
    • She developed a crush on Armin later on.
    • She was reluctant to kill Marco Bodt for discovering their identities and only assissted in doing so when she was coerced by Reiner. She was shown to be horrified by his death.
  • She genuinely cares for her fellow Warriors, having grieved for Marcel's death, being upset at Bertolt being posthumously used as a slave accomplice to help Eren with the Rumbling, and being touched when learning that Reiner genuinely cares for her, accepting him as a friend, and hugging him, promising him to care for Gabi and Falco for him and Pieck.
  • During the events of the Rumbling, she redeems herself and shows remorse for the deaths she has caused. She ends up going back to the alliance to save them (thus also humanity by proxy), when Gabi and Falco decide to reach them, despite having no reason to do so.
