Inconsistently Heinous Wiki

Why? Why is it wrong to manipulate humans? Your race is weak. It's forgotten its place in the world—forgotten its benefactors. You exist solely for the amusement of your betters—dragons! So answer me, Corrin! Why am I the one left to suffer? Why am I the one left to die? Why do humans flourish while I am buried here...ignored...forgotten? TELL ME WHY!
~ Anankos

Anankos (Hydra in the Japanese version) is the main antagonist of Nintendo's 2015 tactical role-playing video game Fire Emblem Fates.

He was originally a mage who was regarded as one of the First Dragons, and also king of Valla and husband of Queen Mikoto. However, he descended to madness due to his dragon's blood and caused the Kingdom of Valla to be in ruins, killing most of its people. Ultimately, he is responsible for the events of the game, since he is the one who possessed King Ganon of Nohr in order to completely destroy the entire world. He also used Takumi (during the Conquest route) and Gunter (during the Revelation route) to further his own agendas.

He is also the father of Corrin and Lilith, with the former being his arch-nemesis alongside his niece Azura, as well as the archenemy of both the Nohr and Hoshido royal families.

In the Japanese version, he is voiced by Akio Ōtsuka in his dragon form and Nobunaga Shimazaki (who also voiced Light Turner in the Japanese dub of Death Note) in his human form. In the English version, he is voiced by Travis Willingham in his dragon form and Cam Clarke in his human form.

What Makes Him Inconsistent?[]

  • Anankos is incredibly tragic and sympathetic, as he was once a good dragon in the past, having loved humanity and even willing to give them longevity and knowledge. He even became close to the Kingdom of Valla and even became good friends with Cadros, giving him and a few of Valla's inhabitants the essence of his blood to ultize the power of the Dragon Veins. But as a result of his First Dragon status, he gradually became deranged, and even after his madness was subdued, he lost self-control and set fire to a forest, which prompted the Valla people to blame him and attempt his murder. Unable to accept that the very people he had helped had now betrayed him, Anankos locked himself away in a mountain cave, where he grew to despise humanity. Sadly, he lost self-control and killed Azura's father, an action that severely damaged him and caused him to lose all sanity.
  • His descent to complete insanity causes him to have severe moral agency issues.
  • Despite his villainy, Anankos still has enough care and love for the people he still thinks about, even after going insane.
    • He was a close friend of King Cadros and continues to think of him even as the years go by. When he meets Shigure (Azura's son), he mistakes him for his late friend.
    • While his evil side shows him being abusive, a part of him still loved and cared for his children Lilith and Corrin.
